Is it possible to do a third pow round once the coin is proven honest?

i think it would be, but that would just water it down and reduce it's value even more as it stands, imho.

On the other hand, it could generate new interest, helping to shed the skeletons in the closet.
Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Saw the coolest use for a premine I hadn't seen before.

The dev for VVV coin which launched today is giving away all the premine in IRC via rain. He is doing it in chunks and the requirement is 100 members in the channel, the next one is 200 members and so forth. great way to spread it out and get people involved

So i had 19176 coins. Then ofcourse the wallet crashed but now i installed an older version of the wallet 1.0.9.0 and now it doesnt sync anymore. I made a back up of my old wallet and i dont know what to do i feel ripped off or something... Any help?

I would suggest not to do anything till the time SC rumors/news are sorted out. Hold on on to your wallet backup. I have old version wallet and it is syncing perfectly alright.

FYI, your coins are safe because we have blockchain. Your Coins and money is still safe.

I was smart and kept all my coins on the exchange and glad I did because about the time this went south because of the FUD, that wallet would never open and just close really fast if it did in the background. I have back up dat with about 2k worth of coins that staked, but this is exactly why I am a little hesitant about the wallet. I know exchanges are not much better, but in this case glad I had the cow over there.

The last wallet broke because Mintpal changed its API and since the new wallet contained hooks into that API it broke it.

I just had to revert to an older wallet and it worked, just didnt have the fancy stuff.

One question about this restructure. Are any of the original DEV's going to be involved in this restructure (take-over) and will it be based upon the document that guy wrote on "Silky"? I understand rumor going around that he was part of the original scam. Please clarify. I think as long as Minpal and Cryptsy are good with the coin, it will continue to have promise, but I need to get a little more involved in understand who is operating this new structure.

if ANYONE from the orig team is back on this team. I am OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sure I am not alone.

That should be a warning to anyone taking over.

Hey! We're not all bad m8 some of us got scammed as well , I did 5 weeks work for fuck all coz I believed this coin would b big, and have always been honest, just wanted to throw that out their

We cannot even know if you are a different person or one person with many accounts. Would you care to provide any details about the organization of the old dev team (no personal info, but info about how it was formed, how it worked, what happened to the premine etc).

I don't know if you are good or bad. You acted like filthy scammers. Enough for me.

Quantum has NEVER been or will be a scammer, he got scammed just like the rest of us. He was a volunteer to help the community. Take your baseless accusations elsewhere

Chill out dude. I am with the good guys. I'm not accusing anyone. I'm just saying I have very little information and need more details before trusting anyone in this thread again. That's all.

Quote "You acted like filthy scammers" in a Quote to Quantum, that sounds pretty much like an accusation to me.

act like a scammer != be a scammer

But Quantum NEVER acted like a scammer, show me ONE TIME where he did!  Yes Silkcoin did, but Quantum, Wulfcastle and Judgecrypto NEVER did

OK. There is no point in continuing this discussion. If I am wrong, then I am sorry. "Acted like a filthy scammer" was baseless.

But, I would still be glad to know some details about the old team.

Smiley

Sorry I jumped on ya, just had my share of FUD and wanted to try to stop anymore from spilling over to here. It's all good.  As far as details of the old team. The dev "Silkoin" said he had other devs helping me which no one met. "Silkcoin" setup a "dev" portal that the community managers could access but "Silkcoin" was the only one who communicated to them on it.

Everyone got screwed, it appears "silkcoin" actually never did any "real" work and fucked the community.

OK, thanks for the tip. Not sure I want anything to do with the site or the coin until answers are resolved. As you were close to the escape goat, that puts a target on your back as well as wuffy. This is the crux of the matter I think and as a heavy investor, I don't make snap judgement or moves without looking at all the rocks underneath the water and vetting everything.

I have no stake in this fight anymore as I got out of SC just before the dump and will NEVER be coming back. But I did want to come and point out Quantum was the only person with any integrity and maturity and held tru to what was right the whole way, and deserves to be recognized for that if nothing else. Good luck people. See you in other coins!

