Main difference between litecoin and bitcoin is Litecoin will have 84 million coins and bitcoin will max out at 21 million coins.Litecoin uses scrypt where as bitcoin uses sha-256.It's important to also know that LItecoin devs also work on improving bitcoin.There's a reason Litecoin is the number 2 coin.

I suggest holding both bitcoin and litecoin.
