I was surprised recently to learn that there are still many states in the USA where gambling is illegal.

They made illegal gambling not only offline gambling but also they have made illegal gambling sites which is online. Many sites allow access even if they are not legal on that site but many a site cant be opened from the IP of the united states of America. I use a VPN so by mistake I opened a casino (bitsler) and came to know that they do to allow users from the USA.

Am not from the US, but I do know several US citizens who usually play in sites like Fanduel, Draftkings, Pinnacle etc since they receive a lot of great promos from these sites and have no issues providing their KYC to these reliable sites.

I'm not quite sure but land based gambling is still legal on selected states in U.S right? However when it comes on online gambling, wire act in that country announced that online gambling is illegal. Based on what I have read in this forum and other resources, online gamblers are really using VPN just to cross borders and be able to access different gambling sites. What worries me on their end is the lack of stability to some VPN apps and servers which could possible result to conflicts conerning transactions.

This made me curious. How does your friends managed to play on online casinos if they are in U.S? is it without using VPNs or there are just online platforms which allows online gambling.

They may allow users but you will surely get problem while withdrawing your funds sooner or later so if a casino restricted US players then they shouldn't abuse them or else they can take this as an advantage and you can lose money which you actually won with your luck. Land based casino is legal in US but it varies per state. They are just very strict on online casino especially those casino that has license from license board that they didn't acknowledge like Curacao. They have there own license but only few online casino has this due to a lot of restrictions. The casino mentioned by @Haunebu probably are those casino that has a license to accept US citizen that’s why there names are not so familiar here.

There are a lot of online casino that accept US citizen but most of them is crappy like what OP of this thread mentioned since US government wants to regulate there players like what they are doing on crypto exchange to control there profit from taxes.

If the user is from the US then he must carefully understand the requirements in the casino because even if the casino allows the user from the US with access using a VPN, he must confirm to the casino team that KYC from the US will be accepted. Many popular casinos ban US users, so I don't recommend that you use them unless you understand the risk of account bans or assets being frozen, but I don't know of any other alternative casinos friendly to US users so my assumption is that many US users are switching to offline casinos.

Fanduel and DraftKings are the way that a majority of my friends choose to gamble online.  I believe that some of the large Vegas casinos also offer some forms of online gambling.  As you said though, none of these platforms are too accepting of crypto.  I do believe that DraftKings is a Polygon/MATIC Validator, so they're clearly stacking MATIC and believe in integrating it into their platform.  I'm not sure what the holdup is, or if it's already been done and I'm just out of the loop.  I think either way it's coming and I'm sure there are plenty of people chatting in back rooms with regulators about what it's going to take to make things like this legal for American citizens.

It is a very good assumption and they are surely doing it, for me it is something that is very intelligent, there are many friends who are in the USA, and some are interested in entering the casino to make money, because supposedly life there is making it difficult, I don't know, it may be like that, in fact if I have recommended good sites, including stake.us (as I had already mentioned before) what happens is that it is very difficult to compete like this with physical casinos, because they are "The Vegas "which is the total paradise of casinos, this makes many players prefer it, but for players who are far from Las Vegas, they usually choose casinos that do not cause problems and are online.
