BTC-Puppy is a compact linux distribution (network disabled) designed for a single purpose - to generate offline, bitcoin brain wallets. This is a 'Live' booting CDROM that runs from RAM, launches a local copy of bitaddress.org in a web browser to generate offline bitcoin addresses. This is a very early concept. If people find it useful, I'll trim all the unnecessary software from the distribution to create an ISO under 40MB. Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Can it talk to printers? If networking is disabled, does that limit it to USB printers?

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable. I never believe them. If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins. I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion. Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice. Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

My goal would be to turn all external access off. Network, USB, Serial...
Your passphrase, address & key would get hand-written on paper.
This is obviously not for everyday use. This is for long-term savings accounts where the key is stored in a safety deposit box or your brain.

Really like this idea, could be a nice thing to have on a business card CDROM. I don't suppose you chose any kernel secure RAM options? If remember well there's a few things in there that greatly improve the security.

i was worried that the main brainwallet site there would need to stay online for people to figure out the brainwallets.. if we can do it ourself, maybe i'll put some btc in my noggin!

I like this. Puppy Linux is great for older computers since its so lightweight. Only think I could find that would run on this old HP laptop. Can you include some additional independent address generators? Perhaps brainwallet.org and the Cascascius tool? If I'm going to send a significant amount of BTC to cold storage I'd like to be able to verify the keypairs or passphrase>addresses with more than one tool, ideally at least 3. This will be handy for people who can also not afford the latest-greatest tech.

I made something like this but I used Slitaz Linux instead of Puppy. The ISO was about 30MB iirc.
