Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Before Bitcoin reaches the mainstream, we need to have a better form of price stability. Lots of people are scared of it's immense volatility.....

this is indeed great news and good article.

But before mainstream there are tons of things that just need to be "done".

I think such a huge support will help for sure. But I don't predict Bitcoin in mainstream in nearest future.
Maybe in 5 years. Hard to say.

circle will build a wallet where you can secure your btc and you are safe from volatility. but of course the real btc price will still be volatil.

The future of Bitcoin is getting brighter and these type of crypto developments where larger companies like the Fortune 500 contribute towards building and making Bitcoin mainstream help towards the overall usability and reputation.

I look forward to what the future has in store for Bitcoin and related technologies.

This is a catch 22 that may solve itself over time.  As more and more people start using BTC, the vast price swings will start to subside...

"Miners are the guardians of the public trust"

A quote that I opined that got picked up in a syndicated news article entitled "Bitcoin Transitioning from Obscurity to Commonplace" a few months back.

http://www.twincities.com/business/ci_25202113/bitcoin-transitioning-from-obscurity-commonplace

The problem with Bitcoin is that it's super hard to explain WHAT it is, let alone how its made or made safe -- and the incentive to participate in the mining network.

By combining a screen-saver linked to a user selected pro-social cause that receives any bits of coin -- I *think* we have a compelling enough reason for people participate in the crypto-currency economies.

In other words Bitcoin goes Mainstream when your mom can mine to help spay/neuter some of the cats that will eventually lead to her being known as "that crazy cat lady" ;-P

Quite simply it becomes harder to manipulate the market. To manipulate the price of the dollar you need to be part of the wealthiest 1%, and with bitcoin you just need some spare change in comparison to that.

That is why I keep my little 110 Ghs miner chugging along. I don't make much but I enjoy being a tiny part of the securing the network.
