Who is working on it?
Xploited is our dev, dooglus is involved aswell I think and general community psyhic support.

Registered, sent some Clams there (fortunately, complete sync is not required for sending) and invested them. Works flawlessly, profits already covered the transaction fee Grin

Oh yeah it's pretty neat, and centralization has been declining, there is more sites staking.

Hi everyone,
i want to give staking a try, basically just for fun (with the amount of CLAMS I own, it takes probably a few years before i get lucky Smiley )
Nevertheless, I have some questions.
1.) Does the age of the coins make any difference (does it matter if a coin is one day old or three years old?)
2.) Does the performance of the PC used make difference
3.) Does the Operating System and the version of CLAM in use ("Commandline" vs. GUI) make a difference?
4.) Do i have to open and forward some ports in my router (like running a node in Bitcoin Core?)
5.) General advice for Staking (apart from having a huge amount of CLAM Cheesy)?

Thank you to anyone helping me.

I made an updated bootstrap.dat file for people having trouble syncing their client.

It goes up to block 1852000 which was staked on Mon Jan  8 20:13:52 UTC 2018.

It's available as a download here:

  bootstrap.dat

or as a torrent here:

  bootstrap.dat.torrent

Download it, put it into the same folder as your CLAM wallet.dat, then restart the client.

If you are using the QT client, it will say "importing blocks" in the lower left corner while the bootstrap.dat file is imported. That is how you can tell that the file is being used.

It will take a while to import it, but it will be a lot faster than trying to sync using the p2p network.

When it is done, the client will rename the file to bootstrap.dat.old and won't look at it again.

Once it has been renamed you can delete it if you like.

To verify that you have the right file:

Quote
$ sha256sum bootstrap.dat
04d469e0dcac7c300f28d9c028637d95d5d43a0c961e63ef7a35ba80d45d0155  bootstrap.dat

Edit: I also made a series of 'partial' bootstrap files. Each one contains the block data for 10,000 blocks.

  https://s3.amazonaws.com/dooglus/bootstrap-000.dat is blocks 0 through 9999
  https://s3.amazonaws.com/dooglus/bootstrap-001.dat is blocks 10000 through 19999
  https://s3.amazonaws.com/dooglus/bootstrap-002.dat is blocks 20000 through 29999
  etc.

I'll add a new one for each new set of 10k blocks. Currently they go up to bootstrap-184.dat

So if you already have everything up to block 492123 and want to get up to date, download the -049, -050, etc. files, append them all together in order into bootstrap.dat in the same folder as your CLAM wallet.dat and restart the client.

In Windows you can append the files together by running "cmd", and using something like:

Code:
copy /b bootstrap-*.dat bootstrap.dat

In Linux the command would be:

Code:
cat bootstrap-*.dat > bootstrap.dat

thx for your help.

How can I change the storage path of the blocks?  I need to put them on another HDD

From what I experienced, I don't think #1 and #3 make a difference.  For #2: I suspect, though I am not really sure, that it is your network performance that will play a difference.  Perhaps someone can pitch in.

But regardless, staking on your own involves waiting for a period of time before you'll stake something -- this "time" is not uniform, meaning you may experience a drought and not get anything for a long time, and then you'll get a bunch in a rather small amount of time. (The other option will be placing your coins in a staking pool, though I don't thank that is not on your questions above.)

For #4: I didn't do any tweaking, though as I understand, you'll want to be careful in terms of security, as your wallet will be open all the time and you wouldn't want security to be compromised.

Perhaps some others can add more info. All the best.

When I use Shapeshift to convert clams, it will result in a message "Your clams was sent. See it on the blockchain".

Clicking on that link will lead to a site clamsight.com, but is that site down for a while?  Perhaps someone should contact shapeshift to change the location to another site like khashier?

Or is clamsight only temporarily down?

Thank you for answering! Would be indeed interesting to know if Network Latency has any influence. I'd tend to say no because of the 1 Minute block times, but maybe I'm missing something.
Another question: Is it possible to stake from a multisig address? This would increase security i guess.

Go back about four posts and read about the easy way to download using the bootstrap files.

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

Congratulations! 20 weeks took me about a day to sync! If you're using the windows client ... I had to restart the client several times to complete the sync.

Is it normal to clam client have only 2 connections?

And has anyone else had a problem withdrawing the clams from the exchanges (poloniex, yobit)?

Cheers,

just found out i have 100s of clams, but the wallet takes forever, been on 20 weeks left for hours
Congratulations! 20 weeks took me about a day to sync! If you're using the windows client ... I had to restart the client several times to complete the sync.
Is the 100s of clams reward for 20weeks holding clams?

In order to claim clams you have to own the private key to a BTC, LTC or DOGE address that held a balance on May 12th 2014.

That is more than 20 weeks in the past...

You get 4.60545574 CLAM per address so MrPiggles must have over a couple dozen or so addresses from that time that contained BTC, LTC or DOGE in order to claim "hundreds" of CLAM.

I currently have 24 connections.  Have not tried to use polo or yobit lately.

Yes.  "Many" I got for free and I also purchased some when they were very low.
