Well i mined 2 blocks using i3 but hashrate is rising so it seems like no more blocks for me, if anyone would be so nice and would like to donate please PM me Smiley
Also one thing...why does the logo remind me of metiscoin? I hope that this one won't have inactive devs like the metis did.

Yeah I figured it was pretty good but that's on a dedicated box optimized for gaming so all non-essential services turned off so not much else is hitting the CPU etc. Plus I have it OC'd with a water cooler. It's actually my flight simulator box I've been using for mining instead of flying the past month LOL.

30 Blocks found for me so far. Haven't found one in the past hour tho. Still chugging along.

Always interesting to see new algos.

As far as I can tell the hashing algo is:

SHA2(Twister(SHA2(X))) where X is the message.

From hash.h

Code:
    uint256 hash1;
    SHA256((pbegin == pend ? pblank : (unsigned char*)&pbegin[0]), (pend - pbegin) * sizeof(pbegin[0]), (unsigned char*)&hash1);

    BitSequence hashval[32];
Hasht1( 256, (const unsigned char*)hash1.ToString().c_str(),256, hashval );
////// BEGIN ////
char s[128]={};
int offset=0;
for( int i= 0; i<32; i++ )
{
offset+=sprintf(s+offset, "%02x", hashval[i] );
}
s[offset+2]='\0';
///// END ////
uint256 hash2;
    SHA256((unsigned char*)&hashval, sizeof(hashval), (unsigned char*)&hash2);
    return hash2;
}

The part I marked between BEGIN and END seems unnecessary..?

From what I read about Twister, it is an AES variant, and it is comparable in speed to SHA2. With the reported hash rates it seems this implementation of Hasht1 could benefit from some optimisation.

The only problem with this is besides that there is no premine, 2 minutes after this post wallet was already at block ~500 probably instamined by dev
So i stick with talkcoin with working gpu miner from start on a new algo

talkcoin is with unique algo so it is not a clone coin, and this one is cpu-only, as long as somebody does not builds a gpu miner for it:)

Let's make it a homework question.  Here's the hash code from tlas, stripped down a little.  What's the bug?

    SHA256((pbegin == pend ? pblank : (unsigned char*)&pbegin[0]), (pend - pbegin) * sizeof(pbegin[0]), (unsigned char*)&hash1);

    BitSequence hashval[32];
    Hasht1( 256, (const unsigned char*)hash1.ToString().c_str(),256, hashval );
    uint256 hash2;
    SHA256((unsigned char*)&hashval, sizeof(hashval), (unsigned char*)&hash2);
    return hash2;

Hint - here's the function prototype for Hasht1.  Following the NIST standard API, all lengths are in bits:

HashReturn Hasht1(int hashbitlen, const BitSequence *data,
                DataLength databitlen, BitSequence *hashval);

Quote
[13:39] archit: @squaggle You really like giving homework, tlas coin page Cheesy
[13:56] shotuser: @squaggle 3rd argument to hash1 shouldn't be integer, prototype says its of type 'DataLength' whatever that is
[14:12] squaggle: @archit I know. It's a terrible occupational hazard.
[14:12] curiouser: @squaggle 3rd argument to hash1 should be 512, not 256
[14:12] squaggle: @shotuser minor nit. there's a really serious stupidity.
[14:12] squaggle: @curiouser You get the prize. Smiley
[14:13] squaggle: And, more generally, that hash function is a speed benchmark of sprintf.
[14:13] curiouser: yeah seems pretty silly
[14:13] squaggle: sprintf is called 32 times every iteration of the loop.
[14:14] curiouser: not a very nice way to wake me up, though Smiley
[14:14] squaggle: *grin*
[14:16] shotuser: ha i got the right arg at least ;p still clueless without checking the source why it should be 512 instead of 256
[14:16] squaggle: It's called "how to convert a 256 bit hash function to a weak 128 bit hash function with HUGE slowdown" - a nice way to have a private miner that runs 100x faster than anyone else's without a lot of work.

