Edit - PS I didn't take the web site down, the DNS was donated by someone and they apparently did not renew it. I forget who that was  I can host the dns, just PM or email me what is needed. james at gigamining dot com As for donations, I'm just assuming here, but I've personally donated quite a bit to keep BAMT going. If a 0.6 came out, I would like to use it. GPU mining is STILL profitable and there is not reason to quit until it is not. Best, James |

Every .6 version I was able to get my hands on would not work. I do not want my btc back. I would like just a working product. No hard feelings(personal) about it, it's only money.
Here is what I would like to see. Bamt .x (CGMINER w/Stratum for 7xxx cards) Plug in and go just like .5c
If you need more donations ask if not "get busy".
When is the next meeting BTW?

I played with .6 "preview" and it seemed less stable than .5, but then again, I don't have any 7xxx series GPU which was the stronger reason of why it was being built. I was just using 5xxx, 6xxx, and FPGAs. I too donated, even for the mystical unicorn that was BAMT Pro with Android app. I was sad to see progress languish, but totally understand why. Staying motivated to provide updates to a product that you see downloaded X number of times and taking patches is hard. You get a feel for how many people are just using and not contributing at all, and that can be frustrating, especially if you have other commitments in life and have to move on opportunities that do make you money. A hobby is hobby until it becomes work, which ends up sucking especially work you don't get compensated for doing.
That being said, I do wish for the project to continue, in whatever form that may be. There will be a large number of GPU based users with Alt coin affinity looking for a home once the ASICs really start to deploy, they are going to gravitate to what is easy to use and setup. But Alt coins being Alt coins, how much contribution do you think they would be willing to give is the question and do you really want to be taking donations in that denomination, then have to deal with conversions etc. It's a PITA.
It is my opinion that the next wave of mining with ASICs would be a target market. "BAMT ASIC" All the features and simplicity of BAMT but for the ASIC miners. USB Boot, easy updating cgminer/bfgminer support when new releases become available, graphs, full integration with gpumon/mgpumon, (renamed asicmon/masicmon) central management of your farm from a web browser or mobile device. I don't know how much you would be able to receive in donations for such a product, I would of course donate, but that alone would not be worth your time. But it is fun to dream of such a product. (Yes I know you can make some of this with cgminer's API with miner.php, and I have.)
Some of us in the FPGA crowd have gravitated to the Pi/Minepeon product, which has been fun, but the Pi has little glitches on occasion with it's USB hardware that makes you long for the stability of a standard Intel/AMD motherboard, of which many of us have stacks of these days. Plus I doubt a Pi is going to handle 8+ Single SCs or a couple Mini Rigs.
So I guess it is really up to you on the direction you want to take it. I for one would like to see it evolve.

No hard feelings here. Been running BAMT for awhile now. I donated way back because I loved your work. Wasn't looking to pay for an update. Just donating as a sort of thank you for taking your own time out of your day to help us all out.
I don't know much about tinkering with linux, but I'd gladly appreciate some sort of Litecoin update for BAMT. Sort of like a version that mines Litecoin instead of Bitcoin out-of-the-box, and keeping all the same commands/ssh stuff. That stuff was awesome, and I'm gonna miss it now that I have to switch all my rigs over to Windows.
If I'm going to be making thousands of dollars worth off of someone elses work, I know I can donate a small portion to the guy that made it happen. I pledge $100 in either BTC/LTC if such a version ever came out. I'm sure we can get some other forum users to rally up, donate, add links in sigs, and try to get this going. It's just too freakin awesome, and I'd really hate to see BAMT become useless.

Try creating a new USB stick. If it still occurs, most likely a hardware problem. |

I've been using SanDisk Cruzer 2GB sticks, I've had 1 go bad out of 12 over the past 2 years or so. Using mostly ASUS and MSI motherboards. |

cheapest possible no-name usbs i can find locally that have a lifetime warranty. always keep image backups and extra usbs laying around microcenter.com |

Must be an incompatible board I guess. If anyone has another fix, please let me know.

what mobo? I know some gigabyte? mobos won't boot a linux partition off usb. |

Don't have board in front of me but it's probably a more obscure one. The system I'm testing it on is one of those compact Shuttle brand small form factor machines, so the board may not be a common one. That's a good thought about the USB though -- maybe I'll blow the BAMT image to a spare SATA drive and try to boot from that...

You might start there. |

It took me a couple more months to write version 0.6, which includes support for the 7970s. I did release it for testing, but I never really got any feedback on it.
Some feedback: The image was OK, around 400MB in size and at first run there was a pop-up asking to decide between 5xxx series, 7xxx series or NO GPU NO AMD (or something like that). I choose at first NO GPU but nothing really happened (most likely because of the missing repo), shortly after the pop-up asked me to reboot, only to be welcomed again by the same pop-up and so on and on. So I choose 7xxx the second time and the driver ( 12.8/8.982) was installed and that was pretty much it. Since bamter.org is down, the SDK ( 2.7 according to the configer ) and also BFGminer were not installed. (looking in common.pl I see that cgminer was thrown completely away although bamt.conf is still using it.) I installed them manually and ended up with a workable system with all 5 cards recognized and mining but nothing seems to be automatized like previous BAMT. You have to start all you need by hand, they are not even in the menus. (Is that because the setup was never really completed, or not yet implemented?) The system has also a bad habit of keep rebooting two-three times until it really starts. Once started, the system is stable. So there you have it, it kinda works but I cant tell much until the repos are still up.
