The potential of Bitcoin is still tremendous. 24/7 unblocked low charge instant payments are here to stay. The disintermediate nature of the Internet will also capture the world of finance and take a part of the payment business. If Bitcoin continues to survive, $50k is still in the cards.

That is the hope, Bitcoin is a great protocole that solves tens of problems; the banking system sometimes feels very slow and inconvenient compared to Bitcoin

The mining fee would be ridiculous at this rate. Every transaction would cost a lot.

In reality, not.  The USD value of Bitcoins doesn't impact anything related to mining other than how many miners try to pile on board.  The increase in the number of miners would mean difficulty going up, which would mean more expensive mining hardware and more electricity.  Miners would continue to make about the same amount of money after we come to an equilibrium, and users of Bitcoin would not be paying any additional costs for transactions.  Makers of mining hardware would enjoy the boon as well as Bitcoin speculators.

Are you sure that the US Dollar will not become extinct before that date? It will be better to measure the value of Bitcoin in gold or some other form of wealth than measuring it in the US Dollar. Let's say that in 2095, 1BTC will be equal to 1kg of gold.  Grin

I have seen several (somewhat) convincing arguments that $50,000, and much higher, is possible within 1 or 2 years, but I think 3, 4 or 10 years is fast enough.
@bryant.coleman Good point about gold, someday BTC/gold will (probably) be the standard way to value/chart Bitcoin prices.

but in 2095 gold may be considered a completely worthless entity....just like sea shells used to be the most valuable traded currency in ancient times..

so maybe in 2095 1 btc will be worth 1 litre of pure water  Smiley

If BTC hits 50k, what do you think the price of gold and silver would be at? How about gas or milk? I think we'd be living in some pretty fucked up times unfortunately.

Now this could make some sense. I heard right now it cost around 300-400 to mine (electricity etc).
so price is around here (a little higher)

So are you saying it cost over $1000 to mine a Bitcoin last year?

I was going to add that it cost around 300-400 (and rest speculation). Yes but you are correct when you imply that sometimes the price does not necessarily occur within what it cost to mine.

After your comment, I realized that it is clear that other factors affect the price as well (such as china panic buying).

Does anyone realistically think that Bitcoin will ever reach $50k? Don't get me wrong, I'd be more than happy if it reach even 1 zillion but...

I've watched it go from .01 to .1 to 1 to 10 to 100 to 1000. I think we can all agree that Bitcoin is far from everywhere, so the next step to 10,000 is almost assured. After that, we're just half a step away from 50k. The odds of that happening are pretty good!

You are right and it is crazy to think we might be looking to a price of 50k$ in a bit!

10BTC would mean you can buy a small but nice house with a nice location
