Sorry I don't quite understand this site. IMHO the original post has to much promotional "fluff" material and not enough "this is how it works" type of information (do x then y happens and the result is z).

Does the following explain how it works?

First someone opens a bet saying market x will increase/decrease in value over y amount of time then someone else bets against that outcome.  Winner takes all minus commission?

If this is the case it's sort of like binary options (with better roi potential 100% vs 70%) except traders bet against other traders instead of the house. This = mucho awesomeness!

On the other hand if it's more like real world trading where if price increases say 1% you win or lose 1%. Not so awesome...

Good feedback and good question.

We will update the promotional material with the following answer to your question:

Our BullBear game is like your first description.  It is similar to binary options, plus social competition.  I'm not sure what you mean by "100% vs 70%".  Maybe you can elaborate.

The potential ROI can be 100% minus house cut.  The players bet against each other instead of the house and the house takes a cut from the losing bet.  Here is more info on how it works:

Someone (any player or StockBet) hosts a round by picking:
  • Stock, Index or ETF
  • Start and End dates (duration)
Then anyone (including the host) can enter a bet by picking/entering:
  • Bull or Bear (betting that it will go up or down)
  • Currency (Bitcoin or free Chips)
  • Amount of Bet

The 100% return (less house cut) applies if the total amount of Bull bets equal the total amount of Bear bets.  If they are different, then the potential winnings are different.  Please click on the following link to get details on how this is calculated:

BullBear FAQs
(If you've been to StockBet.com before, please refresh your browser)  At this webpage, scroll down to "HOW DO YOU CALCULATE POTENTIAL WIN/LOSS?"

Please do not hesitate to ask any other questions or provide more feedback.

Hopefully, we'll see you play a few rounds.

Sorry I don't quite understand this site.

I added screenshots to the OP (original post) to help illustrate how the game works.

Of course, the best way to see how the game works is to try it out.  It's free to sign up and to play with our free Chips.

Activist billionaire investors, Carl Icahn and Bill Ackman, have been going toe-to-toe on Herbalife.  Icahn is long and Ackman has a $1 billion short position.

Last week, Ackman gave a 3 hour presentation to bash Herbalife.  Instead of going down, HLF stock shot up 25%.  It was the most important and humiliating presentation of his career.

Stock is down 12% after earnings report.  Did Ackman save some face?

Twitter dropped 58% from peak in January. Today it popped 20% after earnings report.

Twitter and Disney are now competitors in providing rollercoaster rides.

Stocks have been on a tear for the past 5 years.  Dow Jones is up 149% since 2009-03-09.  Are we in a bubble?

However, Dow Jones is down 3.47% in past 7 trading days.  Is this the beginning of the correction that so many bears have demanded?  Will the slide continue on Monday?

IPOs have been on fire.

There have been 182 initial public offerings (IPOs) in New York this year, so far.  There were 213 in total in 2007.  Many of them are small, obscure companies.  Some of them were very big, such as GoPro.

However, you cannot bet on an IPO share because you cannot buy or short the share on IPO day, unless you're connected with the underwriter, investment banker or broker.

With StockBet, you can bet on IPOs.  If you know of a IPO that you want to play, let us know and we'll ensure that it's added to the database.

Alibaba is going to have their IPO (initial public offering) soon.  It could be the biggest IPO in history.

More merchandise was sold on Alibaba in 2013 than on Amazon and eBay combined.

Unless you have connections with the underwriter of the IPO, investment banker or broker with access to the IPO shares, you cannot play IPOs.  Now you can bet on them at StockBet.

Join in the bet on whether Alibaba's share price will go up or down on IPO day:

https://stockbet.com/#/BullBear/round/9494

(Once the date is announced, it will be updated on this round.)

Bank of America to pay nearly $17 billion in Department of Justice settlement deal.

BofA's stock has been held back because of this pending lawsuit over Countrywide's mortgages during the housing bubble.  (Bank of America's biggest mistake was buying Countrywide.)

Immediately after the settlement deal, BofA's stock jumped. Will BAC continue to rally?
