Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

I hate the slow network sync, but not sure if this is exclusive to the Mac. Maybe it helps it run more smoothly. Otherwise I like it. I don't see it as a major improvement, besides the in-client encryption. However, if someone wanted to steal your coins, couldn't they bypass the encryption and go straight for the wallet.dat?

I have the Bitcoin client on my Mac and network syncs do take time.  The network syncs are slow because the client has to verify every block and its transactions. This is not a Mac-only thing.

However, if someone wanted to steal your coins, couldn't they bypass the encryption and go straight for the wallet.dat?
The wallet itself is encrypted.  How would you bypass its encryption?

Did you wait for the 6 confirmations? (approx 1 hour)
Where did you send BTCs from?
