I'm developer working with thanful_for_today on merged mining issues. I see that community is against merged mining in BitMonero but I still believe in MM. I will start my own blockchain with MM implementation from scratch.

New blockchain will need no additional hashpower - it will use Bytecoin/BCN or BitMonero/BMR blocks or shares as PoW. Miners are free to choose "donor" chain they like. In case other chains based on CryptoNote will appear they also can be used as "donor" chains. This way I expect that new chain will have more hashpower than both BCN and BMR.

[4] BitMonero merged mining post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=584893.0

First merged mining instructions for those who doesn't like GUI:

First of all be sure of two things:

1. Launch Bytecoin's or Bitmonero's daemon and wait till its synchronization.

2. Start FantomCoin's daemon. The process is very similar to BCN's: launch command line, navigate to the right folder and launch fantomoind.exe . Use "save" command after synchronization  Wink

3. Create FCN's address. Again it is the same process as for BCN and BMR: open another instance of command line, navigate to Fantomcoin’s folder and generate new wallet with “simplewallet”.

simplewallet --generate-new-wallet=example_wallet.bin --pass=12345

Here “example_wallet.bin” is the name of the wallet (use .bin file extension) and “12345” is the password for your new wallet.

4. One more command line is needed. Navigate to Fantomcoin's folder and launch minerc.exe using the next command:

minerc --node1=127.0.0.1:8081 --node2=127.0.0.1:24081 --wallet1=%your BCN or BMR address% --wallet2=%your FCN address%

--node1=127.0.0.1:8081 is IP and BCN's daemon port. If you want MM with BMR you need to use this one: --node1=127.0.0.1:18081 instead
--node2=127.0.0.1:24081 is IP and FCN's  daemon port

5. Enjoy merged mining!

Merged mining with GUI:

1. Start daemons and make sure they are synchronized with the network. Use save command after it.
2. Start GUI miner. Add BCN/BMR and FCN addresses to the right field. Click "Start"
3. PROFIT!

As far as I understand, BCN has enough hashpower so it will be pretty much to use only Bytecoin/BCN blocks or shares as PoW. What other chains based on CryptoNote are you talking about?

You can also use Bitmonero's PoW as far as I understand.

Still believe in MM too. The idea you've suggested here is pretty nice but I wonder if you are going to create a new coin?

Did I get you right - would it be a new fork like Bitmonero but with MM using bitmonero's or bytecoin's  blockchain?

What's the point to make block time so short? I hardly believe there is some impatient people who can't wait a few minutes

Why don't you make it 2 minutes like BCN block time?

Mmm, I'm not sure that I correctly understood. Do you make a new fork? Or will it be an additional app that can be used together with existing BSN, MRO and HP?

Why don't you keep mining BCN like you have been last 2 years by yourself and leave MRO the way it is. Then people can decide what they want to go with. Answer is pretty easy, they don't want anything to do with a coin that has been mined more than 80% already.

STOP MERGED MINING/GATEKEEPING pushing us towards BCN. They both can co-exist without merged mining.

Seems like you contradict yourself: at first, you are telling to keep mining BCN and then you are telling about some injustice that is actually doubtable, IMHO, and discourage people to mine it.

Have you compared the hashpower of MRO and BCN lately? Can you explain the trend as to why people have stopped mining BCN and moved on to MRO? I made my point (albeit a little aggressively) and no it wasn't a contradiction. We know exactly why this merged mining proposal is being shoved down our throats and needless to say it will not succeed. It will only cause a short term disturbance and annoyance. If you like BCN, please by all means keep mining BCN. Do not forget that an idea of clean fork of BMR was abandoned by the regulars here because they also understood that constant fragmentation is not a good idea and gave a chance to thankful_for_today to at least start listening to the community and try to see the majority concerns. The rigged vote system was also called out.

MRO is getting high profile attention even from early BTC adopters.

Your post does remind me of quoting smooth

I would ask how it is that this army of 1000 (or is it 100 billion) Newbies always show up and argue every issue in favor of helping BCN. Why would that be?

I don't understand why MM is such heated debate. It seems to me if the same CPU can mine two coins, it's better to mine two coins.

