Would you mind sharing the price the 0.1 coin sold for?  I have several of these I would considering selling, if the price was outrageous enough.  Wink

I sold one of the graded 1/10 Silver Casascius coins for .75 BTC.  I got them from OgNasty's group buy and my cost before grading was .55 or so I believe  Shocked

Too many?  Are your Silvers graded?  The Gold B coin is actually  more scarce (700 vs 1300) than the silver ones.  I am really looking to sell these outright at the moment.

True there are less of the Gold BTC, but when sold the all silvers did cost a lot more too.

Maybe a little wiggle room on that one.  I do have an ungraded one that I could sell for less.  Don't think it would get an MS65, but it is still pretty and loaded.  Grin

I do think that It isn't the time to sell any coins.

There are not so much buyers now.

Even on eBay sales tend to go lower than retail value of the coin.

I would not sell any coin at a loss, and loss is the retail (not BTC) value.

I have won several recently with 10-15% mark-up (brass), which is even lower Casascius sold them for.

You should wait till the next run-up. When new buyers come, demand decreases supply and increases pricing.

Of course if this is an option for you.

I just really don't think that someone could have too much of these coins;)

I've read at least 10 stories like this before. Don't get caught up in the moment. Scammers watch the threads carefully looking for any opportunity that can make them something. Always make sure to double check, I think Yankee may even sign his messages with a PGP key but not sure. Regardless, sorry for the loss, but take it as a lesson and you'll be guaranteed not to make the same mistake again Smiley

Sorry to hear about this.  If the deal looks too good to be true, it may be a scam.  A buyer also tried to scam me to send the coins with a fake escrow.
Also it is usually advisable to make your offers via PM directly to the user in addition to the thread and be diligent in your vetting of the users.  Good escrow providers will GPG sign their escrow agreements and payment addresses so you can validate that it is actually them and not a fake or hacked forum account.

I think it is more of people looking to lowball offers hoping to find a desperate seller.

I have a current deal pending escrow on the 1 BTC and .5 BTC Graded silver coins.

According to this analysis of funded addresses, it appears that the Gold/Silver 1 BTC coins are more rare than originally communicated.

How "cleaned" is the holo? if you can ask such a question. Has the holo print been "cleaned" away, or has it just been wiped with a cloth?

The holo shortcode printing is not longer visible.  I am the one who cleaned it when I first got the coin.  I have pictures before the cleaning.  This was my 1st 2011 s1 coin and I didn't realize how easily the shortcode is removed off the holo sticker.

Good luck with the sale Smiley

This will surely set the market value for such a coin. It looks to be in amazing condition and my guess would be that it's worth upwards of 2 BTC at the least. Good luck with your sale, there's a chance I might throw out an offer.

Obviously not selling for less than 1BTC since I could just peel it.

Interesting story from the ebay seller about the coin.  He was selling it for his girlfriend who received it as a part of a tip when she was working in a bar in Austin, TX in 2012.

Just wanted to give someone a chance to have one of these at a discount price since all have been selling for the 3-7 BTC range.  Still a piece of history.

I've been gone for a few weeks, though I'd check in with the Casacius Crew (yes I spelled it with an error because we're all as valuable as those error coins, ha).

What's new with the Casascius coins? Has buyer demand gone to the moon? Is Mike still not producing any? Are the Litecoin versions of the Casascius coin still selling for higher multiples than the most valuable of Casascius coins?

It's good to be back...

Would be interesting exercise to try and get them to mismark a coin slab to see if they are actually accurate in all the designations since it is believed they will mark whatever you want.

Personally I think ANACS should be consistent on what they write on the slap.

Would be interesting exercise to try and get them to mismark a coin slab to see if they are actually accurate in all the designations since it is believed they will mark whatever you want.

Yes, and it would really not be hard for them to have a standard how to designate the coins, maybe not for all cryptocoins but at least for casascius.

It could also be interesting to open a slap and resubmit the coin to see if it gets the same grade.

Cryptography is one of the few things you can truly trust.

I would be very surprised if you sell that 0.5 coin for 16 BTC Grin.

It is a difficult coin to find due to its low mintage and I believe it is the only graded coin of its kind.  It also received a nice high grade.  Most other .5's that I have sent in have scored MS65.

This item is for those collectors that are looking to collect a keep a high-grade full silver set of these original highly collectible pieces.  This is the 2nd most rare produced coin in the Casascius series that a non-millionaire can own.  Casascius coins are the original and most famous physical bitcoin and will have historic collectible value for years.

I am open to offers for this or any of my other listed coins!

S2 or S3?  The S2 is a MS66 and the S3 is a MS67

I have not seen a graded S2 offered forsale.  There may be some in private collections, but not forsale.
I have not seen a S3 offered forsale at MS67 yet either.

Collectibles: people like to collect 'em. Who knew. Smiley

EDIT: Incidentally, I've recently come to learn that in addition to the condition ratings (MS-*, etc), you can use the Sheldon Scale for describing rarity:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin_grading#Rarity_factor
http://varietynickels.com/pages/other-numismatic-information/rarity-system.php

The Series-2 0.5 silvers would fall under the R5 category; the next most rare Casascius coin would be the 1000btc gold coin, with a rating of R7. The next most common would be both varieties of 10BTC coin, with a rarity of R3.

There's a 10 LTC Silver MS-68 with an asking price of $1995
MS-64 10 $895

I see singles with MS-66 for $199 but I don't know if they are selling for that much. Even a few ungraded for $99 but again I'm not sure if they are selling at that amount.

Do you have (or are you able to obtain) pgp custody chains for any of these coins? Potentially interested in several of them if so.

No longer buying/selling Casascius coins. Beware scammers.

If the coins are graded, wouldn't the chain be broken in that case? Unless ANACS are willing add to PGP custody chain (which I doubt).

Technically, the chain is broken as soon as Casascius hands the original package to the post office Smiley

Sorry - I do not have custody chain capabilities on all of these coins.  A couple of them *could* be possible since I believe I bought from the original owner.  Send me a pm with the ones you are interested in and I can check on them.

what do the silver/gold 2013 coins go for these days? I was selling at 2.3BTC each a while back but I feel like the value must be creeping up towards 3BTC by now

24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and stripped ends - great for server PSU mods, best prices https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461

The market has cooled off lately.  There are a lot of new coins made by different groups now which may attract collectors, but the original Casascius coin is still the best option long term for collectors. IMHO

Ungraded I would say 2-2.5.

Yeah - the entire point of collectibles is the attachment to history. Collecting is a fundamentally sentimental human affliction.

No other physical bitcoin could be as tightly coupled with the progress of Bitcoin in general as Casascius coins; from inception as an experiment in 2011, to termination due to concerns regarding regulatory overreach from FinCEN. Plus almost every news article between 2011-2014 using a Casascius coin stock image in their story...

That's the kind of history that collectors will want to own a part of down the road. The newer physical bitcoins may have some temporary novelty, but none will ever match the relationship Casascius coins have to the Bitcoin experiment. Look at the history of other coins and collectibles... In the long-run, the story often matters more than the rarity (to a point), and Casascius coins have both.

Bitcoin is the first monetary system to credibly offer perfect information to all economic participants.

This is how bidding on goods works. One person says what they're asking, the other what they're offering and sometimes we meet in the middle. I expect to pay a fair price for the coins, and DJ expects to get a fair price...deciding what's "fair" is the fun part.
