I think the blockchain is roughly 3Gb?
With most connections, it can take 6-12 hours.

stop everything which is using bandwith besides bitcoin and it will go faster  Smiley

Perhaps a lightweight client like Electrum or a Javascript-based client (e.g., My Wallet from http://BlockChain.info/wallet ) would be an alternative you might wish to consider?
