Before I get rid of some old hard drives, I wanted to make sure I wasn't throwing away any coins I might have forgotten about.
How do you search on your computer/wallets to make sure zero coins are left?

In order to get the maximum amount of activity points possible, you just need to post once per day on average. Skipping days is OK as long as you maintain the average.

I imagine you'll just have to search for the wallet.dat files. I'd check any known old addresses on the blockchain as well just in case.

Yeah, I did a search for wallet.dat files, and a bunch of "Video CD movies" show up  About 11 different coins show up - what ever happened to Feathercoin? How do you open them to see if anything is inside? |

Yeah, I did a search for wallet.dat files, and a bunch of "Video CD movies" show up There are tons of files that are stored in .dat format. If you do a search solely for "wallet.dat" that should be all that you find. |

How do you open them to see if anything is inside? You need to put them into the corresponding folders for each different coin client which you probably already have them there if you didn't move them. |

Check your /user/*username*/AppData/Roaming folder for any coin folders that may have wallets. Also search your entire drive for "wallet.dat" files |

look for .dat files in your computer. Will return many others results that are not coins, so take some time.
look manually on places that you would put your coins.Dont forget to enable show hidden folders

You should look for your private keys (format is .key) too if you have a backup of them. Just search for *.key to get all your private key backups.

Back up the drive onto cloud? or atleast the wallet dat file, so incase something does happen you are good to go.

A good way to do this is to run backup software on your computer, and create a folder for your wallets. For example, do this: Wallets Wallets/BTC/wallet.dat Wallets/FTC/wallet.dat This makes it easy to keep up with all of them, and organizes them. |

Apart from searching "wallet.dat", you should also try searching the wallet file name used by other wallet clients just in case (for example, "default_wallet" for Electrum and ".wallet" for Multibit.
