We do need help but I'm not sure what help we need. Can someone else elaborate...maybe a dev?

I visit yalls slack occasionally, next time im in there, just let me know something yall need help with and I can bring it infront of the collective and see what they want to do. Fair honest coins deserve support.

Is "mark"/"marking" reserved for the reputation score only?  So that regardless of the amount of bitmarks given by any individual to another, it is the specific act of giving them (i.e., each transaction) that counts as one "mark"?

No, it's integration specific. So you can set it up whichever way you'd like for your own website or whatever. You can also use different algorithms if you plan on emphasizing the reputation part of it. I think we wanted to have a repository of algorithms and such so that people could just choose whatever one they thought would work well for them if they felt they needed one.

In some cases like perhaps a charity, the reputation aspect might not matter as much(or it might, it depends on the way they want to do it) so they might just integrate marking as a way that people can mark and transfer value to whatever cause they deem worthy.

Thanks for the info.

IMHO, from a marketing perspective, it's too bad there isn't a way to incorporate the full Bitmark branding into the "mark" terminology -- something like "Bitmarking" or "Bitmarkers."   I think Bitmark is a fantastic name (obvious btc association) but "marks" loses this, adds some confusion (public already finds crypto confusing) and sounds generic.  Maybe this isn't possible because of the need to differentiate the reputation aspect with certain algorithms or I'm missing something else.  Anyways just my 2 cents  Smiley

Someone has a bitmarking domain name registered I think. One of the things about marking is that for a lot of people who use it for the first time they probably won't even realize that it's associated with a cryptocurrency, or even what a cryptocurrency is for that matter. Almost like they get slowly eased in to it and learn step by step through actually using it and seeing the value in crypto as a daily use currency. Some people might think of Bitcoin as some vague investment thing that they saw on the news or the IT guy at work won't shut up about Tongue. Of course they'll be some people who are already aware of Bitcoin and maybe some sites/marking integrations that target that type of audience might make the Bitmark part of marking more apparent. It's going to be up to each individual marking integration how they want to present it so it will be interesting to see some of the variations in how it's used maybe.

Yeah, chain is just mining blocks very slowly due to the high difficulty and low hash. Not stuck or anything. It's very inconvenient for sending BTM around at the moment but one way or the other we have to get it back up to speed either though rasing demand or changing the algo if need be.

So, do a hardfork with DigiShield (v2 or v3, ask NLG guys), rent some rigs for a couple of days to move blocks, fixed.

It isn't that hard.

It doesn't address the issues with supply though. When demand is low we'd prefer that supply is reduced as well.

Posting this here for the sake of transparency. This is from #general on slack. Anyone wanting a slack invite let me know an email address and i'll send you an invite:

19:40]  klaranet (bot): 1₥ has been awarded to androidicus

[19:40] melvincarvalho: how much is missing from the foundation is my primary concern

[19:40] melvincarvalho: many people dontated

[19:43] androidicus: Personally; 250 BTM & 0.2 or 0.3 BTC (if I recall correctly) - _donations_ I would stress, not developer loans (edited)

[19:44] melvincarvalho: @androidicus: taking donations is worse, developer loans are expected as loans .. im not talking about development donations, someone reported just now that some of the BTM from the foundation are not there ... the explorer is down, this really needs to be clarified immediately

[19:45] androidicus: Oh - I was about to say that I am a way off having 'integrity' doubts... yet (edited)

[19:47] melvincarvalho: needs to be sorted out ASAP

[19:49] melvincarvalho: sometimes development doesnt go to plans, that happens

[19:49] melvincarvalho: sometimes loans dont get paid and need to wait a while

[19:49] melvincarvalho: that's one thing

[19:49] melvincarvalho: it's another to use funds that have been set aside for another purpose

[19:49] melvincarvalho: if that's happened

[19:52] amarha: to make sure everyone is on the same page wrt to the foundation funds, from what i know s11made noticed a transfer out a while back and brought it up with mark. then mark explained to s11made, myself, medic that he had swept the wrong private key, meaning to sweep his personal funds instead. and that his usb key was with one of his children who went away to school i believe. the original amount transferred out was 2500 and so far 1500 of that has been returned.

[19:53] amarha: so that's what i know about the situation

[19:53] amarha: should have been more transparent about it before

[19:54] melvincarvalho: @amarha: so 1000 BTM is still not accounted for?  Is there a way we can see without the explorer there?

[19:54] androidicus: http://www.blocktree.io/e/BTM

[19:55] amarha: i didn't think much of it to be honest, i remember he had accidentally sent foundation funds before a while ago. but in hindsight i don't know why i didn't recommend that a post be made about the situation or anything.

