Hi, could you spend a minute and explain how this messaging work technically. Very curious soul is asking.

Yea sure.

I will talk about the anonymous part first.

First to activate this anonymous messaging service, you need to verify your SFR address. You need to sign a message called "SFRMS" in your wallet with your SFR address. If you have your wallet, you can click the receive tab and at the bottom there would be a "Sign Message" button. After you enter your SFR address and the message - "SFRMS", click "Sign Message". A signature will then be provided. Then you need to paste those details on the SFRMS tab for verifying. I will explain this in detail once we release the Beta wallet.

You need to provide an alias or some name that you would like to use for this service. This is the only thing that is public. Others can send you a message only by knowing your Alias. So no private info is given out. Your alias is paired with your SFR address. But you only need to give out your Alias to the sender for receiving messages. This is done because many people would not like to give out their wallet addresses to others even though it is public. They would not like people checking the block explorer with their address to find their balance or transactions. So with just an alias you can remain truly anonymous and message anybody in a safe way without worrying about anyone snooping since the messages are deleted within 15 secs once you open message.
This part could lead to some illegal messaging since these messages can't be traced and are not stored anywhere. This service can be misused. So as a precaution we store the messages offline and will only be checked if found that this service is being misused.  Since the messages are not stored online at our server, your messages cannot be compromised.

Now about the encryption part.

If you want you can encrypt the message with a key. This key can be any sort of text that only you and your recipient should know.
The encrypted message will get transmitted to your recipient and he can only view the message with the key that you used.

Thats it! It is pretty simple to use it. Many of us would not have many uses for it. But some who wish to remain anonymous or send some sensitive messages and are worried about agencies snooping on their mail, this could really be an alternative that could be of very much use to them.

I hope i was able to make you understand. If you do have any more queries please ask!

Bro, this is truly some work! How/where exactly the messages are stored? How does it propogate messages? Do the full SFR nodes need to keep it? Also I guess you mentioned somewhere about perishable messages.

Thank you.

We are using the same concept of the Snapchat app where the messages are self destroyed after some time.

This is not peer-to-peer. If we had to make it like that then the messages can't be deleted because all of them would have to be written on top of the SFR blockchain. Also the blockchain is public so anyone can read your messages. So there is no privacy in it.
Also we want to expand this service to include image transfers too. Every basic necessity to be present right in your wallet. These things can also be done using other services too. But those services would need your personal info and your data is stored on their servers until it is personally deleted. We wanted to maintain privacy of users and keep them anonymous. So all you need is to choose a unique alias and pair it with your wallet address. You can then send messages to any other alias.
With P2P we can't achieve this and could interfere with the blockchain and cause a lot of problems later.

So the messages pass through our server and stored until the recipient opens the message. Once the message is opened, after 15 secs the server automatically deletes the message. So no trace of the message is left anywhere. But yes the user can take a screenshot or copy the message somewhere or even use a camera phone to capture it.

We have added SaffronCoin to our pool: http://poollo.com (X11 ALGO) , check it out here and spread the load!! :

http://poollo.com

You only need your SaffronCoin address as username, no need to register:
http://poollo.com

We have 3 different ports for different difficulties:

stratum+tcp://poollo.com:20008       <--- Fixed diff 0.01
stratum+tcp://poollo.com:20032       <--- Vardiff (0.01 / 2)
stratum+tcp://poollo.com:20256       <--- Fixed diff 1

The 32 one is auto adjust between 0.01 and 2 with target Time: 15, retarget Time: 90, variance Percent: 30

Fees are 0.9%, and payments are calculated and automatically sent to the wallet mining address every 2 minutes.

Just finished testing our Encrypted Messaging feature.

The Encryption we are using is AES-256-CBC. Highly secure for your 100 char messages.

POOF! is very secure because if someone wants to crack your confidential message, they will have just 15 secs to do that. No matter if you have the fastest computer in the world, you can't crack a AES-256-CBC encryption in 15 secs!

Many had requested for a built-in block explorer. We have now included a fully-fledged block explorer into the upcoming wallet.

Looks pretty sleek!

The next wallet will be v2.3-beta.

ETA is about 2 hours from now.

Before that I will be posting images on how to activate your address for the awesome Saffron Messaging Service!

Saffron Messaging Service Activation

These are the steps to activate SFRMS. It is pretty simple. You just need to verify your wallet address and provide an alias. For those that are new to cryptos or non-english speaking people, I have posted screenshots. In the future, we will look to develop it in different languages.

These same steps are required for new as well as already activated users.

1. Click on the "Receive" tab of your wallet. Click on an address which you would like to use for your SFRMS requirements. Then click the "Copy Address" button right at the bottom.

2. Paste that address in your SFRMS form like shown below:

3. Again go back to the "Receive" tab. Click on the "Sign Message" button which is right at the bottom.

4. Now the message that you need to enter that will be signed HAS TO BE "SFRMS". Some may wonder why all have to enter the same vague and short message. It doesn't really matter because you will only be using the SFRMS portal through the wallet. So there is no chance of any phishing attack. But if you need to sign a message on other platforms such as a website, then it is necessary to use a more detailed message. Also, these steps are only to verify that you own your SFR address. So you must exactly type "SFRMS" as shown below. Then just click the "Sign Message" button. Your unique signature will be displayed. Copy that.

