Hey there,

i want to get heavy into XMR in 2018.
Maybe you can help me a bit with the timing?
Are there any remarkable dates/events in the early year, which could influence the price?

Monero creates a unique address for each transaction and generates a private viewkey (read key). Only the recipient and the person who receives the key can see the complete transaction information.

In theory, the government can not spy on any information. Monero also automatically pulls a deal with other mix coins of the same size, adding a layer of protection that keeps people from following the blockchain

Yep.  bullet proofs on the testnet already Smiley   Sounds to me as though both are progressing well thus far.   To the best of my knowledge (admittedly not the best) both are likely to be in the next protocol upgrade, barring catastrophic testing issues.
It feels like a few weeks ago that I first heard about Bullet Proofs.  Now they are likely weeks from release.  The Monero Team is Fast.  Spaceship Fast.  Never thought I'd say that  Cheesy

Slow down there buddy.  The release for the March HF code is scheduled for mid Jan. so that does not give much time for testing BulletProofs.  At the dev meeting 2 weeks ago there was no consensus as to when BPs would be released.  I imagine they are keeping an open mind but my guess is it will probably not make it.  I must say that more people are involved in development these days so things do move faster but nothing will be released unless it is thoroughly tested and reviewed.  Like everyone I hope it makes it.  It is a rather easy replacement to our current range proofs but it is new tech.  It would be the first implementation where money is involved so..............

Multisig has been tested and is ready for the March HF.  Being a wallet change it actually doesn't need a HF.  It is already on master and will be there and ready to use in the Jan release.  If BPs are ready for the Jan code they will not be used until March as they do need a HF.

I really think Monero has one of the best shots to become the top crypto currency in the next year or two.

After that?  I think DeepOnion can take over.

Sigh.  Enthusiasm Crushed.

Reduced to level:  Uber Bullish.

Maybe I'm wrong to be so influenced by some troll on twitter, but but but...

single-output Bulletproofs code is merged and will be live as part of the March hard fork.

The GUI could be updated the way, that is will show on transaction history details also the integrated address, if such is used when sending. Now when using integrated address the GUI creates a standard address and shows only it on the transaction details.

Yes he is a self professed troll.

Yes it is live...................on test net........and has been.........for a short while  Tongue

No decision has yet been made.  Yesterday there was discussion by many of the  core team, devs, researchers and contributors about how to release BPs properly while taking into account everybody's desire that it be done yesterday  Grin

I will be satisfied with whatever is the outcome as I know the decision will be made with proper perspective.

As the timing is tight and many would really like this to be included in the next HF, we may well not know if it will actually fly till the March HF arrives.........or whenever the HF arrives  Cool

OR a second release closer to (delayed as required) protocol upgrade season.  Importance of BP at this juncture is huge.  No telling what the space will look like in a few months, but waiting longer for the spring upgrade would be preferable to waiting all the way until the fall upgrade, should BP have insufficient testing in the near term.  Biggest question, I guess, is how much lead do we need for software implementation before the network shift.  For individuals, it is the work of a couple minutes.  Some pools and exchanges are slow to begin with though, and the massive load they are all under currently isn't likely to improve things.  OTOH, nothing like necessity as a spur to action.  And may they all reduce fees at the same time!

It doesn't.  Read back a few pages, this question is answered several times per week.  Monero is fair, secure, private and fungible.  It is not a bitcoin clone with lipstick.  Monero is alone in this category.

Monero has an opaque block-chain. Deeponion masks IP traffic. Which you can also do with monero anyway by downloading the necissary dependancies and running it like this

Code:
DNS_PUBLIC=tcp TORSOCKS_ALLOW_INBOUND=1 torsocks monerod --p2p-bind-ip 127.0.0.1 --no-igd

But even that is just a temporary stopgap measure. Kovri, our own network level privacy tool has its development fully funded and is actively being worked on here. https://github.com/monero-project/kovri

Monero is the real deal. It was what you were probably actually looking for when you found your way to deeponion.

Hi there,

I'm putting together an evaluation matrix of all notable Anonymous/Private cryptocurrencies, and could use your help clarifyiing Monero.    Feedback including reference to something official (website, whitepaper etc) or Dev comments (or devs themselves) would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!
