It seems FCN is currently trading at very low levels, meaning it is very cheap to buy. Go buy some at Bittrex and Poloniex.

There is no pool for this coin yet...
I think that it's a matter of time

For those of you with the time, resources, and knowledge, here's the source code which you can use to make a Fantomcoin pool:

https://github.com/zone117x/node-cryptonote-pool

For me, time is my biggest constraint. But whoever makes the first FCN pool that is well-run, you're going to make some coin  Smiley As you can see from these posts, the need is there. As they say in marketing, "See a need and fill it."

Maybe dev or us should make up a reward like MRO did for catalysing developpement of a FCN pool .

With 80 H/s, it took 3.5 days to find my first block. Then, I found another block less than a day later, then another one in about 3 days, another in a few hours, etc.

It depends on several things such as your hash rate, the network rate and difficulty, and luck. If your hash rate is around 80, you'll most likely find one in less than 4 days...probably sooner.

I get a hashing rate of 60 H/s with Solominer, is it better to mine straight from the terminal? Also, if by accident or whatever I close Solominer without finding a block does that mean all of the work I've done gets lost and I have to star over? thanks for replying.

I get a little faster hash rate straight from the terminal, but then I'm only mining one coin instead of merge mining 2 coins. I'm using minerc in Ubuntu-14.04 instead of Solominer, so my comparison may not match yours...you may get a faster hash rate from Solominer. Just try the Terminal vs. Solominer and compare your rates.

For me, I'd rather merge mine at 5% less hash rate for 2 coins, than solo mine 5% faster for a single coin.

Also, when you're solo mining (which is what merged mining is, although it's solo mining for 2 coins instead of just 1), you won't get any coins in your wallet until you find a block. I'm pretty sure that starting and stopping mining won't cause you to "lose work" because the miner finds a block instead of builds it. Just from my own experience, I have to restart my computer twice a day (long story, nothing to do with mining) and that doesn't seem to have affected anything.

To maybe save anyone some time, its not just a case of updating the cryptonote pool with a different daemon, you will need good coding skills to implement the merged mining Smiley

Sure.
Simply start a fantomcoind and launch mining as usual - using start_mining command - throughout the wallet or in daemon.
Note: don't forget to point out the address if you're starting mining in daemon.

Hey guys,

Recently we’ve talked with bitcoinbear about the marketing of the coin and he made a lot of valid points regarding the coin’s current state.

Unfortunately ATM I don’t have enough time for developing and marketing. I’ll surely visit forum once/twice per day to answer technical questions if there will be any.

So that’s pretty much it, don’t hesitate to contact bitcoinbear in case of any questions and also feel free to help him out. Smiley

Cheers!

I’ll try my best. Merged mining is a great feature and hopefully I will be able to deliver it’s greatness to more and more people.

As the first step in marketing campaign (lol) I would like to ask the community it’s opinion: What would you change/introduce in FCN to make it more valuable?

I’ve made a couple of points in that thread but I would love to hear from you.

Two things that would immediately boost demand for the coin:
1) GUI wallet
2) more user-friendly transferability between exchanges

No, it's just in its early stages. In fact, a new developer (bitcoinbear) joined the original dev (amphibian) this week, so it's growing. A lot goes into a successful coin (development of the main daemon, wallet(s), websites; marketing activities on the social sites, branding, design;), etc. And, when doing something well, it usually takes time. With more personnel on board, that's a good sign.

First GPU miner out for CryptoNote based coins: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=638915.0
This could be the trigger for FCN if we could somehow capitalite on that and draw the GPU crowd in.