Who was I close to? I am just a member of the forums and don't have anything to do with the coin. I lost a lot of money right along side everyone else

Quantum was there when I joined and had been already a couple weeks, he was writing articles, fighting FUD, representing SC in the Polo trollbox, etc. Promotions and community outreach was all I ever saw from Quantum, and a willingness to want to help. As far as I know, Quantum was the only guy on the team *without* a very large bankroll of SC. Says a lot about his character, IMO.

First of all, welcome to my SilkCoin rebuilding thread. For those of you that are not aware, SilkCoin - a PoS-only coin which had two separate PoW phases - turned out to be another altcoin grift motivated by greed. While not a victim of this particular con myself, I did take note of the impressive strength of the community surrounding it and could not sit idly by knowing I had the ability to help get this project back on track. This coin has a large, supportive community who thinks big, it is already trading on all of the major altcoin exchanges, and it has manged to achieve wide distribution despite all of the technological and management issues. This thread will be dedicated to ideas and discussion regarding my (potential) management of this first phase of the rebuilding process. I wanted to keep this thread separate from the primary thread to keep the discussion on-point. Sometimes it just makes sense to break threads up into different topics and I believe this is one of them (especially at this point when nothing is official yet).

Here is an overview of my proposed gameplan if I am elected by this community to take on the next phase of this project. There is quite a bit to read but I wanted to cover as much as possible while losing as few of you as possible - this is my idea of the best possible balance. Keep in mind that if you believe better offers are out there, I understand and support the decision of the community - feel free to look into them. As I have mentioned before, my time is limited and I choose the projects I take on very carefully. I would not be willing to accept this challenge if I was not certain enough pieces were in place to make recovery a certainty. This was not a TKO, guys - we get back up, brush ourselves off, and come back bigger and better than ever. I am offering a solution here; I believe it is an excellent solution and will get SilkCoin back to where it should be. There are a number of variables and plans can obviously be tweaked and adjusted but this is some general information on how I would like to proceed:

1. We organize a fundraiser and set a fundraiser goal (a la Kickstarter) based on the amount we determine we need in order to rebuild this coin the right way and turn it into a success. The budget details will be broken down so everybody is on the same page regarding where the funds will go and how they will be handled. If the goal is not met by the set date (we will keep the window brief, 2-3 days maximum, to ensure we move through this process quickly), all contributions will be returned to sender and we will go back to the drawing board, come up with a lower budget plan, and restart the fundraiser with a reduced goal. If we exceed the goal at any time, the entirety of the excess will go toward marketing. Everything will be transparent every step of the way; we need to establish trust and ensure all operations are visible and strict records are kept in regard to the finances. We will maintain a public ledger and if we end up with a surplus at any point we can determine how to use it via community polling. If certain development details/plans/etc have to kept secret for competition reasons, that is obviously understandable; however, anything relating to the finances must be transparent to the maximum reasonable degree. Leveraging an escrow service would likely be the best play here and we should discuss options (I have limited experience with the available escrow services).

2. I will begin development on the new clients right away. The details on the best direction to go here are still being sketched out but I will ensure everybody is happy with the decision. I will guarantee a rock-solid client built using the latest technology and code. This will happen in parallel with the following steps.

3. I will create a new, moderated thread. This thread will be used strictly for nominating the next project leader and putting up a poll allowing the community to vote on it. The project leader does not have to be a developer; we simply need somebody that can communicate with the developers, report news/progress updates/important information, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the coin. This person will be required to meet reasonable expectations and will be compensated for their effort on the on the 1st and 15th of each month (until the funds are depleted, of course - then we hope they stay on board anyway despite the lack of compensation). By spreading out the payments, we ensure nobody will simply take the money and bail on this project. No upfront funds - no exceptions. The contact information of all members of the dev team will need to be provided to me as well as the elected project leader; it does not need to be made public, however, beyond that. This information will be verified to ensure we know who we are working with. Again - think of this like a job.

4. The individual who receives the most votes in the aforementioned poll will now create a new moderated thread to help jump-start our new identity. Hopefully, this will remain the permanent home base of the new SilkCoin community (at least until an official forum is created elsewhere). The current thread is 300+ pages of nonsense, insults, misinformation, accusations, grandstanding, and posts from a developer I have zero respect for. I think everybody would agree it makes no sense to continue posting in this thread once we begin the next steps to revive this project.

