How many watts does an antminer s1 really use? Is it more or less than the 360w bitmain claims?

At 220v or 110v? At which clock speed? With extra fans or no?

Yes, at 350mhz at 33 degrees celcius room temperature, my antminers pull 340-375 watts. This is running at 110v.

My downstairs rack, each runs at 310-330 watts at 220v line rating. about 10% more efficient.

Overclocked these numbers are higher, and at higher temperatures, the fan kicks up and draws even more power. But the BASIC answer to your question is Yes, Bitmain is not lying.

I've got 4 of these puppies, and I'll tell you, if I had more electricity and could handle more heat in my bedroom, I would. (My room runs a bit hot, gotta have a fan on me).

Buying from bitmain is the best deal, but a third party will still be profitable at certain prices.

Tips for buying miners second hand:

First - Make sure you calculate the value using bitcoinwisdom's difficulty calculator, at minimum 1 month should look to earn you 50% of your money (because the difficulty will go up and this isn't factored in there).

Next, before picking it up or having it delivered, request 20min of the miner configured to your pool to verify the gh/s rate, you don't want faulty hardware.

Lastly, find out whether or not it comes with a power supply, this should be factored into the value decision. You'll want 500w+ for one miner just to be safe.

What does this have to do with the proposed vs. actual wattage of an Antminer S1? Roll Eyes

360W is pretty bang on.. even put it through an ammeter to check.

Mind you it was only a clamp on and the DC but about 15A 12V per rail.. so 180W DC per rail, 2 rails = 360W, + losses probably 370 at the wall.

2 watts a hash with good psu is spot on…   by good psu I mean  plat or some gold psu's

so 400 watts at 200gh

380 watts at 190gh

360 watts at 180gh

300 watts at 150gh

all gh was done by freq change.

if you do the pencil mods and underclock you can get lower then 2 watts a hash.

I have 420gh at 560 watts

 3 s-1's underclocked and undervolted

 so I get 1.33 watts a hash.

@ philipma1957 that is some great number on the pencil mod in a few more Difficulty jumps I for sure will be trying this out. With the Antminers I have that would be 360.00 in power savings and my ac would thank me to. To stay on topic I would also note the from a normal P/S and a 80 plus gold one there is about 10% drop in watts used.

yeah I have so many psu's   due to gpu mining and gold or plats.

they save money in the long run.  just get them with good warranties.

I run the 3 at low power for

1)heat
2) noise
3)max power I can use in my  friends office is 800 watts

power costs us 3.5 cents a watt.  these will be running until Jan  or Feb  before they don't pay for the power we use.
