I wonder if this is related to the hack in any way, like when politicians cite 'family reasons' as the reason why they quit were dumped. I honestly don't know enough back story to judge if this is genuine sideways move into something they wanted to do, or a smoke screen to cover the stab marks on their backs.
Jeff Mcdonald cited health. And if you look at him he's become increasingly haggard as time has passed. Lon Wong always said he'd be stepping aside in 2019. I suppose that Proximax thing took up more time than he expected so did it early. Ok, thanks for that information, I didn't know Jeff Mcdonald had any health issues, hope he gets well. NEM is still one of the best managed crypto around, and change to bring in fresh legs with new ideas and enthusiasm is a good thing. Every organisation needs regeneration to prevent problems.

"Dear NEM Community,
We wanted to share today that Lon Wong and Jeff McDonald will be moving from their positions on the NEM.io Foundation and shifting to advisory roles. Kristof Van de Reck has been elected as the interim President of the NEM.io Foundation.
With the early phase of the Catapult private beta release safely underway, Lon and Jeff plan to now focus on NEM’s business partners. These startups and consultants are needed to implement NEM applications worldwide. The NEM ecosystem is thriving and by moving to advisory roles, Lon and Jeff can dedicate more time to developing strong system integrators - a critically underserved piece of NEM’s ecosystem.
On behalf of the NEM.io Foundation we want to share our gratitude for the invaluable contributions of Lon and Jeff. Thanks to their leadership the NEM.io Foundation has built an amazing list of accomplishments and has a bright future ahead.
Our key developers, business partners, and management team are 100% committed to NEM’s success. NEM is leading the industry in terms of proven blockchain business use cases and there’s a lot of good news coming.
Please extend a warm thank you to Lon and Jeff, and congratulations to Kristof! We plan to release more updates and a statement from Kristof in the coming days.
You can read Lon Wong's full letter here. You can read Jeff McDonald's full letter here.
Thank you,
Takao Asayama Albert Castellana Ken Chan Stephen Chia Shiteng Li Niko Mäenpää Nelson Valero Kristof Van de Reck"

The hack regarded an exchange; neider NEM blckchain neider NEM Fondation were envolved in any way. Jeff McDonald has health issues. Lon Wong is now focused on his new (NEM based) ICO. it's really sad that people still blame nem and its blockchain for the hack. If nem have some responsability, all the exchange with nem have had the same issue. Can you tell me some info about lon wong new ICO?

Tokyo financial services group Monex is considering Acquisition of Coincheck
"Monex Group, a Tokyo-based financial services group, is considering buying Coincheck. Shares in Monex jumped 23% off news that the retail investor was eyeing the Japanese exchange that was notoriously hacked this year. The move would benefit both parties, giving Monex an entry into the burgeoning crypto markets and granting Coincheck’s owners a way out.
Following the loss of $500 million in NEM, which was hacked in January, Coincheck’s owners have looked increasingly uncomfortable. The exchange has since resumed trading and reimbursed NEM customers, but it was no secret that its owners were seeking a way out. It looks like they may have found one in Monex. The deal, if sealed, could be worth “several billion yen” [several million USD] according to the Nikkei stock exchange.
One of the biggest problems Coincheck has faced in the wake of the hack is restoring customer trust. A changing of the guard would go some way towards achieving that. Monex group is a trading firm specializing in brokerage, foreign exchange, insurance, and alternative investments, but has no exposure to cryptocurrency.
Cryptocurrency exchange acquisitions are extremely rare, although last month Circle concluded its takeover of Poloniex. A week ago, Japan’s Bitarg exchange denied reports that Yahoo was considering purchasing it, and the New York Times’ Nathaniel Popper has tweeted the rumor that South Korean investors are eyeing a $400m move for Bitstamp.
Shares in Monex Group jumped 23% off news of the Coincheck buyout, hitting their daily limit of 424 yen, and coinciding with bitcoin climbing $400 as the cryptocurrency markets returned to green. The Monex-Coincheck deal looks likely to go through, with the Nikkei reporting that plans are in place for Coincheck’s Chief Executive Koichiro Wada to step down. Before the paperwork can be inked, Monex will seek reassurance from the Japanese Financial Services Agency regarding Coincheck’s registration, which had yet to be approved at the time of January’s $500 million hack."

Several news media report that Japanese brokerage firm Monex is interested to acquire Coincheck exchange. Since Coincheck is in trouble since the NEM hack, this could be the rescue for the exchange. An article on Coindesk.

Hello Nem! I want to talking about community management. I am an investor, and fan of the Nem. Long ago i've join to Nem Telegram chat. More recently the "quality" of Russian Nem chat began to fall precipitously. I have no complaints about the old administrators. But, I would like to find out who makes a decision regarding the appointments of administrator rights to new users. The problem is in, the rights to resolve controversial issues are given to people who absolutely do not know how to work with the community, moreover, they do not know how to behave in the hands, there is no competence in resolving disputes over violations of the rules. In the Russian chat of telegrams there are adequate administrators, but, recently appointed administrators, it is a shame of the company. Please take action and correct this inapprehension.

It was like, here, pay this address x amount of BTC and you'll get a stake. At the time I joined it was around $30 for my stake. Yeah, I got my money's worth out of it and still have some left. I don't think there were ICOs yet back then, but I did also invest in a couple of projects where you sent BTC in exchange for some amount of future coin, and even then most of them have fizzled out. NEM is still here, though. I just wished I'd picked up two or three instead of one. But back then $30 was what I could afford to lose.

For anyone experiencing exchange issues with XEM, it may be worth looking into getting a Bittrex account.
Had perfect withdrawels recently there, not sure about deposits, but they seem to have their stuff in order.
Yep, i can recommend Bittrex too, never failed me. At first, i had to get used to their site, but then never looked back. Poloniex, on the other hand, well, thats a long story ! I think they are just there to annoy us. By annoying i mean 25000 USD in my case. You have no idea what i´m going through. When i wrote to Bittrex: Problem solved. When i wrote to Polo: "Nada".

I've backed away from Polo too, though it probably has more to do with them delisting one of my favorite coins than anything else. But, there have been those weird indicators that have made me concerned. Anyway, if I want to trade on Polo again I'd need to create a whole new account, because Polo is the *other* exchange that seems unable to change profile email addresses. SpectroCoin also has that, er, *feature.* On another note, do you all think we may have found the bottom on XEM?

A Letter from Jeff McDonaldby Julian · April 3, 2018 Taking on a New Advisory Role to further NEM’s Success"I remember 2013; I was excited about Bitcoin and dove in head first to learn as much about it as I could, even though my friends and gf told me I was crazy. Hahaha. Blockchain consumed most of my free time and by early 2014, my mind was racing with all the potential that blockchain could unlock. It was then I stumbled into NEM’s community and haven’t looked back. Everything about NEM was different…the devs, the community, the vision. It deeply resonated with me and I fell in love with this project. I joined the call for participation, made NEM’s first Facebook page, and started making posts on the BitcoinTalk forum and other places to promote NEM. Little did I know how much NEM would become a part of my life. Since 2014, my role has grown from social media to include writing our blogs and updates, architecting Supernodes, championing the Community Fund, overseeing wallet development with Mixmaster, helping with early website designs with Saul, making Apostille with Jimmy, creating the Voting standard with Sergi, and finally helping Lon to start the Foundation in the role as Vice President and expand awareness across the world. I’ve met many wonderful people, watched the blockchain industry grow exponentially, and have seen NEM evolve from a project where people used to mock me over my passion for blockchain to now having people asking me how they can be a part of this movement. It’s the third-year anniversary of launching NEM and Catapult is soon to be released. I can’t tell you enough how proud I am to be a part of NEM. Fast forward to today. It’s been a really busy time, a bit busier than I would like it to be. As some may know, I’m not always in the best of health with Crohn’s Disease and have been away from America for more than ten years. I’d like to take a break to focus on some other things, see my family, rest and rejuvenate. As of today, I’m resigning from my role as Vice President of the Foundation and moving into a new advisory role where I can better manage my time, health and relationships. I’m not going anywhere and my passion for NEM hasn’t diminished. If anything with my experience and reflection, it’s becoming more focused. I plan to expand my work with LuxTag and Kchain, improve the Voting protocol and Apostille protocol as Catapult furthers in development. I’m also working on other ideas for additional protocols in addition to these that Catapult will enable. For me, these are exciting things that I want to work on and so I’m making that happen starting today. All the foundation members have been supportive, and I want to especially thank the NEM devs, Jaguar0625, Gimre, and BloodyRookie for all their hard work. Without them, we would have no great technology to rally around. Their vision of what a blockchain could and should be, continues to inspire me. I hope you feel as hopeful for NEM’s future as I do. Being a part of NEM is one of the best things I have done in my life, and I encourage everyone to find their own path to help us build, market, and spread the word. Thanks, Jeff" https://nemflash.io/letter-jeff-mcdonald/

Bottom, or not, i´m buying. It can only go up from here. Thank me later ! I was able to pick some up earlier today, and the price is already higher than what I paid for, so that's always a good feeling. I probably will keep buying as I am able.

So Lon Wong is taking the long walk, eh? Good! After the completely botched handling of the Coincheck fiasco with the coin tainting it was clear NEM needed better management. I very much hope they get it.

How long is the supernode bounty fund program scheduled to last now, will the funds get topped up from other community fund accounts like the 'silver' coin fund? What happens when the Supernode bounty ends, will fees be enough to attract enough nodes to keep the network secure?