5. While we will likely maintain the name "SilkCoin" and the ticker symbol "SC" we will re-brand things with a fresh, professionally designed logo, a fresh website, and a nice clean image far separated from the shady scammers that put you guys in this position. This will all be done in-house by the new development team to keep costs low - despite my high level of development skills, my logo/graphics design skills are average, at best - we will certainly be looking for an individual proficient with graphics to assist. Perhaps we could run a "logo design contest" with a SilkCoin reward to not only choose our new logo... but also to qualify potential new team members. This is open for a discussion, of course. I believe the best way to separate ourselves from the group of con artists that started this thing is to maintain the "SilkCoin" name and ticker symbol. I have been in this game a long time and it will actually be easier to ease concerns and explain the situation, if-needed, if we do not attempt to hide from our past; I truly believe we will be stronger because of it. By removing the dev(s) from the equation that misled and stole from this community we have effectively removed the cancer; some of the greatest accomplishments in this world started out as failures. We are not the team that got us into this rut - that team is gone. We are the team that will take us out of this rut and beyond.

6. I will continue to oversee things and contribute my time to core development and project development as-needed over the following few weeks. At that time, once we have the right people in place to keep things going, I will step aside and hand the keys over to the individual we elected. I will remain available in a consultation capacity and will assist with any technical issues as-needed. I won't completely cut ties with you guys but will not step aside until I have completed what I set out to do and am 100% confident the rest of the team can take it from there. Again, I will still be around - I simply will not be involved in the day-to-day operation of SilkCoin. I am here to clean this thing up, get everything back on its feet, get the right people in place, and start pushing this thing forward until it has some momentum and it heading in the right direction. I wish I had to the time to say I can stay in that position forever but I simply do not at this time. Regardless, I'm not going anywhere - I will certainly provide input and assist as-needed well beyond my initial stint.

Notes/concepts/etc:
The coins you have will remain your coins (or at least you will get the same quantity); the coins specs will remain exactly the same. If, for any reason, we need to create a fresh coin with fresh specifications there would be a 1:1 trade-out, of course. I would see the process through and ensure there are no issues. Hopefully, we will be able to skip that step and stick with the existing blockchain. I will go into more details about the next steps in the development process when it's time to cross that bridge. The new client will be built on the latest Bitcoin Core master source (currently 0.9.2.1) and as-such will contain all of the new features, security updates, and enhancements in the latest code. The Qt clients for Windows (32-bit and 64-bit versions), Mac OSX (64-bit only), and Linux (32-bit and 64-bit) will be released in a timely manner. I will also create the GitHub account and host the source code there publicly. I do not expect any funds before I deliver on this first major hurdle.

Looking forward, I will provide realistic timelines the finish the plans you guys have been misled by the devs on (the eco-system/etc). I will also propose some new ideas or, possible, similar-yet-alternative concepts to what has already been presented in interest of efficiency. We can put together a list of features with estimated timelines and let the community vote on the order the features will be implemented/released. While I likely won't be around to finish the majority of these, I intend to have a good start and get the future devs up-to-speed and ready to go. I also intend to interview everyone personally, via phone if possible, before we "hire" them for anything. Again, payments will be on the 1st and 15th of every month taken out of the funds we raise. If somebody does not fulfill their duties, they do not get paid. Everything remains in escrow or in the control of a trusted senior member(s) on this forum that everybody agrees upon.

We run this like a business and we do this by the book. No shady behavior and no slacking. If somebody isn't pulling their weight they risk losing their position. I want to pump up marketing and SEO efforts - something I am very familiar with and many coins fail at - we need to attract new people to continue building momentum and building this community. It will also be the job of this community to band together again attract new people on this forum by maintaining positive attitudes, providing accurate information, and keeping things on-point. Love it or hate it this forum is a huge part of any coin's marketing. We will need a new Twitter feed which we can make official, a new Reddit page we have control over - if the dev(s) do not turn these items over to use we will need to step up and create them. We need Reddit tip bots, paper wallet generators - all of the stuff that helps get the word out. I intend to get the ball rolling on all of this right away. The purpose of the moderated thread is to keep things on-point. There are many people here who bought SC at a high price and sold at a low price... and it's human nature that some of them will hope this rebirth fails to avoid the mental anguish that comes with buying or selling at the right time; if you guys give me the opportunity to take this thing over I personally guarantee we will not fail. We will come back stronger and more focused; we will have eliminated doubt because this team will be hand-assembled by the community. In the end, the top coins will always be driven by their community. Many development projects need to be community built and maintained. If secrecy is important on certain projects, teams can be assembled and members of the private project can digitally sign non-compete agreements. There should be no point where people are left wondering what is going on.