[19:56] amarha: is back up

[19:56] amarha: yeah so there's 1000 BTM that's outstanding atm

[19:56] melvincarvalho: Total Sent     5172.88557296 BTC

[19:57] melvincarvalho: so what's the 5000?

[19:57] melvincarvalho: would you expect that normally to be 0?

[19:59] amarha: yeah, before it was the 1000. then i guess plus the 2500. and then there looks to be ~1600 or something that went out and then came back

[20:00] amarha: not sure. last thing i remember is the 2500 going out and then mark mentioning he returned 1500

[20:01] melvincarvalho: 6c912884490a9c441227ed031d2cb0fe092269522952a7d736c24f9cb9fb4e7e

[20:02] melvincarvalho: 1500 out

[20:02] melvincarvalho: 1 week later 1500 put back in

[20:03] melvincarvalho: then 1500 put back in 4th Jan

[20:03] amarha: yeah i don't know what happened there. perhaps the 1500 was already back in when s11made noticed the 2500. that's my guess as to why i don't know about it, as at the time the balance simply would have been whatever the full balance was supposed to be minus 2500 (edited)

[20:04] melvincarvalho: the problem for me is that in october btm was trading at 100k-200k and today it was trading at 4k

[20:05] amarha: yeah. to be fair it could have gone either way too. but i see what you're saying.

[20:06] melvincarvalho: so what now?

[20:07] melvincarvalho: anyone that donated has a right to know

[20:08] melvincarvalho: imho, the only honest thing to do is to immediately make this info public, on any public channel where donations were solicited, then give markp a chance to clear things up ...

[20:08] amarha: yeah i'll do that now. hopefully mark can get online at some point.

[20:09] melvincarvalho: im not the most diplomatic person :stuck_out_tongue: so maybe someone else should .. at least we brought it out here ...

[20:09] amarha: i'll make a post with this chat here as it covers what i know about the situation. there's not a lot i can say about it other than just the facts and then everyone can discuss it from there.
NEW MESSAGES

[20:11] melvincarvalho: sure but it could be perfectly innocent, and he's not here right now to give his side of the story, so perhaps give some element of benefit of the doubt ... people can come here if they want to find out .. and it's 'only' 1000 BTM ... markp may have donated more than that himself, but I think we need clarity just in case

[20:13] melvincarvalho: wish he was here to explain :disappointed:

Fixed it early this morning, the server had crashed.  ANN updated to remove pools which no longer exist or support BTM.  Further updates later today.

rent some rigs for a couple of days to move blocks, fixed.

There are 361 blocks left to diff change, renting some hash for a couple of days would make BTM retarget to low diff, which would make it fairly profitable to mine and resolve the slow chain issue for the foreseeable future.

(bitmark foundation) yeah so there's 1000 BTM that's outstanding atm

Foundation balance fully restored with transaction 6987ebe301f9ecf90659c2a888a1445a51f85f6b5c491ecf6ef785066b5979bd . We need to setup an x of y address for the foundation with several people holding the keys and move all funds to it.

Hey guys, my wallet is not syncing. Any ideas: what's the last add node list? Thanks.

It's likely synchronised, when does it say last block was received?  The network is painfully slow at the moment which triggers the wallet UI to say it's some hours behind the network, when in fact it's not.

You can verify by checking the block height in your client, and comparing to the last block on the explorer.

If it is a network sync issue, simply close and reopen your client and it should connect to one of the master seed nodes and resolve the problem.

These transactions, which include your own melvster, are known by the network, and will be mined in the next block or so, provided that the pools which have miners present have not been configured in such a way as to mine empty blocks.

If anybody has trouble getting connections to the network, open a console (help menu in bitmark-qt) and enter
Code:
addnode bitmark.co onetry

Hey guys, my wallet is not syncing. Any ideas: what's the last add node list? Thanks.

It's likely synchronised, when does it say last block was received?  The network is painfully slow at the moment which triggers the wallet UI to say it's some hours behind the network, when in fact it's not.

You can verify by checking the block height in your client, and comparing to the last block on the explorer.

If it is a network sync issue, simply close and reopen your client and it should connect to one of the master seed nodes and resolve the problem.

has not synced for 3 days

note the wallet was from 0.9.2 but I used 0.9.3 to send

Client just says unconfirmed as do the block explorers.  I didnt intentionally set a 0 fee or anything.

Nothing urgent, I can wait a week or so and see if it clears itself up

On consulting the transaction memory pool I see the following transactions as unconfirmed and waiting to be mined in a block:

3 days to be confirmed in a block! I thought bitcoin took a long time. Anyway, in regards to syncing...the block explorer does not show any blocks (basically the one from the OP is not working for me: http://bitmark.co:3000/) so I can not check to see if my client block height matches. Been stuck on block 46439 for days. The add node code is not help either. What is the last network block?
