Well, I've crossed the 50 BTC threshold mining through pools.  I still haven't solved a block yet, so it seems that I'm starting to drift towards the 'unlucky' side.

What is the largest number of coins you have mined without solving a block?

I think I hit 130 with slush's pool.

Recently found two blocks, so that helped catch me up, but I'm still under expected value d'oh

Heh.  I'm not sure I'd call having 50BTC in hand without solving a block 'unlucky'.  Smiley

I just realized that I solved 6 blocks in a pool where I've made 105BTC in payouts.  Knowing I generated ~200BTC more than I was paid, sure doesn't feel lucky, either.  Shocked

I see the value of Bitcoin, so I don't worry about the price...

I solved 2 blocks mining at deepbit, 1 block mining at bitcoinpool and zero blocks solved mining at several others pools.

Total payout = 103,77216415 btc

And 2 blocks solved mining in solo mode Grin 100,15409796 btc

Total earnings = 203,92626211 btc in 9 months of mining.-

It's odd...after solving just one block in a reasonable amount of time at a pool, I really want to solo mine   Grin

Do it. There is no reason why you shouldn't, unless you really need a $5 a day trickle flowing in.

I think I'll postpone it for a few days.  Increased hashrate on Deepbit is giving me like 150% today.  And honestly, $5 a day + the weekly guitar lessons I give are enough to pay for virtually all my non-rent expenses at the moment, so in reality the $5-$7 per day I generate is a significant amount.

Remember those experiments where researchers had participants try to influence the outcome of a computer program randomly flipping a coin simply by imagining a certain outcome??  I intend to do similar things when I solo mine   Grin

Trust me, I've been very interested in p2pool, but I'd like the g/hash to get a little higher...

By "pooled rewards" do you mean that people are still donating extra payouts to the miners regardless of submitted shares?

Edit:  Yes, I realize my first sentence is a chicken-and-egg problem.

Mined ~130 with no blocks found ever Sad Mix of Deepbit and BTCguild. It's a long time ago I last mined though. 22 eurocents a kilowatt kills any profit Sad
