Not much news here lately.

But no wonder there is no news when the whole crypto market is in a bit of chaos. Probably Bitcoin will survive and consolidate terms of its presence in everyday life, but all these interesting experiments like Litecoin, Vericoin, Blackcoin, Viacoin, etc. will disappear and of course Supernet too. No usage for these aforementioned altcoins whatsoever (we discussed in this and other threads lengthy that slightly better functionalities like quicker transaction time, more attractive wallet, etc. mean no real advantage over Bitcoin), users can do fuck all with altcoins, therefore the altcoins must and will disappear. Sorry, I wish I could bring a better news for you my fellow vericoin bagholders :-))

I don't believe they will disappear and certainly not within a year. What I expect is a fire sale with all the BS disappearing (that will account for about 80% of altcoins, probably more). But there will be survivors. Supernet? I don't know. I believe it could be the basket of the surviving ones. But the surviving ones will have to prove they serve a purpose (use and/or storage of value). You are quite right that, so far, only BTC seems to serve both purposes, but that is changing> For instance, there's a project coming up in less than 2 weeks, BRO, that uses the simplest of concepts: Crypto as chips, as in casino-chips. That will be usable from day one. And with a huge amount of customers already using either real chips in casinos everywhere, or money (fiat) as chips, online. Since it will comply with all the laws of the land and it is professionally supported and launched, I am quite sure it will be successful. And will "live" for many years. In the Supernet? I am quite sure James is already on the case.

Other ones such as Vericoin? I don't know. Whatever magic James can continue to invoke, will be the ONLY means of survival of Vericoin, beyond a couple of years, tops. Meanwhile, who really cares? All people in Alts care about is making money not in one year but in one week. Or less. The bags don't help the cause, of course, but still enough come in with some resources to try while the bag holders choose to believe in fairy tales that would invalidate their... bad luck.

You have to understand, I'm sure you do, that this whole shebang is a hobby... and expensive one at that. Most people involved in it have invested in it some decent money through GPUs, asics and the like and, lacking cash, they will point their "miners" to anything at all for as long as any of the 8 decimals turns a numbers, regardless in what amount of time. So the games will continue, every time in smaller scale, with a few players dominating and pushing the tech forward. The rest, more than happy with being also runs... especially if they can be interviewed in youtube every once in a while... or conduct their own thrilling pow wows.

But there's a future for altcoins way beyond one year threshold, no question about it. Especially when the legislative clean up machine comes through.

That BRO project sounds promising. The social and economical potentials in digital currencies are quite enormous in my opinion and anything that proves to the mass public that digital currencies are useful is something that we all should support. I hope the BRO project will succeed and that will help for other currencies to succeed as well. Using digital tokens in gambling sounds a very sensible idea and that would be a straight forward, real world use case.

I could be very wrong about the future of altcoins, we will see. I understand your opinion that legislations are inevitable, you are quite right about that, but I think infrastructure projects top on Bitcoin will be able to comply with the regulations, and therefore we will back to square one, that altcoins won't be able to offer anything what Bitcoin doesn't do already. That legislative requirement could be similar to the transaction speed issue, which was a huge unique selling point for many altcoins, but since Bitcoin can easily address that requirements with green addresses that unique selling point means very little - no wonder altcoins struggle as they provide very little if no advantage over Bitcoin.

I am very sceptical about James' impact on Vericoin. No doubt a man like him who was able to collect a few million $ from altcoin projects is capable to influence the price, but the price is still stagnating and he doesn't even answer your questions. I am not sure what he is doing and hope he will find the the time to answer your questions.

Yeah, I know that's up and running. I think it's a terrible idea. Most people that want to learn about altcoins will come to bitcointalk.org first.

Someone should stick around and chat with the other 98% of crypto coin users Wink

Nope, still here.

@ UK,

YES it is disappointing that James dont answer quite crucial questions of late. Perhapd the reason for the decline in price of late? In any event James absence of this forum will spell doom for vericoin. If he doesnt show up here, singles here we come again....

Nah I believe whst really gets it into motion is the hangouts... they should become a daily ghingy. And at least 2-3 thrilling hiurs in length.. With Kewondo ss MC. And followed bg the radio show and a weekly "Top Ten AT THE END OF THE DAY's" to boot. That would fir sure take the prince back to the 50s in a hurry....

