@smooth. What are the updates on the code rebase? I see that the price is very bullish these past few weeks, but I am afraid this growth is only supported by the overbullishness of the buyers who might be expecting too much because you are attached to the project.

I hope the hired developers are still working on the rebase. I reckon some of them might give up because of their lack of experience in Cryptonote.

slb mentioned that he is working on it on the previous page:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=641696.msg27437448#msg27437448

He is the maintainer of dashcoin and maintainer/creator of forknote, I believe, so I would say he's definitely got some experience in cryptonote codebase. I'm more optimistic that it will get done since I saw his post the other day.

Thank you. I missed the reply. Also, yes I am aware of slb and his project.

That makes me feel much better knowing that the rebase is in good hands. My hope now is for the price to fall a little, and we can buy more discounted Aeons hehehe.

Hi there, lately i've noticed a lot of interest here and there by newcomers, most are probably not used to cryptocurrency in general. Did you have thought that AEON is potentially one of the best "entry-level" coin in the whole crypto scenario already? My modest opinion is that there are a lot of potentially good ideas to work around, and maybe, given the right instruments, it should increase the prominency and the valuability of the coin itself, and more users eventually.
Maybe i was just inspired by "simplewallet" name of the aeon wallet who knows.. but it sounds like a good road to me. First thing it comes to my mind is a nice beginner's guide, a "get started" just before you go searching for the so many times mentioned "gui wallet like that other coin etc etc..." kind of request. For the very start it may be good to gather some good documentation from the internet, and refurbish the existing one; then, a more partecipated presence of the community with some more experience being pro active and overseeing this kind of stuff, and a lot more i can't properly explain because my lack of english skills Grin.
Then, what do you think about?

@ilPancrazio. Sorry but for now, Aeon is not a good entry level cryptocoin. There will be many disappointments coming out from this project in the future, I reckon. The first one being the delays of the code rebase. So Aeon needs people who are experienced in the cryptospace and open source projects in general.

Aeon does not need the small speculators who will cry and demand something because what they expected to happen did not come to fruition. If you are a newbie, your best move is to leave now.

I think that Aeon need small speculators and newbie users... this is a real coin with a promise and unique Algo, AEON its not a testnet, or an "elite users coin".

With rebase or not, Aeon have thousands of persons in it, holders/users/miners/traders/develops/newbies and speculators are needed, and of course, all of they expected to happen great advances and all will cry if at finish not come to fruition...

I am a newbie but hold my mined aeons, and i am not leave now or in a near future, because with my limited knowledge I am convinced that Aeon  and Cryptonite-lite could have a great future.

Yeah, of course, i pretty much understand that is actually better dealing with core problems first and focusing on the main project. In the above, i actually wanted to state the "kind of perception" it gives when someone is  approaching Aeon... i'm reading a lot from the internet, reddit, irc, that i frequent substantially, github etc. and i figured that a lot of people basically just wanna give themself a chance to try with Aeon, even if they're not skilled in such above mentioned requirements. My personal opinion is that the majority comes from Monero somehow, probably heard of Aeon on the way. And i think they felt like is potentially a good start.
That's the cause that actually brought them here, it means that's a phenomenon it can't be ignored.
I know and agree with you, is not recommended to commit much if not adeguately aware of the risk, therefore i'm not so sure that many of the above mentioned "newbies" are such fools..
My opinion is that new users are still beneficial, more hashrate is beneficial.
In a couple of days i've managed of recovering an old server, in the next days it will be operative, just bringing 2 Kh/s more, all in budget, all thanks to community advices, references and research. It is possible for anyone  to improve themself.

Finally, the tl;dr is aeon is enticing, just with the proper ways, would get more support even with totally newbies, some good strategy already should do the trick.

Regular laptop for Pool its ok, only check the temperatures, although AEON it's more friendly than other POW algo, now need a lot of ram (8gb) for use the simplewallet (the blockchain need a rebase).

But you could mining in paper wallet, or (i don't know) in a third party wallet.

It is possible to use simplewallet with a public node. Also pruning branch needs less than 8 GB I believe.

Update on rebase bounty

I have received one submission of (claimed) working code for the rebase bounty. I'm evaluating and testing it and expect to be opening it up to wider community review and input shortly.

Just make a GUI wallet pleaseeeeeeee.....  Smiley

This seriously. Mac version too.

What's the status from dev?

I run the daemon and wallet from Mac for my personal account. It's a straight forward build, just follow the instructions on GitHub and make sure you have the correct dependencies. You can do it!  Smiley

Perhaps you could point me to how to do this? Didn't find any instructions on GitHub and find the site generally confusing. Note: I'm not a dev, zero clue how to build a GUI wallet.

Quite astonishing there isn't a GUI wallet after 3.5yrs when Aeon devs would have no trouble building them from code which is already written on GitHub. What's stopping them from doing this apparently simple task?

I'm not sure I follow.  Roll Eyes

Here's the command line daemon & wallet for OS X. The instructions worked for me; https://github.com/aeonix/aeon
*************************************************************************************************
On OS X:

The project can be built from scratch by following instructions for Unix and Linux above.

Alternatively, it can be built in an easier and more automated fashion using Homebrew:

Ensure Homebrew is installed, it can be found at http://brew.sh

Add the repository: brew tap sammy007/cryptonight

Build wallet: brew install --HEAD aeon

The reason why I focus on AEON because its recent price has risen while its market value has been declining, and I think it will return to where it is supposed to be, so I'm optimistic about it
