I've been trying various ways to buy BTC for the last few hours, and none of them seem to work:
TradeHill: Paxum thinks my card is too "high risk", dwolla is US only, OKPAY is down
Intersango: None of the deposit options seem to work.
MtGox: Nope.
virwox: I'm not downloading some freaking game just to transfer money
Direct bank transfers require an ID, passport, blood sample, retinal scan, anal probing and a complete copy of your genetic code (in the form of a dirty limerick).
Having to go through 5 different middlemen who all take a cut would feel somewhat like missing the point.

The ironic part is that the more frustrating this endeavor becomes, the more convinced I am that Bitcoin will catch on.

Never bought any before. Is the following accurate:
I buy a gift card, it is sent to someones e-mail address, they check/verify/redeem it, they send me BTC?

I'd want proof that whoever I'm trading with is trustworth, but unfortunately I can't really provide any such proof myself since I have not been involved in any prior bitcoin purchases.

Why are so many people willing to accept amazon gift cards for BTC anyway? Can they be redeemed for cash?
How many btc are you looking for?
$1500 worth.
At the current rate of $6ish/BTC, that's about 250BTC.

Try btc-e.com though i have no idea what the limit is. If it goes through LiqPay then limit is ~$140
Keep doing transaction after transaction til it reaches $1500? :S

I recommend memory dealers, though you do pay a premium over mtgox prices:
