MediterraneanCoin TipBot System

We decided to develop our own TipBot system in order to introduce unique features not found in other altcoins and services.

The service is currently in beta testing.  We currently support the Twitter platform, more coming!

The unique features not found elsewhere are:

conditional tipping: a user can tip another one but the tip is confirmed when the tip gets enough votes by the community, before the expiration date. Each user has a single vote for each conditional tip. Use the following commands: sendtipconditional, tipvote.

assurance contracts: a collaborative tip where all the users contribute with small MED amounts to reach the total amount of MED before the expiration date.

autotipping: every time a user writes new content (i.e. new status on Twitter) containing 'mediterraneancoin'  our MED TipBot system tips  the user with small MED amounts!

Standard tipping is present, of course.

We do the maximum in terms of security, however we recommend you to not store large amounts of MediterraneanCoin on your twitter account. Somebody could hack your twitter account or steal your cellphone and gain access to your MediterraneanCoins.


MED TipBot Commands on Twitter

Commands to the MED TipBot on Twitter are given by posting statuses containing the '#MediterraneanCoin' hashtag (case is not important).

If you already follow the MEDTipBot user, you will receive notifications in response to your commands; else, you can lookup the response to your commands by looking at MEDTipBot tweets: https://twitter.com/MEDTipBot

Example, post the following status in your Twitter account:

#MediterraneanCoin getdepositaddress

User MEDTipBot will post the following tweet:

@YourUserName your MED address for deposit is MaWph6LPTdH2qQncEd8ddyPrjXHv8E4QYX

In order to receive notifications from the TipBot, you need to follow the MEDTipBot user on Twitter. After you follow this user, it can take up about 12 hour to receive notifications from our TipBot, or post a "#MediterraneanCoin update" status message to force an update of your status.

Lesson 1:  what is my balance with MediterraneanCoin tipbot?

first, follow the MEDTipBot user (visit https://twitter.com/MEDTipBot and click on "Follow)

then post the following status with your Twitter account:

Lesson 2: I want to withdraw my MED from the tipbot, what do?

first, specify what is your MediterraneanCoin for withdraw, so post a status update on Twitter like this (change the MED address withyour own, of course :

second, withdraw your coins to your wallet:

Just post a Twitter update containing:

Lesson 4: how to send a tip to a user

say you want to send a tip to a Twitter user whose screen name is "@smallplatf";

then, post the following status with your Twitter account:

#MediterraneanCoin sendtip @smallplatf  10 MED


You can send a tip to multiple users at the same time!


#MediterraneanCoin sendtip @user1 @user2 @user3  10 MED

This means: send a tip of 10 MED to each of the three users (for a total of 3*10 = 30 MED)

Lesson 5: send a conditional tip to a user

What is a conditional tip?
It is a tip which will we performed when the tip gets enough "tip votes" before the expiration date.

In this example, we create a conditional tip which needs to get at least 5 votes (hint: see the "tipvote" command) before the expiration date (2014-06-15, UTC time).

Some additional notes:
the expiration date is mandatory. The expiration date is in UTC format, you can specify also the time and the time zone. i.e. you can specifily precisely when the tip expires!

Lesson 6: how to vote for a conditional tip?

If a user has received a conditional tip, this means that another user has put some MEDs as a tip, but this MED will be available to the receiving user only if the tip gets enough "tipvotes" (before the expiration date).

i.e. the receiving user can "go social" in order to ask other users to vote for his pending tip!

An assurance contract is a way of funding the creation of a public good, that is, a good that, once created, anyone can benefit from for free. The standard example is a lighthouse: whilst everyone may agree that one should be built, it’s too expensive for an individual sailor to justify building one, given that it will also benefit all his competitors.

One solution is for everyone to pledge money towards the creation of the public good, such that the pledges are only committed if the total value of all pledges is above the cost of creation. If not enough people contribute, nobody has to pay anything.

So, using the tipbot system, it is possible to promote  an assurance contract in favor of a user:

#MediterraneanCoin assurancecontract @smallplatf 1000 MED 2014-06-30

This means that, in favor of user smallplatf, it is started an assurance contract funding, which will last until the expiration date (2014-06-30).

Users all over the internets can contribute to this funding using the "assurancetip" command. If the target amount is reached before the expiration date, than the target user will receive the amount. Otherwise, if by the expiration date the target amount for funding is not reached, the target user will receive nothing and the contributed amounts (using "assurancetip") will be given back to all contributing users.

If you want to contribute to the achievement of the objective stated by the assurance contract, everyone can contribute with an amount with the command 'assurancetip', which takes as arguments the user who will receive the contribute and the amount of MED, for example:

In this way, you are contributing 200 MED to the assurance contract previously established. In case you are the first contributor, 800 MED are still necessary to reach the target, before the expiration date.

If we get to the expiration date without reaching the target of 1000 MED (see below), then each contributed amount is given back to the tipping users.

there was a bug fixed two day ago, the 50 MED have been sent to your retrieval address (MgWra1jsKTjuwYmsteKwjyhyaYK9wrKLaT) instead of your Weibo address, so you have lost nothing. see also the transaction:

the new MediterraneanCoin Wallet v0.8.7.2 integrated with MediterraneanCoin Tipbot is now here!

This release of the wallet implements the integration with Twitter and Weibo Tipbot system for MediterraneanCoin. When sending MED to a user, you can type the username in the "Label" field, choose the platform to search (Twitter or Weibo are the supported platforms, at the moment) and click on the Lookup button. If the user has previously used the tipbot on the specified platform, then his/her MED address will be displayed in the "Pay To" textbox.


The integration works as follows:

In the Send form, in the Label field, type the name of the user to whom you want to send MED. Choose the platform (Twitter or Weibo).



Then click on the new button near the Weibo/Twitter drop down list.

The wallet queries the tipbot system for the MED address of that user; if the user has previously used the tipbot, than his MED address is shown in the "Pay To:" field, and you can send MED to the user!
