Yes, I understand that.

Expecting regular people to switch email providers just so I can send them a few XMR to play with defeats the purpose of the service.

The whole point is for it to work with everyone's existing email and phone number. They can receive payments without even knowing about the service.

Yup just like everyone that uses fagbook has privacy.

You have to go the extra mile, that will never change period.

I'm not sure what your point is. Maybe you didn't see upthread where I mentioned the intent was to attract people who aren't otherwise interested in privacy or crypto. It has nothing to do with privacy. It would just be an easy way to send money to friends.

What I'm saying is you are asking for two incomparable things, there is no way for anyone to get anything private in their regular email but that is what you say we need to provide. It just cannot be done. The amount of privacy you have is inversely proportional the the ease of use. Doing what you ask is akin to using a web wallet which is fine if you only send/store small amounts. But for true security and max privacy that setup cannot exist with the mass used email services. That is my point.

My reply's were from this, not from this side discussion, apparently we are in agreement that it cannot be done unless you allow your privacy to become compromised.

That moneypacket thing...
I thought emails go in cleartext... so putting the password in the same email that has the moneypacket attachment would be dangerous.  The sender needs to use a second communications channel to transmit the password.

Moneypacket is interesting, but I agree passwords in clear text is not such a good idea. What I suggested requires control of the email account. If I send 1 XMR to abc123@hotmail.com, the receiver would get an email saying he received a payment, and to log into his account (or create one) with that email verified. Obviously within the system you'd be able to link multiple email accounts or phone numbers that belong to you.

Nobody is moving anything. The comment/link in the OP is out of date. At one time (years ago) this thread was the only place to discuss Monero, and people wanted something more Monero-focused and flexible (for example a platform to implement Monero-based crowdfunding), so that was the focus of the "move". That happened long ago, and at this point, people just discuss Monero all over the place (here, reddit, twitter, monero forum, IRC, slack, telegram, etc., etc.)

Yes, that is what I meant by "move". So, it is not really move, but spreading to other platforms as well. I have no argument against spreading the discussion to other platforms too and I welcome the fact BCT is still among these platforms. Who are the Monero developers in this forum, by the way? We all know, this platform has a kind of spaghetti view, but I want to know what answers are "official" and what are not.

Can Monero use Sztorc's ideas for "smart-contract income-smoothing" and "scheduled blocks" to completely removes need for pools?

If yes, that would also remove the need to make p2pool work with Cryptonote.   Cool

I still think its a worthwhile discussion so I repost here to see what you guys maybe think:

[–]ozkraut 4 points 3 days ago

that is a most interesting discussion which opened up a lot of thoughts about difficulty algorhitms and mining in general. The discussion on moving averages brought up some analogies in my sphere of expertise which is decision support tools for supply chain / inventory optimisation.Which includes a variety of forecast algos where I see some synergies in terms of measuring volatility and smoothing of spikes. Running multiple moving averages with different horizons to weigh the std deviation of each to smooth out peaks and troughs come to mind. Interesting topic. Thanks for the link. I shall think about it some more.

Been reading. Deep topic. Do we have historical hashrates stored anywhere? If so : were there any known attacks and can they be related to said hashrate history?

So far: As these events are initiated by at least one bad actor and as such are random from the observers perspective I shall deviate from my earlier view which drew analogies to demand history etc etc. This seems more motorracing related. Specifically suspension. What I understand so far is that it seems the issue of rebalancing the difficulty algo dynamically opens all sorts of opportunity to oscillate difficulty and take advantage at each end of the spectrum. Which gets me to back to suspension. What it seems to me is that we have the spring but we don't yet have the dampers which deaden the spring. Not sure if thats a great analogy but it resonates with me in terms of the randomness of the attack and the response the network has to give. I shall go away and look at some stuff on active suspensions and their approach. Just a hunch but it may be that an attack can be treated like a bump in the road......

edit: looking at this just for a sniff

To prevent this, I'd suggest to comment on the Github issue too. Stuff on reddit gets buried pretty fast. In addition, the search function isn't optimal in my opinion.