James is very active in the BTCD thread, he's doing heaps of testing of SuperNET. It looks like there's a few people setting up servers to help speed things up, he seems to have sorted it all out on 5 or so. Now its a matter of scaling it up, there is real progress. If I had any complaint about James it would be that he has to many ideas....but hey better to many than none at all

Yeah, I know that's up and running. I think it's a terrible idea. Most people that want to learn about altcoins will come to bitcointalk.org first.

Someone should stick around and chat with the other 98% of crypto coin users Wink

There's really no reason that the two can't co-exists, though. This announcement thread can be used for announcements and follow-up discussion for the general alt-coin community and the drive-by-curious while the official forums can be used for more focused discussions on specific topics.

Back out to the root of the BCT forums and look at all of the forums that are setup for Bitcoin, each chock full of various threads/topics. There are over 30 forums, each dedicated exclusively to bitcoin... and a mere two shared by hundreds of alts, with each alt having the bulk of its discussions reduced to just a single thread.

Yes, bitcoin is much more establish and there's currently significantly more interest in it than there is in any specific alt. If it were reduced to a single discussion thread, it'd be an absolute nightmare trying to find information on specific topics. I'll argue that the same thing applies to any altcoin with a discussion thread spanning more than a hundred pages, though; and we're currently at 840 pages.

Try to find and follow the discussion on the current state of the SuperNet fund in this thread. You'll probably go up to the search box and type in "SuperNet Fund". That will give you three pages of search results with the most recent posts at the top. If you want to follow the discussion in a natural order, you'll start skimming thru the search results until you find one that looks like a good starting point. That may take you back 6 or 7 pages and once you read that post, you may have to skim over a page or two of unrelated posts before you find the next reply. It's messy and frustrating. On the official forums, you can just go to the "VeriCoin Escrow Fund (Gifted from James)" thread and read from the beginning.

Take your own situation as another example. You've been out of the loop for a few weeks and are wondering what's been happening with VeriCoin and hope that someone will summarize things for you (probably so that you don't have to read through pages of discussions to find out). In a well established and properly utilized forum, you can just skim the titles of the active topics to get a feel for what's been going on. The Official VeriCoin Forums are just getting started, but if you skim the titles of the active topics, you'll learn that:

  • The Official Forums have been launched
  • The new VeriCoin Wallet has been released
  • There have been some wallet sync issues
  • There's some discussion about CoinBlab and Circle.com
  • There's some discussion about the SuperNet fund
  • There's a VeriCoin marketing discussion
  • There's a very active discussion about mining hardware

...and you can read about each of those w/o having to wade thru pages of posts related to the others.

TLDR; I think that the official forums are a good idea and ultimately beneficial to VeriCoin. I also think that this thread can continue to serve a useful and necessary function.

Though I don't mind a forum for Vericoin fact is if you ignore this site and other websites to promote your message then your dropping the ball.  Fact is the only way to grow the coin is to promote it to people that have not heard about Vericoin.  If I discovered Bitcoin and crypto currency in the last few days this coin won't be on my rader.  One problem with Vericoin it seems like all information and development is being left for IRC and now the new forum.  How is a new person supposed to discover Vericoin.  Having your own club is nice but it's not going to help get the word of to the masses.

I don't think that, the information is here in the bitcointalk.org and besides that it's also possible to gather information on other web projects. Like Scoot said above, it's a good thing have more than one spot with VeriCoin information and assistance. The main goal isn't a "own club" but the opposite. But to reach more people it's required good and solid projects along with bitcointalk because let's face it, no regular Joe is going to read almost 1000 pages of a continuous thread. Having said that:

http://www.vericoin.info: Main website for Vericoin
http://www.vericoinnews.info: It's the website that works along VeriCoin to bring the fresh news and facts about VeriCoin.
http://www.vericoinforums.com: The place where you can gather information and do research about VeriCoin. Also it's the best place where a user can post a question or problem that he's facing. Aiming to be the core forum for VeriCoin the answers will came quickly and accurate.
http://www.vrcradio.com: Interesting project aiming a different media support, sound waves! This project is great when you can be doing something and you can listen to the hosts and their opinions about VeriCoin and crypto, oh and some music to spice it up.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/vericoin.international/: The official Facebook Group for VeriCoin. It's like VeriCoinNews but social media orientated with the latest news.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/vericoinportugal/: The same as VeriCoin International but translated to Portuguese

So do you still this is a boys club? I don't think so and I guess the grownd flow is taking shape and in the future things will be built upon it.
