Southwest Airlines Now Totally Cool With Customers Kicking Muslims Off Flights
In response to a recent incident of racial profiling, Southwest seems to endorse prejudice.
By Adam Johnson / AlterNet
November 21, 2015

In two separate incidents this week, Southwest Airlines has kicked Arabic-speaking passengers off their flights following customer complaints. The airline doesn't seem to understand this is something corporations should not do in 2015.
Shop ▾

In one case, business owners Maher Khalil and Anas Ayyad were asked to step aside because fellow passengers were, according to NBC 10 Philadelphia, "afraid to fly with them." Eventually, the boarding agent told the two men they could not get on the flight because other passengers overheard them speaking Arabic.

"If that person doesn't feel safe, let them take the bus," Khalil said to a Southwest Airlines gate agent, according to NBC 10. "We're American citizens just like everybody else."

As Gawker's Melissa Cronin notes, this effectively deputizes bigots to eject whomever they want, a trend Southwest should put a stop to unless it wants to become the official airline for the country’s bigots.

What makes matters worse is how the $6.7 billion company responded, with the following, tone-deaf statement:

Safety is our primary focus, and our Employees are trained to make decisions to ensure that safety, and to safeguard the security of our Crews and Customers on every flight.

What exactly was the safety risk here? Paranoid bigots demanding other passengers be removed from a flight is not the same thing as increasing safety.

Will Southwest Airlines address these incidents responsibly, or will it continue to let racist morons determine safety policy for everyone else?

UPDATE: Southwest airlines has returned Gawker's request for comment. These responses are published below:

Southwest Airlines sent Gawker the following statement. It did not address the second flight, nor answer a question regarding whether incidents like this will happen in the future.

We had a slight delay boarding, lasting only a few minutes, while we completed a brief passenger conversation. All customers were boarded and traveled on to their scheduled destination, Philadelphia. Southwest Employees welcome hundreds of millions of Customers onboard annually. We are responsible for the comfort of all passengers and do not tolerate discrimination of any kind.

Update 4:41 p.m.

Southwest has issued a second statement, addressing the flight that the six Muslim passengers were not allowed to board.

On Wednesday, Southwest Flight #126 from Chicago (Midway) to Houston (Hobby) was delayed departing the gate after several passengers refused to follow Crew instructions. Reports indicate that the situation involved seating arrangements and repeated attempts from those passengers involved to save seats and rearrange other passengers onboard the aircraft. Our crews were unable to resolve the situation without delaying the flight so we rebooked the customers on a later flight that same day.

de·moc·ra·cy - /dəˈmäkrəsē/
noun
a system of government by the whole population...etc

Nowadays the right definition is:
a system of government by a few members of the population. /in this case i don't like to be with you in the same plane so step aside! Crazy world!

After all why should we blame them if the police (not all...tho) killed a black kid armed with a toy? And many others...
Freedom... Liberty... Democracy... I see only names, their meaning is removed thanks to NATIONAL SECURITY.

i wouldn't want to fly with potential terrorists

Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

They are looking at it from a business perspective. Lose the many passengers who didn't want to fly with them or just lose a couple. They chose the route that makes them more money as well as brings them media attention. It sucks for the arabic speaking folks but they are vastly outnumbered when it comes to those who pay for plane tickets and sadly corporations want money.

Thank Goodness that America is a republic and not a democracy. From http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/republic?s=t:
Quote

republic
[ri-puhb-lik]

noun
1. a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them.
2. any body of persons viewed as a commonwealth.
3. a state in which the head of government is not a monarch or other hereditary head of state.

...

Note, the Pledge of Allegiance says "... and to the republic for which it stands, ... ." Note that the "representatives" chosen by the people are professionals so that the people can be protected from their own stupidity. Note, also, that if the people desire it, this form of government can be abolished by the people.

The power of the people rests in representatives for whom they vote.

Airlines and other big companies are "citizens" of the government, because they are subsidized by the government. Until the government rules them wrong in the things they are doing, they are right in what they are doing. If you don't like it, fly elsewhere.