5. Now paste the signature in the below text box. Choose a unique alias that is not already taken. Remember that you can't change your alias later. Your alias will be paired with your SFR address. This provides an extra level of anonymity in POOF! since you only need to give out this alias to people from whom you want to receive anonymous messages from. No personal details or your SFR address is ever required or given out in anonymous messaging. That's it! Click that blue button and then you can activate Email alerts or enter the POOF! portal for anonymous encrypted messaging.

All this does not really take 5 steps, but I tried to detail it out as much as I can so if anybody has a problem, they can always look it up and understand better.

Wallet v2.3-beta will be released in approx. 90 mins!

Multi-Tasking Wallet v2.3-beta including the Saffron Messaging Service (SFRMS) is now live!

Please download the the wallet v2.3-beta from saffroncoin.com.

What is SFRMS?

We wanted to create a service that could interact with the coin through common and widely used communication mediums such as Email and SMS. Instead of relying on 3rd party apps we wanted to provide our own secure transaction alerts for users similar to the way we get Email or SMS alerts when we withdraw or deposit money from/into our bank accounts respectively.
Keeping in mind the privacy of users and the demand in confidential messaging considering the rise in number of snooping agencies around us, we wanted to develop a secure anonymous encrypted messaging system that could transmit your message securely without giving out a single bit of your personal info and self destroy the message without leaving any trace behind. Hence we created POOF! which is a part of SFRMS.

POOF!

POOF! allows sending short 100 character messages and provides the receiver of the message 15 secs to read the message after which it will get self destroyed hence leaving no trace behind. You can send either a plain text message or an encrypted message. Encrypted messages use the AES-256-CBC encryption to encrypt your message. You need to enter any key of your choice to encrypt a message and provide the same key to your recipient to decrypt the message.

POOF! will be expanded in the future to include various types of data that can be transmitted anonymously. Due to this as well as the self destroying capability of messages, POOF! doesn't use the Blockchain to transmit the messages otherwise the messages would end up being public and wouldn't be automatically deleted.

POOF! is mighty secure and truly anonymous since no personal info of yours is given out but you can send a message to any person in the world who has activated SFRMS. With messages getting auto destroyed within 15 secs of the recipient opening the message, you can be well assured of your privacy and integrity of the message!

How to activate SFRMS?

It is very simple if you know how to verify an address. It hardly takes 30secs. You then need to just choose an alias and give that alias out to whomever you wish to receive messages from.
For details on activation please read this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=586320.msg7693945#msg7693945

We have included an awesome fully-fledged block explorer into the wallet.

We can now proudly say that we have raised the bar for innovative wallets and we now probably have the best and most feature-packed wallet!

Please note that SFRMS is in beta stage. Even though we have thoroughly tested, there might be a few bugs. If you find any please do report them. It would help us a lot!

Hello Community,

We have been thinking of a lot of features over past few weeks. We will be implementing most of them in due time. But we need to prioritize these features and implement the ones that most matter to people today.

So we are going to put our anonymous messaging platform POOF! development on hold now and resume it sometime later. We do not feel that this service is an absolute requirement at this stage.

We would like to prioritize other features first. Some of you requested a service similar to VeriBit. We feel this is a good necessity and a requirement. We would be only the second to implement it after VRC. This would also make people to "hold" on to SFR rather than "buy low sell high".
So we will start implementing this feature asap. We will be calling it SFRBit that converts SFR to BTC to buy stuff on places that accept Bitcoin.

The other priority features in line would be like someone suggested, a decentralized marketplace and anonymizing the coin.

These 2 are also good requirements. The anonymity that we would provide would be in form of optional stealth addresses. We can only be more clear on this once we start the development.
For a decentralized market, we will have a separate portal built in the wallet that lets you buy and sell goods anonymously.

Our next wallet will have a built-in exchange and SFRBit!

I am posting an update on our progress:

The client is almost ready for SFRBit, we are now the downloading the entire Bitcoin Blockchain on a separate node that processes SFRBit transactions. In the time it is taking to download the Blockchain, we thought of working on anonymity.

We could very well have our anon feature "SFRSend" alongwith SFRBit in the next wallet update. We can't confirm this yet but we are working on it.

Our implementation of anon is pretty good because we would not be needing a hardfork. The transactions will be anonymized only if you use the wallet not the rpc commands.

Your transaction will be bounced on many nodes thus making it difficult to track the sender. Your amount will also be split to multiple nodes and sent to your destination address in small parts.
All this could take about 1-2 hours for your entire amount to reach the destination. It depends on the amount of cycles you choose to anonymize your transaction. The more cycles you choose, the more difficult it would be to track but would also take longer to reach your destination.

We are thinking of implementing "Stealth disposable addresses" for you to anonymize your transactions. You can use those addresses only once. It is like use and throw.

We can confirm in detail on this only after a few days after we successfully test SFRBit.