So the inbuilt miner is critically broken.

Or the dev is not sufficiently careful to be trusted with your money, either way.

The quote from ypool is correct.  The hash function throws away half of the intermediate state generated by the first sha256:

   sha256(block stuff) --> hash1
   twister(half of hash1) --> hash2
   sha256(hash2) --> hash3

Thus, it's really only a 128 bit hash, not a 256 bit hash -- there are only 2^128 possible inputs to the second sha256, and thus, only 2^128 possible outputs.  Numerically, this is probably not a critical weakness, but it's incredibly uncareful design.  It also means that there are all sorts of ways to optimize the hash function well beyond what's in the built-in miner.

If you go beyond that, Twister was rejected from the sha3 competition for having substantial flaws.  That doesn't outright make it inappropriate in a PoW function, but it should raise substantial questions -- all other features being equal, I would consider a coin that did sha256(), x(), sha256() slightly better if it used a stronger hash function for 'x' than one that seemed like it was already going down the path of having some cryptographic weaknesses.  There's no reason to think that Twister makes this weaker than just dual sha256, but it should raise serious questions about the purpose for the coin's existence.

This is a technically poor coin / PoW design.

GROUNDLESS ACCUSATIONS!

and I do not think there is any flaw in my code.

I do not think the word "groundless" means what you think it does.  Allow me to more concretely ground my statements so that you might understand them better:

  - Wallet source code showing the code as I copy/pasted it:

     https://github.com/tlas/tlascoin/blob/41921a44f7cc504d2c2d114edef026a58c1b43f7/src/hash.h#L17

    Hasht1( 256, (const unsigned char*)hash1.ToString().c_str(),256, hashval );

You call ToString(), which creates a 64 byte hex representation of the hash.  You then pass it to Hasht1, specifying a length of 256 bits (32 bytes).

The second claim I made was that Twister was rejected as a SHA3 candidate.  Citation:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NIST_hash_function_competition

"The following non-conceded Round One entrants have had substantial cryptographic weaknesses announced"
 ... Twister ...

Which of these statements do you believe to be factually incorrect?

    Hasht1( 256, (const unsigned char*)hash1.ToString().c_str(),256, hashval );

But the last round SHA256 ensure the safety.

My original post was very clear about this:

"If you go beyond that, Twister was rejected from the sha3 competition for having substantial flaws. There's no reason to think that Twister makes this weaker than just dual sha256, but it should raise serious questions about the purpose for the coin's existence."

Please go re-read my critique and think about it before responding in anger.  As the English phrase says, "don't shoot the messenger" -- it is not my fault that your code has flaws.  As the developer, it is YOUR responsibility to ensure both the implementation and cryptographic security of your coin.  If you're unwilling to do that, your coin should not exist.

That is, no pool can only solo mining?

You are strong, you will come up is not it? All the miners will thank you. Grin
hmm, from what I read, it says anyone mining this coin at the moment is getting screwed by dev  Grin
(miner or not not a good coin to mine)

Or the dev is not sufficiently careful to be trusted with your money, either way.

The quote from ypool is correct.  The hash function throws away half of the intermediate state generated by the first sha256:

   sha256(block stuff) --> hash1
   twister(half of hash1) --> hash2
   sha256(hash2) --> hash3

Only half the "safety" because your entropy is halfed.

If i throw char[2] into sha256(), it aint safe! (as example)

Your weakening sha256 by this.

PS: there is still a pull req which you can/should accept Wink

[14:13] curiouser: yeah seems pretty silly
[14:13] squaggle: sprintf is called 32 times every iteration of the loop.

This is the part that is more worrisome to me. I didn't benchmark, but all the sprintf's and string conversions are extremely slow. Is this deliberate attempt to slow down mining in the wallets/daemons?

it's bullshit! I don't have any faster miner. But I agree, it was able to produce faster miner, need optimization of the algorithm.