Since government doesn't allow discrimination based on religion, the airlines need to find some other way to protect themselves (and us) from Islam. This is the way they do it.

Why do we need protection from Islam? Because the theme of Islam is this: Conquer the world by force rather than freedom.

How is this shown and perpetrated? The basic, foundational writings of Islam - the Quran and Hadiths - essentially tell their people to be peaceful to all peaceful people of other religions for a time. Try to get these other peoples to convert to Islam. If they don't convert after a time of peace, kill the infidels.

Since Islam is also a government, it promotes anti-American government activities.

Islam should be rooted out of America based on the fact that it is a government rather than based on that it is protected as a religion.

Look at the story of Malcolm X. He was Muslim, but when he turned against the violence perpetrated by his religion, he was executed by it.

Do you want peace? You won't find it in Islam. Nip it in the bud. Actually, it is too late for that because of the roots it has in America already. Rather, cut down the Islamic tree in America, and dig up its roots and burn them. Otherwise you will have to prepare for war from within. Islam is an Anti-American government.

RACIAL PROFILING?  What and where is the race?

Exactly! Rather, it is an attempt at religious profiling. And in this case it is good, because the religion is Islam, and Islam is not only a religion, but it is also an anti-American government.

I disagree with that, but still wonder...

Should the proponent of political correctness, sincere though he may be, be allowed to dictate policy of Southwest Airlines?

Should he be allowed to dictate that I must sit next to someone whom I don't want to sit next to?

Should he be allowed to dictate that large numbers of fake Syrians be allowed into my country?

On and on and on.

Or should he be told "Thank you very kindly for your view, now SHUT THE FUCK UP?"

That's kind of what I'm wondering.

Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong.

The answer has to do with the idea of private property. To what extent are the airlines to be considered property of the government because they receive funds from the government to help them survive? "So, if you want to keep on getting our money, you do what we say."

Islamic peoples might overrun the government and the military sometime, physically, if there are enough of them. But until they do, these people need to obey the law just like everyone else. The basics of all American law lie in the protection of private property of Americans for those same Americans, individually, no matter who they may be. This means that even government people cannot disrupt private property if the people don't let them.

Here is a great point. American government people have obeyed the law reasonably well in the past. The people have become lax with regard to the government. Now that government people are often acting unlawfully towards American people and their property, the people are starting to wake up. They are re-finding out about how they can stop the unlawful activities of the government. And they are making it happen.

The process isn't easy... learning the legal and lawful ways to stop unlawful government people. It will be especially hard for Islamic peoples who don't even have the American common law concepts required.

Any passenger who is uncomfortable and in fear for their life no matter if they are right or wrong have the human right to inform the flight crew. Out of respect for their customers the flight crew must secure the safety of all passengers physically and emotionally.

This is not racist at all. This is a result of the fear that has been instilled in the general population by decades of MUSLIM terrorists blowing up planes, killing infidels, suicide bombing crowded places, beheading people, etc. Instead of making an ignorant statement like, "If that person doesn't feel safe, let them take the bus" perhaps these Arabic speakers should denounce the atrocities their Muslim brothers and sisters have been committing against the world. And if they, as they say, are American citizens, then why not speak English on a flight within the United States? It seems it is so much easier to throw out words like "racist" and "inbred morons" instead of stating the obvious like "we have a worldwide problem called 'Islamic terrorism' which needs to be addressed.

MUSLIM terrorists blowing up planes, killing infidels, suicide bombing crowded places, beheading people, etc.

If You will see closer, the main victims of salafi terrorists are arabs.
Other that, arabs are a non muslim group too, for example Syrian National=Socialist Party military groups, that fight US created ISIS in Syria.
But Boston terrorists speak no arab language, they come from loved by USA "Putin Dictatorship Opposition".

I can see how someone might not want to sit next to a Muslim, but then the Muslim talks with him and changes his mind.

By the same token, I know some muslims would refuse to denounce ISIS or suicide bombers.
