Difficulty just reached 7k, it's barely profitable power wise to keep mining scrypt coins, I have already distributed my miners to scrypt-n, x11 and x13 coins in hopes for them to be the next norm now that scrypt ASICs have ruined it for GPU miners.

Good luck to all.

High electricity bills have not enough to support the normal operation of the machine, also not to mention the profits

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

Goodbye GPU mining in general. I'm skeptical if you could create a new coin, just using a non-asic (yet) algo and make it a success. Dogecoin was a fluke, that aside- everything else just doesn't look like worth the effort compared to improving bitcoin itself.

Primecoin maybe? Protein folding coin?

more or less retired.

Anybody take the plunge and preordered from Flower Technology? $329 for a 10 mh/s? Wow! And it mines scrypt N too? Wow!

Now its time for them to come out with x11 ASIC and scrypt-n ASIC and we are completely doooom...

We'll adapt.

I won't accept that fact that I will have to play games with my gpu's only. Smiley

Newer coin , newer algo , new asic . It's rinse and repeat .

Indeed.  GPU mining is the past . ASIC is coming.

they said the same thing last year about sha256 mining, this time is for scrypt mining, not for mining in general

the fact that scrypt mining is over for gpu don't mean shit, it's the opposite, scrypt mining is dead

A new algorithm could come up which will be ASIC resistant for a while.
Maybe Darkcoin with x11?

x11 is not a good asic deterrent, some companies claim that they are secretly developing a scrypt-n asic too, probably bullshit for now, but it could be a reality soon

vertcoin guys claim that they will change the factor to an even higher one(this n-factor changing cannot be played for long), but this will reduce gpu efficiency too, which is not a good thing.

jackpot/heavycoin/aiden algo are just different ramifications of x11..

pure pos are not bad imho, but distribution need to be clear

we need something really new, but personally i don't care because i don't mine for 24/7 but only at launch, and at launch if you come first you can beat monsters hash

ya i heard about that somewhere else and it sounded like bs they have no proof they made it..
and the VTC dev said he would look into it and act on it so.. who knows even i fit is real that doesn't mean scrypt-n is over i think

Why not?
Well we need a good developer and we can have something that could deter asics.

Looks like Darkcoin is going to take the lead.

Best coins in order are:

1) Bitcoin
2) Darkcoin
3) Vertcoin

Goodbye GPU mining in general.

This just takes away the damn fun. imho, gpu mining was really fun, something to do. these asic things or w/e they are I'll call them "big machines" I cannot put a grasp on them "understand them" the scams, preorders, who to trust, where to go, where to go to trust, fucking shit like that. big machines aren't like I can goto authorized dealership and buy gpus right away and start gaming/mining. and plus big machines are what? $2k & up USD? wtf...

It is time to say good bye to GPU scrypt mining .Then where will you go ?X11 ?

All these random collections of hash-functions are a dead-end for ASIC-resistance...

You get ASIC-resistance from the use of memory.
scrypt, at 128KB, doesn't use even nearly enough, nor does scrypt-N.

You should be requiring at least a thousand times more memory:
hundreds of MB, if not GBs.

For verification to remain fast, you need an asymetric proof-of-work,
where verifying the proof is MUCH easier than a single attempt to find it.

I use a cloud scrypt mining service now as opposed to trying to chase the new coins or using a multipool and I don't have to constantly monitor my rigs or deal with electricity costs. Just a thought. http://scrypt.cc?ref=babLE (yes it's a referral link but that's what we do in the crypto world we pay it forward)

there are so many decent gpu alternatives. just mine those, dump and buy litecoin. its barely a difference.
