My apologies if this is a stupid question or if it has been answered before, but how come there are so many empty blocks with no transactions?

See for example:

http://blockexplorer.com/block/0000000000000310c02bf8178945c443211b197ea150b57d3f4025a6aecc0e17
http://blockexplorer.com/block/00000000000008600ffc4669c5ae91364eeb142d96694dd6cd4452491cc9e3b8

Obviously there have been transactions during those periods, so I don't understand why the blocks are empty?

Thanks!
Roberto

Looks like there is some miner (mining pool) that doesn't include any transactions at all.

That discusses why we allow blocks with no transactions. I think that he is asking why there were no transactions in those blocks when transactions were actually performed during that time.