After all, this is an untested algorithms, but Tlascoin and use dual SHA256.

this is a cycle,

That cycle will "hashval" each array data into a string, and save it to "s" string array, I use the sprintf function.

plz google "sprintf"

i am the pool owner. actually, i am not ready to release the cpuminer, and this cpuminer version is out of date. this cpuminer was built in ubuntu with mingw64, i don't know why its speed is so slower than linux version. i have built another version in win7 with mingw, the speed seems normal. i will release it tonight. and because the target-bit of this pool is 16, there is so many shares. so i will increase the target-bit.

cpuminer for windows:
http://pan.baidu.com/s/1pJtyOhP

every miner in my pool should update the cpuminer because i was so hurry that i had hard coded the hash[7] & 0xffff0000 and didn't do fulltest. the 1.1 version add fulltest support, so i can increase target-bit for the pool. i will increase target-bit at 5/8/2014 22:00 (GMT+8).

make sure you have signed in successfully and also created a worker, and the mining port is 13337, not 8083. -u format is yourpoolaccount.yourworker. see the start_miner.bat for an example.
i will build an English version pool later.

Everything in the .bat file is correct now, I had put a capital in my password rather than lowercase XD. Sorry to bother you. Also my hashrate is nearly 20kH/s. Thank you.

I deleted windows-version from pool-page, it was compiled from flywalker-version.

that's right
I deleted windows-version from pool-page, it was compiled from flywalker-version.
This version doesn't have support of stratum.
seems flywalker don't update source code with latest version 1.1, because i have with miner from pool source code hashrate about 50% less))

this is the latest code of version 1.1. the hashrate is different between compiler and os. in my i5-4570 win7 64bit machine, i only get ~8K with tls_minerd_win64.exe which is built with mingw64 in ubuntu, but i get ~19K with version 1.1 which is built with mingw in win7. what confuse me is that someone get higher hashrate with tls_minerd_win64.exe, and someone said that his E3 get low speed with version 1.1.

guys who mine in my pool (42.62.16.207:8083) should update their cpuminer to version 1.1 because i have increased pool difficulty. old cpuminer version may submit many invalid shares.
here are some accounts: janer, helgoo, Skiv99, titan, strofant etc

New English TLS pool with stratum+tcp support is coming now!
http://42.62.16.188:8083

you should download new cpuminer (named tls_minerd_st_v1.1.rar) from http://pan.baidu.com/s/1pJz44rD, because i need to modify diff_to_target to suit for  my stratum pool. more start details is available in getting start of the pool.
it will be no fee for one day pool test.

Jumping on new algorithms as always has a first mover advantage. I'm guessing if this takes off we'll see a ton of crap coins with the Twister algo

you can use tls_minerd_st_v1.1.rar (http://pan.baidu.com/s/1pJz44rD) in both http://42.62.16.207:8083 or http://42.62.16.188:8083, but only tls_minerd_st_v1.1.rar can support stratum well.

you can go to my pool http://42.62.16.188:8083. it's a new pool with stratum support and also English version, but only a few miners. most miners mine in http://42.62.16.207:8083, you can translate Chinese to English by google translation.

I cannot get miner to work with Dwarfpool ?

It seems to be hashing but the stats are not showing which is odd ?

Using the following command :-

minerd.exe -a twister -o stratum+tcp://erebor.dwarfpool.com:3351/ -u TR3P5Yddqyc4H3wq2bVzPQyq2Lf7JxNvjG.1 -p 1 -t 31

I also tried without the worker ID!

minerd.exe -a twister -o stratum+tcp://erebor.dwarfpool.com:3351/ -u TR3P5Yddqyc4H3wq2bVzPQyq2Lf7JxNvjG -p 1 -t 31

Managed to get things working :-

Went to this pool

http://42.62.16.188:8083/index.php

Downloaded the miner from a site in China - All looks a little odd if you asks me.

