Hello!

I downloaded the Monero GUI wallet. Started the monero app on my ledger, and created a new address for the ledger, in the Monero wallet. Im waiting for the wallet to sync now. will the wallet work just as normal? The only difference, is that i will have to conect the ledger, to be able to send Monero?

And i dont have to keep the ledger connected, while the wallet is syncing?

Sorry for the noob questions:P

Please see:

https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/9901/how-do-i-generate-a-ledger-monero-wallet-with-the-gui-monero-wallet-gui

From the link you posted

It's imperative that the closing process of your Ledger Monero wallet is done in this specific consecutive order:
[1] Exit the GUI by clicking on the x (right top).
[2] Exit the Ledger Monero app.
[3] Unplug the Ledger device.

I unplugged the ledger, while i was waiting for the wallet to sync, when the wallet was still running. Any idea what kind of issues that can cause?

The wallet cache won't be saved properly. As a result, the wallet refresh will not pick up where it left off. That is, the next time it will start from scratch again. Luckily, this only takes 5-10 minutes with a proper restore height (e.g. the one in the guide).

2000 pages ladies and gents. Nice to have been around to read, ponder and sometimes engage with many great posts. I always feel that I probably would have a great time drinking a beer or having a spliff with many of you. My kind of crowd.
Here is to the next 2000. Although I feel Monero is going to be around much longer than bitcointalk and our future pages may be written elsewhere.

Just wanted to ask if there won't be any party for this 2000 pages milestone. Smiley Few more pages and we will be ahead of our time (2018). Tongue
I enjoy this topic too. Love all the info I get here and the opportunity that I can provide the info to new people who come here to get to know Monero and let them fall in love with it too.
Cheers to all Monerians. (How do you call a person who HODLs, support and use Monero?)

By the way,

how is kovri doing?

Wasn't alpha software just recently released? We actually have a buildable functional kovri for the first time now as I understand it. Seems good.

I confirm that. All the previous releases have the status "alpha-rc", i.e. "pre-alpha". Official alpha has been released just few weeks ago:
https://github.com/monero-project/kovri/releases/tag/v0.1.0-alpha

Monero/Kovri devs do have just one disadvantage: a very... VERY poor PR activity. They often do the great things in total silence. They probably think the github activity is completely sufficient source of a new information for the whole community.

Yea that is a problem. Even getmonero.org is not properly updated. For example there was not info of GUI-problems. There were wrong wallet version numbers. The moneropedia https://getmonero.org/resources/moneropedia/ is inadequate. The team does anyway great job, but due to lack of PR, it is very difficult for ordinary people to get knowledge of Monero through all the noise of crypto.

What do you people think? Is this lack of communication conscious or just lack of situational awareness?

I guess the Monero community could have have some capabilty to arrange reasonable site and campaign for the possible future Monero users.

What kind of GUI-problems are you referring to? As far as I know, the issue of the downloads page listing the wrong version number was swiftly resolved.

With respect to Moneropedia, it's basically to community's job to improve it.

I wouldn't say the lack of communication is conscious. Rather, Monero is largely built by volunteers and, as a result, there is no dedicated "team" to manage these kind of things.

The GUI was not properly functional on many devices for three months, since april to last release. It was connecting and not connecting to nodes. Both local and remote nodes. During that time GUI had to be MacGyvered by combining GUI and CLI files.

People were seeking answers on reddit, bitcointalk and where ever they could.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/8aoxeu/monerowalletgui_has_stopped_working_v012/

There was no info at all of this on getmonero.org. If there had been, plenty of hassle, effort and time would have been saved.

The wrong version numbers were there many days or even few weeks.

I was just checking some Monero network statistic here: https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/monero-hashrate.html.
And now I wonder why hashrate has fallen so dramatically in May? Is that a mistake or was there any major event which caused this?

I also find number of Monero transactions interesting, there is actually not a lot of them. Even Doge has approximately 5x more transactions on average. https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/transactions-xmr-doge.html What do you guys think is the reason for this? Not enough exposure of XMR, fees, complexity, UI?

ASICs had been stealth mining and the algo was changed to cryptonight v7 to thwart them.

https://1stminingrig.com/monero-cryptonight-v7-and-sumokoin-hardforks-all-you-have-to-know/

Man, i just checked Sumokoin out, what a freaking joke riding on the work of the Monerodevs. 10% premine kept in "coldstorage" (nobody knows who is in charge of the coldstorage) until 2020, 6 months diff freazing, the first "official" thread got closed, the second one is a joke, man this is true shit on the base of a high level code  Roll Eyes Shocked Angry

Yeah, Anyone that checked out sumocoin on launch could see it was scamcoin then.

When is this forking to remove the FPGA's and ASIC's turning on daily? Is it still sticking to a 6-monthly algo tweak?

It would be nice to also update the price of the coin at the top. For example, a figure such as 2000$, I hope no one here will not be against. And that too was delayed drop at this time, we have become accustomed over the past year to increase.  Smiley

AFAIK it's impossible to fork away from a FPGA as it is a programmable array that can be changed to any new algo they fork to.

BTW the reason the new FPGA's can hash so quickly is because they are not pure FPGAS but Hybrids with SOC (system on chip).

Hi guys,

I thought I would post this video to show how you can make use of them empty CPU threads and put them to use dual mining another coin.

https://youtu.be/Z96wDpjPhvA

Dual mining this coin will not make you millions as of yet but for me its been paying for my CPU mining costs with a bit left over Cheesy

Happy Mining.

You may not but others out there may. As I said its helped me to cover my cpu running costs mining xmr.

Just because you dont wish to Dual mine thats not to say others will not. Not all of us have stacks of vega.

You did recognize, that this is a Monero thread? Not being hostile, but we have a mining thread for Monero, better trying there, despite i do not believe that the interest for ROI will be better there Grin

Look I my self mine XMR as well as other coins. There are miners who would like to use the threads on the cpu that are not in use to get the most out of the hardware that they have( some of us have big servers with lots of threads not working). Just because you dont wish to duel mine and many others may not wish to. There is going to be miners looking to get the most out of the hardware they have.
So maybe you should just not comment given you clearly have no need for it. But there is going to be miners out there that wish to dual mine. So maybe you should keep your comments to your self.

I like that Monero (XMR) is a confidentiality-oriented crypto currency that is not based on the Bitcoin code and which continues to evolve.
