Staking doesn't start untill block 10,000. We're only at 3755.

WTF?  What is happening now then, POW with zero reward?
We're already up to 3788. At this rate, you can start staking for profit in 3 months!

I'm not sure why you think PoW has to end before PoS will start...nobody said that
ThePeeps said: "Staking doesn't start untill block 10,000."
I merely observed that staking won't start for about 3 months at the current rate.
I'm not sure why you think I said PoW had to end. Nobody said that.

Just to be clear...you can stake anytime. The 10,000 PoW blocks are just to keep the network moving faster while people wait for their coins to mature. After block 10k, it will be purely PoS

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of these 10,000 zero-reward POW blocks to "keep the network moving faster." A block is a block, POS or POW.  As long as someone has some coins staked somewhere, and the wallet is correctly minting POS blocks, the network is moving - POW is not needed.

It will be weeks before we hit block 10,000 at the rate things are moving right now.  That means no POS reward for those of us trying to stake our coins right now.

And how exactly are these POW blocks being mined right now anyway?  What algo are the POW blocks?  Hardcoreminers is the only pool I'm aware of and they are on the old wallet.  Are we all expected to solo-mine for nothing until block 10k so we can all generate POS?

I feel like you are screwing with us. OK, yes, we can stake, but staking for 0 reward is the same as not staking.

PoW Reward is currently 0 until block 10,000, at which point the network will go completely to Proof of Stake

You can start staking now

Proof of Work has nothing to do with staking. I can't explain it any simpler. Not to be rude, but I think you guys need to read up

I completely understand the difference between POW and POS.  So are you saying the network is producing POS blocks right now alongside the POW blocks?

Can anyone else confirm that they have received a non-zero POS reward block from the wallet yet.  I sure haven't and my wallet has been open since 8/4.  What is the minimum stake age?

If you can "stake" now - show me a POS block in the block explorer.  I only see POW blocks with zero reward.

For the fifth time...YES

Since you say you know how PoS works, then you understand that just because you are eligible to stake, doesn't mean you will right away. But you already knew that, right?

So, if I receive MMXIV to my wallet, and my wallet is unencrypted and left open and running, how long after receiving my coins should I expect before my coins will stake?  You're saying this will not occur until block 10,000?

To be fair I don't think you ever said it that explicitly, but being a noob I didn't understood that either. It seems several in this forum are confused, so it is the fault of the forum users that we don't understand how this coin works?

I have had my client open since 8-4 also and have not received any POS rewards.

Really? I haven't answered that question yet?

Staking doesn't start untill block 10,000. We're only at 3755.

WTF?  What is happening now then, POW with zero reward?
We're already up to 3788. At this rate, you can start staking for profit in 3 months!

I'm not sure why you think PoW has to end before PoS will start...nobody said that

Just to be clear...you can stake anytime. The 10,000 PoW blocks are just to keep the network moving faster while people wait for their coins to mature. After block 10k, it will be purely PoS

PoW Reward is currently 0 until block 10,000, at which point the network will go completely to Proof of Stake

Can you or someone explain to a noob like myself what that means at a macro level to a miner like myself? According to block explorer we are on block 3312. If I start mining MMXIV now I get nothing until the block number reaches 10k? And then what does it mean (to me) when it goes complete PoS?

PoS is active right now. You can stake as I type this. We put in 10,000 blocks of PoW with 0 reward to keep the network moving during the swap to the new chain. After block 10k, the network will only be secured by PoS, not PoW

Explorer / Rich List / Stats are now on the new chain

http://mmxiv.blockexplorer.cc

In my opinion, still the best explorers  Wink
All of the addresses in the rich list start with 1 (old wallet address).
The graph still shows 99.95% of the coin has been mined. Is that true?

Addresses are wrong, graph is right
So then there really is no reason for anyone to mine MMXIV, correct?

PoW Reward is currently 0 until block 10,000, at which point the network will go completely to Proof of Stake

You can start staking now

Are you sure I haven't answered the same question, multiple times, with the same answer? Are you really sure?

Perhaps we could lower PoS difficulty to kick start it, but it is active right now. I can't make it any clearer and won't even bother answering that question anymore

If POS is being generated right now - what is the min stake age, and where are the POS blocks in the block explorer?  Show me one.

I just pushed it 500 blocks forward with POW (Took 6~7 minutes of POW for 500 blocks). I'll push it another ~1000 in a couple of hours from now. Now it's on block 4399

While it may be clear now (although I'd still like to see the answer to Mortimer's questions), the way it was discussed with terse "half-answers" over several messages in the forum was not clear to several people and I don't think it was our fault for misunderstanding. The OP (still) says nothing about this other than "Pure Proof of Stake, 2 Minute Blocks, 50% Yearly." The main web page is suspended again so I can't check to see what it says there. "You can stake now or anytime" does not mean that a reward is actively being paid or available, especially in light of discussion of "0 reward blocks," granted that was with respect to the PoW not PoS. It didn't help that ThePeeps said that staking didn't begin until block 10,000 and I don't really see anywhere that it explicitly said PoW and PoS is happening simultaneously although it is implied. SO EXCUSE ME IF I WAS A LITTLE CONFUSED HOW THIS STUPID COIN WORKS! Being a little more generous with the keystrokes in 1 comprehensive explanation 5 pages back would have saved several pages of discussion.

TimC, in light of the recent discussion, I'm not sure why any of us even needed to know about the 10k zero-value PoW blocks since staking (with reward) is supposedly working now. Or do the PoW blocks impact the PoS blocks somehow? What is the reason for advancing the PoW blocks is staking is underway? Thank you for your previous informative posts.

Ok, everyone calm down

Yes, you can stake now. PoW is only in there so the network isn't at a stand-still while we wait for coins to mature. There is 0 reason to mine it. I am, indeed, mining it myself (for 0 reward) to keep your transactions moving

You say POS and POW are happening simultaneously but I have seen no POS blocks on the network.  My wallet open and unencrypted for 48+ hours and no POS blocks mined.

My point is, I think you are mistaken in telling people "you can stake your coins now." Staking implies that you will be generating POS blocks and that is obviously not happening.  If I am mistaken - show me where I'm wrong.  Show me a non-zero reward block in the block explorer, or someone chime in and say "hey I just minted a POS block!"

I think what we have here is 10,000 blocks of zero reward POW only, after which the network will presumably convert to POS only (assuming everything works).  I also agree with Phosphorous - don't see the point in having this POW period if the POS is working properly, the network would be moving along just fine.

You keep saying we need to wait until the coins "mature" which is usually a defined length of time (# of blocks, # of hours, etc.) but you have not shared this yet.

That is the reason I pushed the block chain forward to 'age' our coins in our wallets to see if they will start to stake.

If you don't believe me, feel free to look in the code for a place that says PoS won't start until block 10,000 (HINT: There isn't any)
