My 2 satoshi's worth:

btc-e  (pretty reliable for the most part, unknown people behind it a fairly large concern)
bitstamp (reliable, solid)
cryptsy (has it's issue(s), but best overall place I've found for my alt trades)

Coinarch has just released a Private Beta and is focused on security.  Check out how we're dealing with security here - https://privatebeta.coinarch.com/Info/Security.

Coinarch is not an exchange like the providers mentioned above.  We are an online platform offering innovative trading solutions for Bitcoin.  You can do more than just buy and sell bitcoins at Coinarch.

We are really excited about our Private Beta and would love to hear what you think.  Register your interest at www.coinarch.com and we will send you an invite code.

#1 Cryptsy, never any problems
#2 BTC-E, never any problems
#3 Vircurex, they have been hacked recently, but are paying back all users.

These three, besides being trutworthy also handle orders quick. So if you see a price, you can sell,  and the order is not going to sit forever untill the price is gone, like at coinex.pw, coinedup or any other.

Happy trading!

what is considered wrong with www.btc38.com, I have only had marginal issues over their site since they added an english side to it, and it has not been publicly released yet so I am sure more rocky roads are ahead (down time I think mostly) but other than that, they only have a .001 or .1% per transaction fee, and give you coins when you put them into your wallet, though I think they take them away at the end in percentage, so if you lost money and take out less than you put in, you get to keep some of the coins they give you, but if you make profit and cash out, they take more coins back than they gave you lol.

Bitstamp is good enough and very stable, with all the support you might need there. You can only trade in fiat/btc/ripple/astropay and thats it, no other virtual currencies.

Bitstamp is having a lot of problems for the moment. Id delays widrawals, not sending confirmation mails and a few more. Look it up on the forum.

BTCE has by far the best trading platform/trading engine. Trades go through in real time, no lag. Bitfinex and Bitstamp are super laggy -- big orders sit being executed for 30 seconds or more sometimes!
