Also remember that MS Research has some interest in cryptocurrencies.

Any significantly advanced cryptocurrency is indistinguishable from Ponzi Tulips.

Spinning shiny discs at high speeds to detected physical pits by a flashlight? How delightfully archaic.

My guess is Windows "9" likely will have no disk (but that won't stop the bloatware).

My guess: There wont be a Windows 9
After Windows 8 they have to restart the whole damn thing to make up for the shame for removing everything vital from an operation system and adding useless bullshit...

I reading somewhere at MS actually has put together staff and have already started on Windows 9 & Windows 10..

The article was saying MS is working with Intel on Windows 9 with the goal of making it the first 128bit OS... and Windows 10 being the first 256bit OS...  I'll see if I can dig up that article again.

I am willing to bet it was written by an idiot.

Has anyone run the same analysis on Bitcoin nodes?  See what sort of places connected IPs resolve to?

This is turning out to be quite interesting.First GPU mining possible with LTC,now microsoft running an LTC node.LTC is certainly becoming an interesting currency for me.I want to know how to check this is cmd prompt in win 7 to see if my LTC connects to microsoft.

Sounds like that employee is mining for LTC as well.

It's a command line utility called "netstat". It shows the various connections you have with their port numbers. -n is probably the switch he used.

I've built servers with up to 256 GB RAM. For the sake of estimates, let's say 1 TB RAM is about tops right now. That's 2^40. If we extrapolate with Moore's law, we'll max out 64-bits (2^64) in about 36 years. (Realistically it's going to be a lot longer than that) There's no way MS is going to support Win9 40 years from now. There's no 128-bit hardware in the works, so there's no point in designing 128-bit software for the foreseeable future.

256-bit computing will likely never happen.