Because you are merging Monero, a coin somewhat distinct for a clean launch, with a coin shrouded in mystery with a lot of suspicious manipulation around it (80% mined when released to the public, vague allusions to use in the darknet despite no real evidence as such, an incredibly polished pool miner (Minergate) within days of launch that just happens to charge 10%, team separated from the Cryptonote team for unclear reasons, etc.). That hurts the marketability of Monero. I highly doubt that Bytecoin will ever take off as it will never be able to shake the 80% mined problem. Look at how much trouble Darkcoin has and that was an order of magnitude smaller ninja-mine.

Monero also doesn't need the Bytecoin network to secure its hash as it is already on track to surpass the Bytecoin net hashrate. It would essentially be linking Monero to a coin that will likely become increasingly smaller relative to Monero for no real advantage.

No merged mining for MRO.  BCN is already 80% mined.  It bad to associate good new coin MRO with BCN.

Hope to see you'll fix everything soon.

Monero network hash rate is now much bigger than Bytecoin. Mining Bytecoin is not relevant anymore. In the next few months, I don't believe that people remember Bytecoin as the first CryptoNote, but a failed coin.

Monero network hash rate is now much bigger than Bytecoin. Mining Bytecoin is not relevant anymore. In the next few months, I don't believe that people remember Bytecoin as the first CryptoNote, but a failed coin.

Only time will show if you r right.
IMO, that BCN is like BTC in its early time and if you remember there were a lot of fork that promised to replace Bitcoin but this didn't happen. So, I doubt that BCN will become a ''failed'' coin.
But as I have told, only time will show

IT'S TIME TO START MINING, GUYS! EVERYTHING IS READY!

You may download everything you need there:
http://fantomcoin.org/

3. PROFIT!

I like your choice of curve emission - 22 is the best option as it is stable and, furthermore, is familiar to our community cause it's close to Bitcoin's curve.

Will there be Linux binaries?

Indeed! In comparison with Monero this coin support MM which open a transition to another level of mining.

Now, while some people would mine only Monero, I could mine Fantomcoin and Bytecoin at the same time.
Thanks a lot to amphibian and TFT for making MM possible .

I see no point mining Monero with MM, because hash rate with this fantomcoin miner is about 4 times lower than while mining Monero with monero's miner(win64)

That's better for me if there'd people who would 'solo' mine only Monero. MM is pontless only if eveyone would do it but if even some people would 'solo' mine only one coin that would make MM benefitial to 'solo' mine.

I want MM and I would do it  Smiley And I am sure DStrange and other early Bytcoin's members will do the same.

Would be wonderful to see the same friendly gui miner for BCN.

btw, using command line is good choice, nice to see that you've followed already become a traditional boot sequence.

Nicely done, merge mining FCN-MRO since start. Although not sure if i'll be able to get any blocks at MRO, diff is through the roof Smiley
BTW any possibility to use miner/hash optimizations from MRO? That optimization doubled the hashes at MRO.

How can you set the number of threads used for mining from the command line? My CPU is only at 18% so I think it must be using only one thread. Also, If it's all working what output should we expect in the command prompt?

Wen mining do we need to have wallet running, or specifying wallet address in daemon is enough?

How do you set the number of threads? Can it be done, or do you run multiple instances of minerc.exe?

I took a guess and added,   --threads=4   , to the end of the command and that worked for me

Thats whats wrong. People like you that dont know their shit and still talking big. Devs of this coin also made bitmonero with only target to raise bytecoin awareness and dump their premine. It was lucky for bitmonero that community was created that actually responds to people and try to make a coin simple for people. And make features for it...

If you look back when Monero launch there were also many problems with launching it successfully. Even now there is problems with MRO.

IMO, that amphibian did great job! I've made my choice  - I will mine this coin as I can see its potential.

Finally, it is working!  Cheesy That is what I call a clean launch! Can’t wait to start merged mining ByteCoin+FantomCoin. The future is after MM. I believe this is one that will use 100% of my CPU power 24/7 with good perspective of stable income.

Cool! Merged mining-that’s what i wanted! FantomCoin to me is better now than only just BitMonero. Any suggestions on what’s easier to mine? BCT+FCN or BMR+FCN? I’m in favour of BCT as it is old enough and it gives a guarantee that it won’t just disappear in one moment.

I think FTC looks like a worthy competitor to BTC in the future.  I especially like the fact that it is possible to mine BCN + FTC together.

Congrats to authors! Well done! Using merged mining gave FantomCoin a great perspective! This is really a brand new vision on what CN-currency should be. In comparison with BitMonero the authors gave a great chance to use MM. To me it seems inefficient to mine only one currency now..

