Since satoshi has been confirmed to be not coming back, the bitcoin community now have to fend for ourselves.

I propose we make a bitcoin holiday in honor of our legendary anonymous founder and to observe the fact that the bitcoin community will be just fine after the inventor of bitcoin left.

Even if Gavin is hit by the bus tomorrow, we can live.

Well, I'm almost sure he only changed his identity and he is still around, watching what happen and discussing major issues with Gavin. He started great project which started to be self-sufficient and now he can be satisfied by looking on us, incognito Smiley.

The mystique of Satoshi thing is good for the bitcoin, within 12 months we'll see the question growing in the media "Who is Satoshi?"

I can picture a silhouette with a question-mark where the face should be on the cover of TIME magazine.

Hes been working on bitcoin for years now.  Once you've been working on a project for that long you get tired.  I highly doubt he he active.  He still responds to emails with questions about his original design but he doesn't mess with the code or make suggestions/comments anymore.

I'm not buying it.  If there's something more awesome than bitcoin on the horizon, the world isn't yet ready for it (cypherpunks were waiting on bitcoin for a decade).

Are there any equally exciting potential and practical applications of crypto in the near term (which excludes anything quantum)?  Maybe something to do with fully homomorphic crypto?

If you enter "find chuck norris" in google, you end up here:

http://www.nochucknorris.com/

There should be a site called www.satoshicannotbefound.com, so when you google "Find Satoshi" you get the result:

Satoshi cannot be found.

Let return to the bitcoin holiday question:

Do you think we should celebrate a special occasion for the disappearance of satoshi from our world?

Yes. We can start some traditions meant to bring Satoshi back, and create prophecies regarding his reappearance.

Some ideas for traditions...

Burning fiat currency
Sending encrypted messages

 Cheesy That's totally irrational.
The man created best thing since sliced bread, devoted a lot of time to it and you are proposing to celebrate his disappearance as a special occasion?

That's the same as christians wearing crosses around their necks - makes no sense. Do you think Jesus is gonna want to see a cross when he comes back?(Bill Hicks' wisdom)

Do we have a birthday date for Satoshi? Even if later we find out it is incorrect, celebrating his birth at least once a year would be nice...

Perhaps a good tradition for the celebration would be to give gifts bought with Bitcoin what do you think?

we could just celebrate bitcoin on the anniversary of the genesis block

.... in honour of satoshi and reminder not to fall for the banksters slimy lies again

I propose

January 3rd to be Genesis Block Celebration Day

Though I still think there should be a Satoshi Disappearance Day as well. After all, that was the day the project was proven to be self-sustaining. Satoshi planted the seed and watered it. Day by day it grew into a tree, so to speak, and no longer needed watering.

Satoshi stopped posting on December 13, 2010, 04:45:41 PM

I think Satoshi created a new Account. The creator of something is Compelled to see it's progress. Satoshi Made a new account to watch his project without interrupting.

If you're not going to "interrupt", why create an account? You can browse the forum without an account.

p2pfoundation.ning.com. It is the site where the Bitcoin was first introduced by Satoshi.
Nakamoto said to have handed over the reins of the development of the source code to Gavin Andresen. At the same time, he also handed domain management Bitcoin.org and some other domains to the Bitcoin community. After that Nakamoto as lost in the earth.

Nakamoto was said to have had one million Bitcoin. In December 2013 the last, the value of the equivalent of US $ 1 billion.

Well slush makes an interesting point: Do you think some of the people involved in Bitcoin for a very very long time and active as a core developer still have contact to Satoshi? Maybe they just keep contact and talk about casual things... I think Satoshi didn't want to influence Bitcoin anymore!

Considering all the people asking this question are obviously noobs, think about it, if you discovered a highly advanced piece of alien technology that could dramatically change the standard of living for the whole planet what would you do? I'm talking on the level of technology that would involve long distance space flight and electricity generation.

If Satoshi came forward he would have everyone from news journalists to the government to the fucking mafia coming after him, this is exactly the way to introduce such a technology and cryptocurrencies are in fact something brand new. Now that everything has spread out and most programmers know exactly how it's all put together and anyone can make it themselves there is no benefit from trying to monopolise this technology since everyone knows how to make it anyway. This means there is a lot less risk posed to him now and even if they did find the guy it wouldn't amount to anything since everything he knew was posted online for all to see.

That's the kind of level you have to think of this on.

Are you joking? Satoshi might be back. Imagine, there is a person that already admit he was Satoshi Nakamoto. Craig who is presenting that he made the whitepaper of bitcoin is the person behind this, they said. But for me, it is still unknown until someone can destroy and rebuild bitcoin again.

Well, I'm almost sure he only changed his identity and he is still around, watching what happen and discussing major issues with Gavin. He started great project which started to be self-sufficient and now he can be satisfied by looking on us, incognito Smiley.

I agree, maybe he just don’t want public attention like most people do, he wanted his privacy more that anything else that is why he is not coming out but I believe he is just looking, observing what is happening with bitcoin. Also I guess it doesn’t really matter if he will go on public because bitcoin has been doing great for many years now without him around and if incase he will come out I don’t believe it will have an affect on the price either.

Totally agreed about that, There is no need for Satoshi Nakamoto to be known who is he in real life we just need to be thankful to him that he introduced us to a revolutionary system that is already changing the world, kudos to the legendary Satoshi Nakamoto.

So what's the official day?

Almost four years later and it hasn't been implemented.
And now its been 8 years and still not implemented lol. Cheesy And the one who started the thread also disappeared too, no more holiday now lol.

He's a human being or they are a human being in case they are a group of people, he might change his mind and do the unthinkable by coming back to us, so let's not have that  Satoshi Disappear Day, his legacy is on us and doing great, he is still with us.

Just one of the many ideas that failed to make a good traction. We already have the Pizza Day celebrated everywhere but I don't think there is any good interest for another we should celebrate. But what about a Satoshi Day instead...a day where we remember and celebrate the life of a man who brought to us bitcoin and the blockchain technology? Rather than ponder on why he left...maybe we should celebrate on the things that he left as a gift.