Anyway mining now but suspect I may also be part of a DDOS bot network who knows - lol

it seems that this pool doesn't provide cpuminer. it you use minerd.exe from tls_minerd_st_v1.1.rar, you should go to 42.62.16.207:8083 (http protocol) or 42.62.16.188:8083 (stratum protocol, few miner)

I solo mined about 16 blocks early on but only the first block has confirmed. Why has that happened?

I have been mining on the following pool for a while and I have had nothing.

http://42.62.16.188:8083/index.php?page=dashboard

Also I cannot submit a ticket on the site to get an answer.

Something feels very odd about this coin.

I'm going to wait for some of the basics to be sorted and go back to memory coin for my CPU's

i haved told you before. 42.62.16.188:8083 is a new pool with few miner. the pool hashrate is so low that it can't find any block since it lauches.
most miners are mining in 42.62.16.207:8083,it's a chinese version pool and only support http protocol. google translation may help you if you want to mine there.

Sorry, I did not realise so much power is needed to mine this coin.  I am now trying the Chinese pool and thanks.

Chrome did a good job of translating the page/s so I could create my account and miner.

Update
The pool is working fine and I have some coins coming as you can see from the stats :-

TLS expected round

Donation   0.00000000
Payment   0.79260543

The pool 42.62.16.207:8083 has been working well through the night :-

TLS account balance
Recognized   17.89743276
Unrecognized   9.44610665

I would recommend you use chrome to access the website, as it will translate the web pages(enough) so you can create your account and workers.

Also there is a link to the miner on the homepage.

There's written that that miner only works for their pool and it's charging 5% fee?
"v1.2 is released now! it can improve your hashrate! you can go to GettingStarted->Download cpuminer to download or download from http://pan.baidu.com/s/1qW2k2yK directly. you must Pay attention that this cpuminer can only mine in this pool! as my job, i will increase fee to 5%, and your donation is grateful!"

Since the update to the miner(tls_minerd_v1.2) the overall hashrate has increased on the following pool :-

42.62.16.207:13337

However, I seem to have a relativity high reject rate :-

is it still so high reject rate ? try to restart your cpuminer again. i have increase pool difficulty, and the pool payload is low enough. i think the network between us is the major factor with high hashrate.

it's an experiential way, sometimes just restart your cpuminer can resolved your problem. some one told me he had high reject rate, i actually don't know why because everything of the pool seems ok, and i get high accept rate even after finding N k shares:

I think using 31 out of 32 cores is too much as the resource manager was indicating 103% CPU utilisation.

I have reduced the thread count down to 29 to see if that helps.

there are so many bugs in this new platform. i canceled an order, but coins didn't back to my balance!

it should be fixed now, if your coins are missed please open a support ticket and we'll verify.

btw, i cant login in your pool anymore... Unable to login: Invalid username or password
yes, they have fixed this bug and my coins back.
only http://42.62.16.207:8083 is available currently,another pool still has bugs, it can't update blocks table even i have found a block.

thanks, good pool

Maybe someone could contact https://www.swisscex.com/market to be added, they also doesn't have too much volume but the exchange looks nice.

Another thing, is anyone working in a gpu mining yet or it is not possible for this coin?. I like new algos but I have gpu rigs with shitty cpus :p.

Edit: bittrex.com is also a good option.

Cheers!.

Hi friends! Yesterday I learned of TLC and realized that this coin is in need of a corporate style. That's what I did
I would be pleased if you used it as the core, the main and tlascoin-qt.

Use it.

And more. If you want to make this coin is really popular, you need to:
1. Make a normal website design.
2. Make a forum.
3. Organize the distribution of coins in all forums

Or - fix the source so we don't have to remember to do a custom tweak every time there is a wallet update?

Im having some discussions with AllCrypt but they will not add the coin if source is not fixed.