Great start guys, after having to choose between two currencies, now I can mine two of them at the same time!! I believe I would change them from time to time. I mean my approach is to mine ByteCoin + FantomCoin for a couple of months, than to change it for BitMonero+FantomCoin as I am still not sure about future of BMR Roll Eyes . Any opinion on its perspectives?

BitMonero can’t compare with FantomCoin ..i can’t understand, why authors of BMR didn’t add merged mining support?? FantomCoin has all pros against Monero. Giving chance to mine both BMR+FCN is a smart decision. Definitely it’s a future of crypto currencies. Cheesy

Uneducated question alert:

When you merge mine two coins does it mean that hashing power is split between 2 coins? Or does it mine both with full power?

I was mining Monero with 6 threads with 17.3 h/s

Right now merge mining FCN + BMR, 6 threads also = 4.75835 h/s

(I kinda doubt that BMR hash info was correct at the daemon, because people reported less than my result on better i7's. I only have i7 2600K 3.4ghz, 16 gig ram)

I'm getting similar:

Failed to get block1

Run a "save" command in BMR or BCN daemon (depends on which one you're running).
Hit save one both MRO. No change.

really cool! That's a real advantage of fantomcoin, because BCN and BMR/MRO don't have working generic versions.

Wow diff is rising fast, mainly because solo mining mro and bcn has become impossible for people with few high end cpus. Fantomcoin is the next stop for smalltimeminers until mro pool is introduced

Wanted to add: tested FantomCoin on my old macbook air (mid 2012) with 10.8 OSX version on it - worked like a charm as well.

Which is actually awkward since Bitmonero’s version did not work. So, I guess we got ourselves first <OSX10.9 miner?

Glad for you. Unfortunately for me, I was far from PC these days and have missed official launch.
Happy to find here mac version too and so soon after launching unlike BCN and MRO.

Hey guys

Updated binaries for all versions:

1. Fast BMR/MRO-like hash
2. Added win32 version (win32 version for now does not have a gui, some compilations problems, will add it a little bit later)

Updated links could be found here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=598823.0.

Update: stumbled upon some difficulties with OSX version - going to look into it. Other versions are working just fine.

Any exchange?

Not yet, working on it. Smiley

We have reviewed the code and the merged mining technology. We believe that it is a valuable contribution to the CryptoNote development. Thus, we are going to officially announce Fantomcoin as a CryptoNote coin.

There is one issue with the block types. Even though proposed block structure is compatible with merged mining of 2+ coins simultaneously, the daemon apparently doesn't support it. We are expecting you to update the daemon with that issue.

Could you also submit the 50x50 px logo of the coin so that we add it to the website?

What kind of hash rates are you all seeing on the latest release (5/9/14) ?

I'm getting ~9 H/s on an i7-3770 3.4Ghz, which is about half the rate I was getting on the latest Monero miner.

Multipool usually use its own algorithm to calculate profitability.
You won't to mine FCN-MRO-BRN , cos these cryptocurrencies appeared on the market recently. And this makes cryptocurrencies less competitive and less profitable as result

I guess it would depend on how effective those would be. Right now most of coins are each other clones so it might be even possible to some extent.

You only have to calculate profitability between mining BCN or MRO, both are MAIN chains, but MRO is SEC chain, so for each block resolved (BCN or MRO) you get another block of MRO.

Im not a DEV so i guess is easier said than done

As I know, premain is an opportunity to earn more coins at the same time. It's like "extra fuel" for the speedy passage of a blockchain

You're wrong.
Premining typically meant, mining that happens before a coin is publicly launched. As soon as it is made available to the public there could be no more premining.

Hey guys!

Please update your binaries - new version is released - introducing faster hash function (MRO like)

Linux binaries https://mega.co.nz/#!NQVE0YaI!H4zL8zu_f_rnRln64eH6gPemNxzBuBiFg9i5mg5E4P4
Windows binaries https://mega.co.nz/#!9NUlwR5L!mpQrthSrEKdWQ1DRQMrW0Lb5mySfQk9ZKOpOihCEoWY
Win-32 binaries https://mega.co.nz/#!IM0VWbZT!q-YyhQi51rlKUGgC5XcAHvPGN5UFNJ10tKL-YgrNkZg
MacOS binaries https://mega.co.nz/#!oEE0nCSD!OHgv2DEz_su5Be81lj7nmT0Ef8sGcBs9uLwmr7ckxDc
Source https://github.com/amphibia/fantomcoin

No more hash differences between MRO and FCN - mine with the high speed both currencies. Smiley

SoloMiner will be updated tomorrow, thank you for your support.

