this never gets old ^^
I use this story when explaining friends how glbse works, who designed it and why every new user moves the prices : )

/me wants to hear more about this...

he was not allowed to enter US and sent back home from the airport.

btw how did you avoid the red font color that usually gets replaced with /me ?

now for your request ... I'm afraid that his (nefario's) request "not to talk about it" is older so all i can tell is the mnml version
io: do you have any credit cards with you or pockets full of money?
ne: no
io: how will you finance your stay in us?
ne: with bitcoin
io: would you prefer coffee or tee with your waiting for a flight home? because you're not entering usa while I'm on duty.

io - immigration officer
ne - nefario

you can search this forum or bitcoin.org.uk/forums for the full story. It was probably July last year, in time for the NY gig by bruce wagner

there I fixed it for you (saving edited post does not replace /me with a bb code for me)

on the other hand more users for the glbse could be good. more users = more control
more control would be better control (entities issuing asset would be controlled better)
better control = less garbage. etc.

Looks like it was accidental.  The "/me" was right next to the closing quote tag, instead of being on a new line.

Awesome!  What will you be speaking about?

Evolutionary money: the Bitcoin ecology

About how, as money bitcoin itself is just an evolutionary step forward, but that one step creates a revolutionary ecosystem around it.

I'll talk a little about what bitcoin allows, and some of the cool projects as a result, GLBSE, bitdrop and SilkRoad.

Do you have to talk about those three projects?

How about Bitcoin-Charity.com or CoinWorker.com for projects that aren't so potentially controversial?

How often do you get the chance to work on a potentially world-changing project?

Yeah these are the coolest projects in bitcoin land, I could talk about namecoin but then I need to get all technical and into the whole issue of ICE seizing domains etc. I've only got 20 mins for the whole thing.

Controversial is great, it grabs peoples attention and makes for interesting presentations. I don't want to bore people. The fact is bitcoin is great because it make many things that were impossible, just difficult.

I agree with Gavin's sentiment, but those are certainly attention grabbers...

Has Bitdrop been developed at all yet?  Or will you just be speaking about it theoretically?

Has Bitdrop been developed at all yet?  Or will you just be speaking about it theoretically?

Development kicks of after GLBSE 2.0 rolls out, all the theory has been worked out along with the business model and we've got the developers. We'll be doing a GLBSE IPO to fund it.

In the talk I'll just be speaking about the theory of it so people get a basic understanding of how it works, and explaining how bitcoin allows a service like this to exist where it couldn't before.

I'm fine in front of a couple of people, I can talk until I'm dizzy, and the same if it's a group of Chinese students. On front of that group my mind just went blank.

Right now I don't think there is a video up, in maybe a day or so.

Why wasn't this subject brought up in this thread? http://www.tedxleeds.com/news/

Quote
INTRODUCING THE LUDOS…

At TEDxLeeds2012 we will be introducing the Ludos, a new currency for Leeds. The Ludos will exist for just the evening of 29th of February and will be legal tender for a special menu at Primos, at the Corn Exchange. One Ludos will be equivalent to one Pound Sterling.

The Ludos was named by The Culture Vultures’ Emma Bearman to imply both playfulness and the city’s ancient name of Leodis. Tom Morgan, then set about designing a unique banknote, celebrating Leeds past and hinting at its imagined future…

It was located on the page I linked to, directly above the bio of NEFARIO (JAMES MCCARTHY).

TED franchises their brand to let people put on TED talks around the globe that have the same mission but are not organized by the core TED team.  I would guess the Leeds TEDx was one of these franchised events.

I was just after getting off the phone with the organisers, the videos will be available on the TED website in about 2 weeks.

He tells me that my talk went ok, guess I'm my own worse critic.

I've got a few notes of the Leeds Ludos, I didn't want to spend them, they look too nice, I'll get a pic of them up later today.

don't be discuraged, you just have to do more talks like this.
99.99% wouldn't ever have come up on the stage to talk for 20 minutes about a controversial and rather complicated topic. by doing this you have manged quite a lot already.

A lot of people have such problems so don't worry, I do too, you can join a Toastmasters club if you have one around in your area, there is 13 000 of them around the world, it really helps with speaking in public/learning to make speeches/improvising, etc.
