Step 1: raise 9000+ bitcoins.
Step 2: develop forum software from scratch.
Step 3: click shiny new 'unsubscribe' button.

There is an "unsubscribe link" in a email you get for subscribed topic.

This thread belongs in the Meta subforum.

This is an issue that was raised multiple times, it is impossible to do this with the current forum software.

I think the "ignore thread" mod of smf can be used for roughly the same purpose, but Theymos isn't willing to do any modifications before changing the whole thing.

I would install an "ignore thread" mod if I could, but I investigated this before and the existing mods don't work or are unsuitable for some other reason.

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!:

Simply remove the link to "Show new replies to your posts." and force everyone to read ALL THE TOPICS.

my button is called delete post. i press it for each submission i contributed in that forum.
it's only a workaround for the real & missing button but it kinda works.
if your posts were useful, someone quoted you and it's preserved

Scroll to either the top or the bottom of the thread page.  You will see a link that says, "notify".  Click it to turn notifications on or off.

yeah, but the 90 page threads in question are so long ago, i'd have to go through 90 pages of my previous posts to find them

maybe this is why atlas had so many forum accounts... to save him from manually deleting individual posts
