Hi all,

I'm using Bitcoin core (9.1.0).
I've made a transaction of 0.17. I don't why but no fees was added. Very strange since i didn't touch it in the panel option.
Now the transaction is unconfirmed and I don't know what to do.
Will the transaction be made ? More slowly ?
Is it possible to add fee to a already sent transaction ?
Unfortunately it's quite urgent Sad
Thank you in advance for your help

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Will the transaction be made ?

Almost certainly.

More slowly ?

Probably

Is it possible to add fee to a already sent transaction ?

Not easily.

You might try looking into Peter Todd's replace-by-fee-tools, specifically bump-fee.py for an alternative.

Unfortunately it's quite urgent Sad

Then send a second payment (with a fee), and request a refund for the first payment.

If you want to make sure that Bitcoin Core always includes a fee, change the default fee in "Preferences" to 0.0001 BTC.

Still unconfirmed at that time and 5 hours have been passed.
How long is the average transaction time for transaction without fee (need 3 confirmations) ?

according to the blockchain.info :
Quote
Estimated Confirmation Time    Within 6 Blocks (Medium Priority)

within 6 blocks - I would say in next ~3-5 hours Wink
Next time to make it easier don't forget to add a minimum fee.

Regards.

May be. May be not.

No. It will be not the *same* transaction.

But it is possible to send another transaction with the same inputs and non-zero fees.
It is not very trivial and requires *any* backup of your wallet.dat before you sent this transaction.

Is the address 1LKtSutJ6xufD38WnyJrZGH2ihzYDoaEAM yours?
If yes - continue. If no - stop here and think what are you doing

1. Shut down the bitcoin-qt
2. Backup your current wallet.dat file (not required, but why not to do it?)
3. Restore from your yesterday backup
4. Start bitcoin-qt
5. Ensure that the wallet does not show transaction d5c9a2f585f2931eae8d5b95800a783000fe733a4af071b0b6e71b4006a9ec35
and balance is greater than 0.17 but less than 0.34
6. Send another 0.17 to 1LKtSutJ6xufD38WnyJrZGH2ihzYDoaEAM but add a fee

If you have more than 0.34 on your balance the steps should be slightly different

1. Shut down the bitcoin-qt
2. Backup your current wallet.dat file (not required, but why not to do it?)
3. Restore from your yesterday backup
4. Start bitcoin-qt
5. Ensure that the wallet does not show transaction d5c9a2f585f2931eae8d5b95800a783000fe733a4af071b0b6e71b4006a9ec35
6. Create one incoming address.
7. Send all your funds to your new address. Do not forget about fee.
8. Wait 6 confirmations
9. Send another 0.17 to 1LKtSutJ6xufD38WnyJrZGH2ihzYDoaEAM from your new address, add a fee.

Regards.

I dont know where blockchain.info gets that estimation, but TX's without fees can take a week (and probably even longer) to get the first confirmation. After that its a matter of blocks beeing found.

I think they use the "age" of the input for the priority which is usually fine if you pay a fee. On the other hand your TX is usually in the next block if you pay a fee anyway.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

But if fee rate is different from Preferred rate how do this will be treated. ??

There are a lot of free transactions in https://blockchain.info/ru/block-index/437781/0000000000000000004cb1c957cb222381f13848965ba2797c583e9f34521a8c
Much more than other miners usually include.

Hi all !

Thank you for your explications !
The only thing that preoccupied me is why is it possible to send tx without fee. The interest of the bitcoin is the rapidity of the tx. Base fee is 0.0001 which is very low. I don't see the point.
Btw, if I set higher fee than the base one. Will my tx be faster than one with base fee ?

No. 0.0001 per kilobyte is quite enough fee to be included into the nearest block
The fee was lowered in 0.9.x miners and sometimes 0.00001 is also enough. But the delay (usually less than an 1 hour) is possible in this case

But you may set any higher fees to support miners  Grin