We can make this happen and I am excited about the potential opportunity to manage the first phases of this rebuilding process; I will ensure you guys are on solid ground and beyond before I step aside and, as I said, will remain available as a consultant as long as needed. I can't promise you this will make everybody multi-millionaires - I can't even promise everybody will make back their losses - those are for the market to decide and it's up to all of us to demonstrate the value we have here. All I can promise is that we have the best possible coin built on the latest technology, a great team hard-picked by the community, and a solid gameplan going forward with a core theme of honesty, transparency, and teamwork. Also, the community needs to bounce back in a big way and get behind this - we need that enthusiasm back. Even if you lost money - buy back a small piece if you can afford to do it - it will help motivate you to get involved. I would never encourage spending money you can't afford to lose but I believe we can set the bar for comebacks here, guys. I have some new ideas not yet mentioned I intend to bring to the table as well. Put me in and we will not fail - we will prevail.

did the old dev give you the 8 BTC yet? first things first!!!  Cool

As far as details of the old team. The dev "Silkoin" said he had other devs helping me which no one met. "Silkcoin" setup a "dev" portal that the community managers could access but "Silkcoin" was the only one who communicated to them on it.

I was brought on the team a few weeks ago to help promote, man the IRC, and act as a community representative for SC. This was the team as I understood it:

"Robert" (believed to be the same person as ShimalH from previous scams, used "Silkcoin" on btctalk and IRC) was the lead dev. He told me he was more of project manager than a coder, he knew a little code but he had a few guys who were heavy C++ devs, and they were the ones doing the heavy lifting. Nobody on our internal team management software ever saw/heard from/spoke to these other devs as far as I know.

Wulfcastle was sortof the 2nd in command, it seemed. He did all the graphics, the GUI design, etc -and sent off his designs to be implemented by Robert and the team. After a bit of my own research and compounded with Judge's information, I personally have come to the conclusion that Wulfcastle is "Duff_Man" from previous scams Coinmart and Numus. The same artwork, font, color palette, framework, etc - all of it is shared between these three projects. The scams are also similar - something that looks really really nice to draw people in, but no substance behind the claims. I personally believe Wulfcastle and Robert are possibly the same person, but short of that, they're almost certainly a team that has worked together before Silkcoin, despite Wulfcastle's claims to the contrary. A bit of investigation on your own and I think you'd agree, something doesn't add up. When I questioned Wulf about my theory, his responses were *exactly* the same as ShimalH and Duff_Man's defenses in the other communities I mentioned. He provided the same reasons for why the art was the same "it's flat-design!", provided the same links to the same icon sets he used, etc. He claims to be someone else, yet just coincidentally uses the same exact art resources and style and uses the exact same defenses, almost verbatim. I'm personally convinced Wulf was part of this scam from the get go.

Judge was also there when I joined, he was running contests, making connections to spread SC, etc. He chose to leave the team at one point shortly after I joined, and didn't go into specifics, but it was around the time the price dropped and I believe this must've been when Judge started suspecting foul things were afoot.

There's another memeber, Rav3n but I honestly never saw this guy in the few weeks I was on the team.

Thanks for sharing this. Any additional information on the original dev team from others that can be succinctly added might help the community sort things out. I would also be cautious about carrying over any of the original devs; perhaps the best approach might be to allow their help/involvement, but not in any position of power or trust (i.e. no keys to the bank vault, as it were.)

Who was I close to? I am just a member of the forums and don't have anything to do with the coin. I lost a lot of money right along side everyone else

Sorry about that (once again got tied up the replies) it was Q that was associated - although seemingly and recently disconnected.

cryptolemaik make some really good points and concur with his assessment.

