He's one of the few American politicians worth his salt that does anything on behalf of his constituents' liberty and those that are affected by this gubmint. Remember, he made a name for himself (outside the political liberty movement) last year in March by doing a 13hr filibuster over the Obama regime's drone policy. Now, the guy that ultimately drafted that policy is being nominated to be a federal appeals court judge. Roll Eyes Gee, I wonder where he'll stand when anything in federal court is appealed to his jurisdiction. Pro-state on everything. Whether this halt actually succeeds, it'll further showcase Rand's political acumen and solidify his leadership capabilities to all that give a flip about civil liberties and the like.

Sen. Rand Paul intends to take the Senate floor Wednesday to contest the nomination of David J. Barron to be a federal appeals court judge, though it doesn’t appear the Kentucky Republican will halt Barron’s confirmation.

It’s unclear exactly how long Paul plans speak, but staffers around the Capitol are preparing for a late Wednesday session.

The government’s use of unmanned drones to target U.S. citizen is the same subject that prompted last year’s the #standwithrand filibuster of John O. Brennan’s nomination to be CIA director. Barron wrote memos justifying the Obama administration policy when he served as acting assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel.

“I rise today to oppose the nomination of anyone who would argue that the President has the power to kill American citizens not involved in combat,” Paul plans to say on Wednesday, according to an excerpt from his office. “I rise today to say that there is no legal precedent for killing American citizens not directly involved in combat and that any nominee who rubber stamps and grants such power to a President is not worthy of being placed one step away from the Supreme Court.”

The extended Paul floor speech won’t be a filibuster, really. In fact, the Senate may well have agreed to a time limit on the debate before he speaks.

Update:
AP Sources: Justice Dept. to Reveal Drone Memo
Quote
By NEDRA PICKLER Associated Press
WASHINGTON May 21, 2014 (AP)

On the eve of a critical Senate vote, the Obama administration signaled it will publicly reveal a secret memo describing its legal justification for using drones to kill U.S. citizens suspected of terrorism overseas.

Two administration officials told The Associated Press that the Justice Department has decided not to appeal a court order requiring disclosure of a redacted version of the memo under the Freedom of Information Act. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

The decision to release the documents comes a day before the Senate is to vote on advancing President Barack Obama's nomination of the memo's author, Harvard professor and former Justice Department official David Barron, to sit on the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., had vowed to attempt to block Barron's confirmation with a filibuster if the documents were not made public. Paul issued a statement Tuesday saying he still opposes Barron's nomination.

...

Until now, the administration has fought in court to keep the writings from public view. But administration officials said that Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. has decided not appeal an April 21 ruling requiring disclosure by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York and that Attorney General Eric Holder concurred with his opinion.

The release could take some time, since the redactions are subject to court approval. And the administration also is insisting that a classified ruling on the case also be redacted to protect information classified for national security, but not the legal reasoning, one of the officials said.

Depending on how things go tomorrow, another media win for Rand is likely. It would almost be the holy grail to get on Fox and say he made the O regime back down. On most cases the regime just does what it wants but they must fear an appeals court forcing their hand anyway. Developing...

Rand Paul seems to be the only sane face in the contest for the POTUS 2016. More than anyone else, it is the American public who needs Paul to win this election. In case he wins, the budget deficit and public debt will be lowered, and the American war machine will be put to rest.

I admire his conviction and tenacity, but sadly I doubt this us going to do any good, but I'm glad he's standing up. I think he's going to create some pretty powerful enemies though if he keeps this up.

Rand Paul obviously hates America and wants Iran to invade our shores.

It is a good thing Ron Paul did not win or we would all be speaking Iranian right now.

WTF man? Seriously? This is exactly the problem with the American public. No one in their right minds would think that Iran has the capability or desire to invade the US. On the otherhand, it is the US which is invading all the third world nations to secure their natural resources.

But if the Americans try to invade their country, then they'll fight back tooth and nail. Have no doubts about that.

But I thought they only hated us because of our freedoms. Surely the anti American sentiment throughout the world has nothing to do with the fact that we are blowing a bunch of people up every single day.

Just like Michelle Bachman tells us all in this clip that Iran is 1 year away from nuking us. Fortunately Fox News attacked Ron Paul just as he was gaining steam or we would have been nuked. Ron Paul's poll numbers were just starting to show that he was the frontrunner. This debate alone put us all back in our place on how we should fear Iran and elect Mitt Romney. Close call.

They hate us for our freedoms. So the best way to stop that is to take away our freedoms. They are doing a very good job of it.

Michele Bachmann is another war crazy Republican politician. Their arguments are just laughable. Even if Iran want to nuke the USA, how they are going to do it? They don't even have any long range missiles.

I used to think she had some sense back around the 2007-8 days when she was studying Austrian economics and was part of Ron Paul's weekly liberty hangout group in DC. She even had him come to the University of Minnesota and hosted some summit with both of them on stage but her behavior during the last Presidential primary was pathetic. It was clear that she and the string of other 'anti-establishment' candidates such as Cain, Gingrich, Perry, etc were just placeholders to keep any momentum building w/ Ron until Romney could eventually wrap it up. I'm sure they'll do the same against Rand if he runs but he's building a broader coalition including lots of establishment donors to go w/ our liberty base. I just hope Sen Cruz is on the up and up and isn't trying to peel off conservative support from Rand and then the establishment can rally around Bush, Christie or Ryan and outlast us. The early voting states look good for us so far and Rand has been making the rounds speaking to the state parties all over the country lining up part officials support and donors.

Hopefully this is the cycle that the liberty movement takes the lead. Enough with the establishment candidates and the Bachmann whacko types.

According to the latest opinion polls, Cruz is trailing behind the big five (Paul, Huckabee, Bush, Christie, and   Ryan) by wide margins. I think that he will drop out of the race soon.

Yeah, the evangelicals love them some Huckabee something fierce and he's likely to present a challenge to Rand in Iowa out of the gate. There's so much on that guy to show what a fraud conservative he is and was but the flock keeps the ostrich routine going. I just know that Cruz is really loved by the hardcore conservatives that listen to Mark Levin and follow Mama Grizzly and he is more likable over Rand because Rand stakes out different territory in nuanced ways on things such as immigration, minority outreach and such to appeal in a general election setting. The main thing his dad had against him was the unelectable meme which Rand has clearly been messaging himself by doing cartwheels w/ key rhetoric that can thread the needle on foreign policy issues to keep the neocons on the ropes and not allow them and their minions in the media to demagogue him on even though his end goal is similar in nature to what Ron spoke of.

Let's get some things straight. Anarchism is the same thing as libertarianism. This is how most people around the world see it. We have something called "libertarianism" here in the U.S. (and some other countries), which I call "fake libertarianism." These include members and supporters of the so-called "Libertarian" Party, Ron Paul supporters, and many people who are actually conservatives. A true libertarian, or anarchist, is opposed to states, governments and Capitalism. They don't want a smaller state, which is what the fake libertarians want, they want no states nor governments.

Libertarianism at its core is about the sovereign individual. It holds that the one true mission of any government is to make people free.

You can argue about what being a libertarian truly means, but the main stream liberty movement is not anarchist and certainly not socialist in nature.
