Mining Bitcoins with old rigs

Is there any way for those poor fellows like me, equipped with an Intel Dual core 2.2 GHz CPU and no GPU and no Bitcoins in their wallet to buy hashes, start mining some Bitcoin in tiny amounts? Or any other type of service that would run in the background of my PC and generate Bitcoin like ThreadManager ( https://coingeneration.com/ ) and others.

sure no reason to use those oldies for BTC mining.
Nothing older 5870 rig can do something related to mining. With 5870 rig it is still possible to mine something if you are on free electricity.

Of course it is better, but that costs money, which I am short on.

Nothing older 5870 rig can do something related to mining. With 5870 rig it is still possible to mine something if you are on free electricity.

it would probably not even be worth your time in setting up the machine as it would mine so little.

And with that cards you can only mine brand new alts triying to make some profit because if you wanna mine well stablished alts or bitcoin it will be a waste of time.

You should mine cpu only coin with your CPU, then convert it to BTC.

Hello!

You can mine some altcoins though you will not get a high profit!  .

First mine a coin, so you can find your hash rate.

Then, go to this site and put your hash rate is scrypt coloumns.

Now you can see easy coins which can give a little profit.

depends how old.
i still have a dozen 58xx rigs that are still making a profit on x11 & x13 coins.
it sure isnt what it used to be, but its not that bad either.

my rig is so old, but I still use it to mining, it is impossible to mine bitcoin with the high difficulty. so I mine some altcoin with small difficulty.
i prefer mine x11 or x13 like darkcoin, lioncoin, cryptcoin. because i get good Hashrate with my old rig

Well as long as the hardware is capable of allowing GPUs to mine scyrpt, X11, X13 coins then yeah you're OK.  But that's not what I would consider old.  Something like a Celeron 333 or Pentium 75MHz rig - that would be old.  If it can support a PCIe Gen 2 slot it can probably mine.

We're talking in PC times, and in PC times they are old.  They don't have PCIe slots so they're essentially obsolete for mining. The processors can't handle instruction sets to even CPU mine.

What were considering old?  I have my 386 SX.  My dad has punchcards in the garage that he used with Fortran (most likely before you were born).  I think I have a stone tablet...

I think it is a bad idea. BTC mining is not much profitable as it was earlier. Mining with old rigs is horrible. You should think about Altcoin.

x11 mining is what you are looking for. But the price has dropped a lot and it might not be profitable anymore.

In 2011 I was making 0.2BTC/day off of just one $150 6870.  I made no objections to anybody mining back then because it made sense.  Now you have to really understand the risks.  Plopping down $3k for 10 high end video cards and eating depreciation only to see them make $5 a day might be pretty disparaging. Risk analysis is needed.

BTC isn't an altcoin, and you can't mine it profitably with either CPUs nor GPUs nowadays. You could mine LTC with a graphics card but scrypt ASICs are now available which have the same hashpower but consume a fraction of the electricity costs.
