If he's under house arrest and presumably have a few hidden Bitcoin wallets?

- Food Delivery
- Computer Parts Delivery
- Escorts / Prostitutes making outcalls to his mom's house
- Paying people to pick him up beer
- Mom makes him dinner every night

Explain how house arrest is a punishment..   Grin

It isn't suppose to be, he hasn't been convicted yet.

It's only a freedom punishment but yes bitcoin can do all that in your list for you, It makes things really easy in situation like this one. Still I would be sick If i should be at house all the time.

Pretty sure all those are possible even without access to bitcoin.
His mama could just hook him up with a few shekels.

Not being able to leave your residence is a huge punishment not nearly as bad as jail, but it would cause me to lose my sanity.

I suspect OP reveals a bit too much of their own priorities in that list. Smiley

Depends on the length of time, but generally I agree. Our primate brains are wired for novelty, experience, challenge, exercise, sunlight, and human social interaction - meaning affection/touch, and sex.

A lack of any one of these elements will have negative effects on our mental health. A nearly ubiquitous lack of affection, connection, and social interaction is driving the 30 year rise in mental illness in the USA.

This is why I refer to the placement of non-violent criminals into cages / dungeons / prisons as cruel and usual punishment.

Yeah he's allowed to use it anytime - he browses here and it's how he contacts his parole officer.

Charlie Shrem was supposed to visit the premier of Rise & Rise of Bitcoin. So he is getting out of his home too. Seems things are coming back to normalcy...

This.  Kinda strange that the OP believes people not convicted of any crime should be pre-emptively punished.  If Shrem is convicted THEN he will be punished and it won't be house arrest.

The judge thinks that Charlie is a flight risk, and he should. It would be so easy for Charlie to take his bitcoins and move to anywhere in the world, or a country that doesn't extradited to the USA. This is to make sure he can't do that. So no this is not a punishment more o f they want to keep him where they know he will be.
