Help!

Someone sent me two transactions this afternoon and they are not showing up in my wallet.  I ran a search on Blockexplorer and it shows they were sent.  My client has downloaded all the blocks.

I was messing around a little during the time when the transactions may have been sent, and I had my wallet.dat file out of the bitcoin folder for a bit and was messing with the encryption software.  Would this cause it to lose the addresses it generated for those transactions or something?  I'm so confused and hoping someone can help me get these back.  What the hell happened?

Thanks!

Can you see the address in your client's address book?

Yes the addresses are in the address book.

If you have the addresses you're fine.... restart bitcoin with -rescan and they should show up.

As we slide down the banister of life, this is just another splinter in our ass.

It's a command-line switch. If you're running the Windows version:

  • First, exit Bitcoin.
  • Click Start, Run.
  • Type cmd and hit enter.
  • Type cd "\program files\bitcoin" and hit enter.
  • Type bitcoin -rescan and hit enter.

Results may vary.
