1) Can you ship to USA? If not free, what would be the price? 2) Could you take a picture against a blank sheet of paper? If you don't have those in Australia then possibly on a table (or something clean/white with no color, or little color change).

Got the stone. It even came in a nice little box with a handwritten letter attached. The amount of work Dave puts into this is truly admirable. Will buy from him again

Dave, I have a question. I was browsing through ebay searching for koroit opals. How come there's such a huge price discrepancy - from 20$ to a few thousand $?

I'll give you a hint- rarity!!! And quality is also a huge factor. Crystal cores tend to bring more money, and obviously the more color you see in the opal the better. Also it is hard to judge by a picture so know your dealer, and know the return policy!
I know it's a lousy answer but the more of them you own the more you will understand. Reading about stones helps as does seeing them in person, like at gem shows.

Thanks for the reply. I get it. I had no idea there could be such a huge price range, that seemed extremely weird to me.

No problem! Most colored gemstones are like this. You can buy a one-carat glass-filled ruby of low quality for $20. You can also spend $25,000 or more for a one-carat ruby if it is "pigeon's blood" red color and superior clarity and cut an totally untreated.
