football is a giant conspiracy to attract the attention of the stupidest and unfortunately the majority of the population. Crazed by the idiotic ball chasing game, imbecile football fans are unable to notice political events that silently occur in the background.

A large room full of people who turn into howling apes for a ball chasing game is highly disturbing and I don't personally like this public behaviour as it is irritating. It happens in bars and pubs, as if football is supposed to be liked by everyone while it isn't. Not to mention the facebook frenzy for all kinds of football events.

Anyone with even the slightest amount of intelligence should at least be aware of the fact that people pay way too much attention to unimportant things such as football while real important events don't get the attention they deserve.

seriously. athletes get paid millions, sometimes tens of millions a year, the most brilliant scientific minds on earth get like 200k best case scenario. usually more like 70-100k. our soldiers get paid like 35k. priorities...

that's a dumb argument. the way it works now is the way it is meant to be and cannot be any better. just use your brain.

star athletes are marketing gold.  more eyes are on them than a engineer/scientist or soldier. a soldier is on the bottom of the chain in terms of intellectual caliber.  they do not deserve more pay.

Well A soldier does die for his country but at the same time that means you trust your military to be honest and transparent and fighting for the right cause not a geopolitical agenda.

correct. and the executives and marketing heads decide on what direction to take their company based on economic conditions. that gives work for the engineers and scientists.  athletes are just like hollywood starts. their value is their fame. not necessarily their skill-set. and their fame is good for one thing, branding/marketing.

i don't see much in soldiers other than overhead. the heads of military view the foot grunts as disposable. they like to say their sacrifice is for the nations economic glory. but that reality is it's just part of the industrial complex.

there are so many Americans that have no idea what the war in Iraq is about. they have no idea why we've been there for almost 10 years. and despite all of the sacrifices and money spent, what was accomplished? they still lost control of Iraq. rest assured it is about the oil.

the thing i find funny is that these foot grunts sacrifice themselves for a fossil fuel we burn in our engines that they ultimately become.  in a way we burn ourselves in hell through our actions. make sense?  we burn the men and women that roamed this palnet many years ago  in our engines ever single day. It's not a matter of intelligence at all. Not every moment of everyone's time should be spent worrying about serious political issues. If it weren't okay to just enjoy something fun for the sake of enjoying it now and then (like soccer) the world would suck. And just as a counter-example to your intelligence argument (and I don't mean to be cocky or anything), I think I am a pretty smart person and I love soccer, as well as many other sports. I consistently rank above average on IQ tests, I went to a very good college, and I have a solid understanding of many areas of computer science, including a lot of complicated and useful artificial intelligence algorithms/computational models. And I love soccer. And football. and Hockey. I also know a lot of absolutely brilliant people who are huge sports fans as well.

The soccer players making millions constitute the top like 0.0001% (obviously the figure is estimated, but you get the point) soccer players in the world. The equivalent top scientists make a ton of money as well - particularly if you look at the VERY top. Lionel Messi is the best soccer player in the world and makes just under $22 million per year. Bill Gates is one of the most brilliant software engineers in the world and could buy Messi 100 times without even noticing a dent in his wallet. The very best athletes make in the 10s of millions. The very best scientists and software engineers start their own companies and make at least that much, and often way more. And lower level athletes make MUCH less than even average white-collar workers.

That being said, I still do agree that athletes get paid too much.

Yes, only the top of players get paid huge sums, i remember the tennis players competing in the challenger series, when they are out on first round they spend more in hotel and food than what they receive as prize.
