I can see two results from mainstream media noticing altcoins (http://www.technologyreview.com/news/513661/bitcoin-isnt-the-only-cryptocurrency-in-town/)  - first they will divert money from bitcoin (but probably not much - all of their markets are very thin) - but they'll also add an additional uncertainty for investors (should I really buy bitcoins - maybe litecoins would be better?).  Both negative for bitcoin price.
The forum strives to allow free discussion of any ideas. All policies are built around this principle. This doesn't mean you can post garbage, though: posts should actually contain ideas, and these ideas should be argued reasonably.

Same effect as zimbabwe dollars diverting funds from us dollars.