Cheers. Smiley

You must choose which pair you'll mine FCN-MRO or FCN-BCN.
Unfortunately, MM all the BCN-MRO-FCN isn't carried out

Hi, im trying crypto note merged mining for the first time.. but i feel like i dont understant some things:
- with guiminer, i am solomining? have monero and fantom daemons opened and syncing, and as far as i can see, they are adding blocks as alternatives to existing monero blockchain..
- its 100 blocks now, and when i refresh the fantom wallet, its still on zero..
- running on 4cores, which gives me ~5H/s. mining monero gives about 90H/s on 4 cores, same cpu...

so, please:
- is hashrate ok?
- cryptonote based coins are still bit riddle to me, but i asume that diff is high and there is no point to solomine, same as in btc/ltc/whatever clones?
- so there is no point to mine that way without pool (which i did not find, in case it exist)?

thanks

I'm no expert, but I'll try to help you.
1) IMO, hashrate is too low. What kind of CPU do you use?
2) IMO, there is no point to solomine. I'm MM only
3) pool doesn't exist

Is there anyone who have configured LAN mining for FCN?

Yep these instructions were good: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=598823.msg7051172#msg7051172

With FCN/MRO merged mining I was getting a too many files opened error in the MRO daemon (latest build) after a while (since I had 5 nodes connected to 1 daemon) so I instead am merge mining FCN/QCN instead, which has less errors in the QCN daemon (not sure why it seems to work better).
Just replace the MRO port 18081 with 23081 for QCN daemon port.

Its haswell i5. Im minimg monero with about 350H/s on more machines, but on pool..
I dont want to solomine, only figuring out which way this kind of merged mining work. Currently im mining vert on pool, which supports merged mining monocle and parallax, which is great, but if there is no pool for fantom, i just have to wait for one Smiley
anyway, thanks

I think this statement is provable for every CN-based coin.

I am curious what FCN community think about MonetaVerde (MCN) as it's a second merged mining CryptoNote currency (after Fantomcoin) ?

Bytecoin (BCN) - true anonymity, privacy protection and only CPU-mining

I've got such thoughts when I saw my electricity bill. I guess I have to buy a more powerful processor

More powerful processor will consume more energy, that's why the payment  of electricity bills won't decrease

Yes, but  the number of mined coins will increase . Therefore, charges for electricity will pay off

I think FCN has a lot of benefits such as MM or good hash rate. Thus, IMO FCN will be able to claim for #1 of  all alternative cryptocurrencies

Have you guys (or girls) heard that they've open new pool? (It's called Xmining or something)

I think that's a kinda one big step forward for Fantomcoin just because this pool is... "open source". If you know what i mean.

Another useless pool or start of something big and profitable?
I don't care about all open source stuff (i know that it's important, i'm not a troll), but i care about other things (uptime, payment system and etc.) What can you tell me about it, dear whistleblower?

Hello!  Smiley

It's the Hibtc team here, we'd like to invite your community to take part in our Coin Voting process.
Only active members of community can choose which currencies should be trading on Hitbtc.
You can vote for FantomCoin and add it to Hitbtc. Every few weeks we add the coin with the highest number of votes. We've already added Doge and are in the process of adding NXT now.
A small tip: you can sign in here: https://hitbtc.com/signin and add 10 votes instead of one from non-registered users.
The other way to add a coin to the exchange is our Market Maker program. We add any coin with two Market Maker contracts, irrespective of the number of votes it has. Take a look here: https://hitbtc.com/mm
Our exchange offers unrivalled advanced technology and our latest additions have seen their exchange rates thrive once live on our platform. We think it would be a great opportunity to give your coin excellent publicity, and secure a boost to its value and liquidity.

Any questions, feel free to ask!

I noticed that people no longer votes on the hitbtc  for the Fantomcoin. I'm upset

The voting is over, isn't it? if not then I will go and vote one more time

Some of you might remember that I’ve been missing for a whole month. So as you see I haven’t been fooling around all this time.  I’m open to your suggestions as to how to improve the website. PM me if you’ve got smth to share.
