I've been unable to fully download the blockchain. Ive been trying for the past 3 days and I transefered some coins from one wallet on a laptop to a new one on this computer. Everytime I turne off the computer it will say unable to load blkindex.dat but i took adive here from an already posted copy and backed up files then deleted blkindex.dat blk0001.dat.

now today i had to start from 0 and it reached 65% and I left for MMA practice and when I got back it said 145206/163894 and I am currently download 1 block a second or less. it says i have 11 connected peers and the highest its been is 13.  also it says its only 7% complete now...

What can I do to speed this up? If i turn of the computer when it's this close, it might mess up and I'll have to delete it and start all over again.  Any help I wanted to download some new blockchain manually but I here it won't be verified.

also, at the start it was downloading quite faster than this...

Due to the size it has been a bit slow to download, what speed connection are you on

you havent got any torrent software running thats uploading and downloading at same time? if you do close that crap, it usually stays open. Check that

Make sure you're using bitcoin-qt 5.2. The download speed has been significantly improved.
If the issue is caused by dead slow internet connection or a massively underpowered machine (netbook), you'll likely be better off with a thin client.
