Ukraine as well as Moldova and Georgia have signed free trade deals with the EU, stepping away from Russia even though big economic risks lie ahead.

The signing of the agreement comes after 8 months of violent unrest in Ukraine, which broke out in Kiev and spread across the country in November after then-President Viktor Yanukovich decided to delay the singing of the trade agreement.

No longer Russia’s preferential trade partner, Ukraine stands to lose $500 billion as it cuts ties with Russia. However, the new government filled with hope about the prospect of duty-free trade with Europe’s $17 trillion economy.

Yippie! Life will immediately get better in Ukraine and Europe will see an influx of high-demand Ukrainian goods. Or maybe, not.

In 2013, EU exports to Ukraine were worth $33 billion (23.9 billion euro), dominated by industrial equipment, chemicals, and manufactured goods.

Ukraine exported 13.8 billion euro worth of goods to the EU, mostly materials like iron, steel, and minerals. Agricultural and food products are also substantial exports.

Iron, steel, minerals are in Novorossia.
Agricultural and food products were grown in the fertile black earth of Novorossia, now "fertilised" by phosphorus bombs.
So, EU will not be importing anything, but Ukraine can expect to be flushed with excess goods from Europe.

After signing of the association agreement, during the press conference, Poroshenko said that the agreement assumes Ukraine becoming an EU member, something that was not mentioned in the agreement.

Later, his press-service mentioned two point as if they were present in the agreement, when they are not.

EU is not informed about those points that it presumably agreed to.

Also, Ukraine is having a huge population (46 million, which can result in a migrant population of 5 million to 15 million). Even the Bulgarians (population of 7 million) faced so much travel restrictions in the EU, despite Bulgaria being an EU member state. Even if Ukraine becomes the EU member, major countries such as Spain, UK, France, Germany and Italy will impose travel restrictions on them for at least 20 years. Only the shitty nations, such as Sweden and Poland will be welcoming the Ukrainian immigrants.

Not to the Ukrainians who move west.  You make more money as a construction labourer in London than working as a doctor in Ukraine.  There's also far more worker rights in western Europe than in the east.


Though moving to a cesspool like London is equivalent to selling your soul for money.  It's not the 1980s communism anymore, most of Eastern Europe now has contemporary cities with technology and it has a better community than the west.  It's just the wages which suck and/or finding a job.  Otherwise if you have a job it's often a good thing.

Greece and those other countries were not made poor by EU.  They had debt crisis going back decades and then adopting the EU meant they couldn't print themselves out of debt.   Would you rather have high unemployment or hyperinflation?  The latter would be more harmful for small economies than say Weimar Germany which was capable of producing its' own consumer goods.

Plus we've known what the traditional strategy was.  The Greeks were probably counting on America, Australia and Canada to accept a million of their unemployed, except to find nobody wants the poor Greeks when you can instead have multi-millionaires from Arabia, China and India.

Romania was made poor by the damn communist regime and in the following 11 years when an ex kgb trained officer was elected through fraud as president.

Things have improved so much during the last years only an idiot would deny it.

It is our own fault that things are not like in the rest of the EU. It's the corruption and our politicians fault for this , we are to blame for it.