As seen on Mintpal in many cases, they use bots to manipulate the price. There are cases that the bots don't even leave any room for placing buy/sell orders. Once your order is sent, other orders appear on top of yours within 2 seconds. You remove your orders, they are removed as well. It's ridiculous. All you can do is buy directly from their sell orders or sell directly to their buy orders. It sucks.

I hope all major exchanges make the fees scalable according to the number of orders placed on a daily basis. Soon, trading bots will be all around us. Something needs to be done.

You can trick them, trust me...

Cool

I will read this later but the minute I hear "fundraiser" alarms go off, especially when we have all been raped one way or the other. Tell you what, how about you set up some type of escrow account and then when the coin gets to certain percentages we all kick in a prescribed set amount that is agreed upon by the "community" (not sure how you will register an acting body of community or authority). Thus we ALL have a stake in the game. More to follow...

If the old "dev" has any dignity left he will do the following:

1. donate his "8 BTC" to the new project
2. GTFO. If he is on the new team, everyone will leave
3. Closes the old thread with a link to this thread
4. Invests his personal money into the new Silkcoin

1. Yea that will never happen!
2. He will never be involved with what "bholzer" is doing here nor will he ever be welcome
3. Hopefully he at least does that.
4. Hopefully but who will ever know.

That kid should think about his future. He can do the right thing and return the coin and walk away. These kind of things kind of stick around, especially when they know who you are and where you live. honestly, we are talking hundreds of thousand of dollars potential lost. People are holding waiting to recover. If he does not do the right thing and people lose, it's not going to be a great year I don't think. Just my thoughts on why it would be good for him to take this to heart.

Agreed. I sent 'Silkcoin' a PM saying basically that... "Karma can be a bitch... best to have good karma not bad".
Probably won't make a difference, but at least he knows.

I'm in for 1% of what I have (as long as it's not staking, haha).  Expect it.

2. I will begin development on the new clients right away. The details on the best direction to go here are still being sketched out but I will ensure everybody is happy with the decision. I will guarantee a rock-solid client built using the latest technology and code. This will happen in parallel with the following steps.
This is an excellent first step to show the revival is for real.

My pre-vote is for Quantum.  He was honest and in those 300 pages of bullshit, he was pretty much the only person saying coherent non-emotional things.  If we want someone loyal to rep this coin, there is no one else even close in my mind.

Nope, move on.  For historical and nostalgic purposes the new official thread should have a link to this thread.  Years from now newcomers can look back and read the story of what the O.G.s did to save SilkCoin.  Haha :-)

I say to keep "SilkCoin" but vote to change the ticker to SLK.  Just has a nice look to it and helps to leave "ScamCoin" behind...

This sounds like a good plan but make sure you have checks and balances in place where you can clean house again if shit starts to go awry.  I totally get where you are coming from.  This is pretty much what I get paid to do at work.  Unfuck the situation then go off to the next challenge/disaster.

This was a major concern of mine (being a small-medium sized bagholder) and I will anxiously await the details to be hashed out.  I am currently staking and it appears to be working, will this continue?

We can make this happen and I am excited about the potential opportunity to manage the first phases of this rebuilding process; I will ensure you guys are on solid ground and beyond before I step aside and, as I said, will remain available as a consultant as long as needed. I can't promise you this will make everybody multi-millionaires - I can't even promise everybody will make back their losses - those are for the market to decide and it's up to all of us to demonstrate the value we have here. Very inspiring, sir!  I have coding experience (.Net, C, C++, Embedded, Assembler) and may be interested in joining the team to knock out some smaller tasks.  I am looking at doing some Android and iOS development as well.  I would also require no compensation as the success of this coin would be payment enough.  I would also be down to run other stuff to ease the workload from Quantum (twitter, FB, reddit, whatever).  It's early, I know but I will be ready :-)

I say to keep "SilkCoin" but vote to change the ticker to SLK.  Just has a nice look to it and helps to leave "ScamCoin" behind...

This sounds like a good plan but make sure you have checks and balances in place where you can clean house again if shit starts to go awry.  I totally get where you are coming from.  This is pretty much what I get paid to do at work.  Unfuck the situation then go off to the next challenge/disaster.

Awesome stuff in bold!  Thanks man!
