good for them.
in my day, i had to make my own fake id to get into the bars.
My parents helped me make my fake id, an altered photocopy of my birth certificate so I could get my first job a few months before legal age. I was eager to have my own money. Imagine someone like me ending up here.

How is it immoral exactly again?
Morality != legality, it might be legal to fuck your mates wife but it is immoral, same thing the opposite. I just don't see how this is bad unless you let the state dictate your morals.

this is a non-news topic
for: 1) fake ID's are common 2) the link to the site providing ID's, does not look like a popular industry standard ID manufacturer, it looks like someones home workshop 3) the hype should be measured inline with a photography student making cards in a school locker room and being outed by the school newspaper..
in short, no big deal in real life international terms

LOL most kids can use photoshop like a pro and make IDs...and before btc they'd use cash to get them. I don't see the headline as anything more than typical bs fear mongering trying to spook people away from bitcoin.

Not quite a morals issue, either. If you fuck your mate's wife, and she had no say, then it's rape, which is illegal. If you fuck your mate's wife and she consented, it's her choice over yours, so it's mostly just unfortunate for you

A more concerning thing for me is the Military getting involved in video games to desensitize children to killing. And throw on that offering college to 18 year old kids after a few years of becoming hired killers. (often times). They should think of raising the minimum age of going in the military to 21, like alcohol. We have bigger worries than fake ID's... IAS

What is the article trying to say? Bitcoin is evil and is only used for shaddy deals?
Well, kids have been using cash to buy fake ids, drugs, guns (list goes on) with cash for decades. So cash is evil too? I think "bitcoin" has become the magic word in journalism. Pick any old story, stick in the magic word and people will read it.

I bought fake ID from adverts in The Viz and HMV using GBP. Once may fake ID even provided the police with my particulars, since I was in no fit state to give them up myself Many thousands of these fake ID's must have been sold and yet the adverts were never stopped, never mind slating GBP over it! It took bloody ages to get those ID's, since money had to be sent using a cheque. Now the lucky wee buggers can send payment in a matter of minutes!

What a piece of crap article. Anyone can run an article based on something that can be bought using bitcoins.
I find it ironic that a non-forgable currency/asset can be used to buy a forgeable ID. I mean come on, the problem here is that ID cards aren't robust enough. By discussing the medium in which is used to purchase said fake IDs only shows that officials accept them as a part of our society.

Not the worst thing they can buy with money. The problem is not in bitcoin, but in their relations with parents and breeding. When I was a kid I didn’t have even a thought of buying beer, in their age id’s are the last thing to think about.

It's awesome. I love these kinds of articles. The kinds of people who read The Atlantic will buy fewer Bitcoins. This is great news for me because, in general, I prefer that those people have as little economic power in the future as possible. On the other hands, a bunch of kids who didn't already know just learned that Bitcoins are immediately useful to them. Bitcoin is winning the hearts and minds of the next generation, while undermining the older generations who've spent their whole lives running up debts and starting wars all over the world.

Jeez, that's smart. Telling people that at first, you could buy it without Bitcoin. Which is certainly obvious. People have been doing it for years, yet, they wrote that to target XBT/BTC? When the article even states you could obviously buy it with fiat?

BTC = Black Swan. BTC = Antifragile - "Some things benefit from shocks; they thrive and grow when exposed to volatility, randomness, disorder, and stressors and love adventure, risk, and uncertainty. Robust is not the opposite of fragile.

The problem is that there aren't enough people selling quality fake IDs.
That is another problem indeed. I've been looking around a bit, they are average quality at best. It's not like you can't really find a person who knows a person that can make these. There are a lot of them going around these days.

At least they are not ordering a contract killer to get rid of their math teacher.
I believe it would cost much more coins than just fake id By the way, i never read an article about contract killers using bitcoin..

You won't find such news, but I'm sure that some would accept bitcoin. One can find all kinds of things (including these IDs) in the 'Deep Web'.

The deep web isn't very cool anyways, I have no interest in anything there anyways. Anything that I am interested in that may be available there I can find legally and from a licensed company.

So what, my cousin bought fake IDs from China using a credit card, you just buy a "toy" and in the toy comes 2 fake IDs. He showed me the whole process and got them pretty quick. BTC isn't some thing that magically allows everyone to start doing illegal things. The illegal things were happening in cash/credit cards before BTC existed. non-story.

Actually the deep web is much better than this one, much more interesting but dangerous as well.

Children will be Children. It could be worse.
Agreed and bad journalists will be... well you know. News headline of century:
"Before bitcoins came about, kids were buying fake ID with cash". Very surprising, right??
Isn't it funny how such an obvious fact is overlooked by the media in this case. They would love to act like all of a sudden kids stopped using the dollar and their buying all the fake id's, lol.

Wow kids are using bitcoin for fake IDs?! Adults, grown men in suits use fiat to fund bank heists and fund wars that wreck nations and threaten the economy. When THEY are in prison, then I'll worry about a kid getting a fake ID.

The thing is that you can find someone to sell you almost anythng online. Is it because of the anonymity bitcoin offers? I don't think so! Bitcoin's anonymity is partial, realy few people use the appropriate tools to be fully anonymous with it. There are several other payment processors that provide anonymous transactions and are used for fraud too. Why put the blame on bitcoin when there are registered companies that profide the same tools to fraudsters and also in a larger volume?
Few examples would be Perfect money and Payeer. Top e-currency payment processors used for controversial transactions and money laundering.

Of course. They're saving their greenbacks for the hardcore drugs they buy on the street. The cause is not the coin, it's a lack of guidance and support through good parenting.
I agree to most of this, it doesn't matter if they do it with cash or with bitcoins as those are just currencies, but it's people's nature's and teaching that determine these.

Poor parents are always the ones that are so quick to blame everyone but themselves for their children's decisions and actions. They love to point the finger at someone (in this case Bitcoin), and blame bitcoin for their inability to monitor their own kids.
If it wasn't bitcoin they would be buying these with cash anyway. Probably the cash that they obtained from selling the pills out of these same parents medicine cabinets.
