Thanks for the input guys. I did upgrade my Monero GUI to the latest version. I think the issue now is that, after the upgrade, the blockchain has to be "corrected" such that my GUI syncs to the right chain after the fork. I hope this works. As an aside, say I royally F this up, wouldn't it be possible to just redownload the new version of the Monero GUI and launch it anew with my seed words?

Yes, if you have the seed words that will definitely help.

Hi, I was hoping to get some help regarding my Monero GUI wallet for my MacBook pro. I have been using my Monero wallet since September 15th, 2017 without difficulty. Recently, I purchased some Monero on TradeOgre. I sent the coins to my GUI wallet and they never arrived. This was the first time I have not received my coins. The next day I used ChangeNow to convert BTC to Monero and had them sent to my wallet. Again the coins did not arrive. I have logged in and out of my wallet several times. Moreover, it says that the network status is connected. Any help from those who have had such issues or from those who know how to correct this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I suspect your funds are going towards the construction of a new gypsy palace, don't store your coins on websites folks.

What kind of worthless advise is this? The person stated they purchased Monero and then they were trying to transfer to their personal GUI wallet. They were not keeping their coins on a website. Unless you want to consider the moments between purchase and the withdrawal "keeping."
@Zebulonpike. You have updated your wallet to the latest version due to the recent hardfork, correct?

Sorry I thought it was yet another post complaining about problems missing funds from mymonero.com, when he said "my monero" I thought it was a reference to that website. The post post above it must have triggered me, I stopped reading after the first sentence and quoted it, my bad.

I passed out from the heat shortly after posting that, it got really hot it may have fried my brain a bit.

Just noticed this post about a reorganization of 21 blocks. Can anyone comment (Smooth?) whether such a long reorg has happened before or what the odds are with presumably considerable <51% hashrate?

Quote
There was one fork that reorganized by an astonishing 21 blocks. That means the eventually-thrown-away branch was the longest one for 21 blocks before the "other" branch (which eventually became the winner) overtook it. A 21-block branch is enough to double-spend against basically anybody.

2018-05-06 20:13:35.002 [P2P5] INFO global src/cryptonote_core/blockchain.cpp:934 REORGANIZE SUCCESS! on height: 1565690, new blockchain size: 1565711

Would really like an explanation of how this happened, preferably from the pool(s) that mined this branch. I have logs going back about a month (to April 2nd) and this fork is the only one that reorganized by more than two blocks. It's not normal.

Japan is going to crack down on privacy coins. How will this effect Monero and other privacy coins?

You can start from scratch, but I think it'd be much faster to use monero-blockchain-import --pop-blocks 26375.

Could this happen if your farm dropped its network connection (or DOS)? lots of uncontested "local" blocks. then it comes back and boom, 21 block chain. Rejected!

Could you post the full output of Show status (on the Settings page of the GUI)? I think you're synced to the wrong (alternative) chain and, as a result, cannot see your recent purchases in the GUI, hence my question.

Nuking your blockchain (data.mdb) would work, but it's a bit of a blunt and, preferably, a last resort method. Restoring from the 25 word mnemonic seed won't be necessary. That is, merely nuking the blockchain would be sufficient.

P.S. If you think you're on the wrong (alternative) chain, use this guide to correct your local blockchain:

In a steem blog, a user announce that there is many fake sites claiming to be offering wallet to Monero holders and that many miners started storing their funds out there. The article was evaluated from Reddit posts but there is no references links to those posts.
Am not holding Monero but just want to warn community about it.
Check the steem article for fake addresses used by a scam site.

For monero, We need to have many more smaller pools, miners should consider not using huge pools.
agreed. sadly greed is a stupid thing that prevents most people to accept they have to wait for days for an eventual block find.

Japanese exchange Coincheck has announced partial resumption of operations with Monero. Its clients will be able to withdraw and sell XMR, but purchases are still unavailable. All previous requests for transactions have been canceled and users will have to initiate new transfers. They will be required to confirm the destination address, and state the purpose of each transaction.

This is very odd. Sell to whom, since each seller requires a buyer. Is the exchange going to trade XMR on its own account?

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Looking for someone who is really into trading xmr, i have to invest a large amount of money now for a tech project usecase over the next months

What kind of investment you are really looking for ?
I don't expect traders only trading xmr but if you are really willing to invest a large amount of money in Monero xmr for a tech project then just contact professionals or make a post in Project Developement board.

It looks like monero has a lot of competition from the zen coins such as zcash and zencash also you have coins such as masari trying to compete with monero.  Does this affect me as an investor?

I don't know, does that effect you as an investor?

And why would you ask yourself a question in an open forum, are you just talking to yourself out loud?

I know none of those coins are the real deal and therefor they have no impact on Monero so they certainly don't affect me.

Of privacy coins, I think the best 100x upside potential is Spectrecoin (XSPEC).

Spectrecoin (XSPEC), best undervalued privacy coin.  More private than zcash/dash.  Think it will go from $0.50 to $5.00.
That's 10x.
Longer term, think it'll be $50. imo

what blockchain technology spectrecoin is using? how privacy is it compared to Monero/Zcash?

When the sentiment about Monero fluctuates , I 'll be monitoring it in real time with the Amulet Platform data tool just released . Its best way to keep my finger on Monero.
Sounds interesting. Keep us updated if you feel so inclined.

Maybe you can put up buy orders but not execute trades?
