I have created bootable ubuntu usb drive and created a bitcoin wallet in that environment so that i can copy the .dat file for cold storage on a separate usb drive. I have sent small amounts of btc to an address generated by this wallet both yesterday and today but no btc has shown up in the wallet yet, not even as an unconfirmed transaction. does the wallet need to completely synchronize with the network before the deposits will show up?

Thanks for the reply. my wallet was unable to fully synchronize as my 8 gig bootable usb drive apparently ran out of space before it completed. I have no clue how to check for my transaction on http://blockchain.info/ ...?

Simple: use the search on that website and look up the bitcoin address you sent your bitcoins to.

My personality type: INTJ - please forgive my weaknesses (Not naturally in tune with others feelings; may be insensitive at times, tend to respond to conflict with logic and reason, tend to believe I'm always right)
